Konami apologizes for Metal Gear Online problems, has no solution yet

Konami, however, has "no permanent solutions we can announce at this present moment" in regards to the technical snafus the game has run into. They are working on it, and plan to resolve the issues in the quickest amount of time possible. So, if you're having troubles, don't worry. A patch will come, but no date is set.

All I can say is, next pack that comes out, I'm going to be parked in front of the computer, ready to hit the "buy" button, at the very minute it's released.
Being an hour late, the technical snafus piled up and ended waiting until 7 p.m. the next day until the purchase finally went through. Barely.

What are you guys even talking about? The game itself is not experiencing any problems. The problem is their online shops which let you purchase content, etc. are getting slammed due to various reasons. So, no "patch" is going to fix anything that's wrong. Unless you figure they are going to patch the web site. The story as written is very suggestive that people just can't play the game at all. I'm... logged in right now.
Hiruke @ Jul 21st 2008 11:28PM
I guess I should say "activate" content, since anything you buy on there... you've already downloaded via the version update. That is, GENE EXPANSION is part of the current version, 1.10. I've had that since the day it came out, and could play np. Activating the expansion via their store... totally different story.
Happy_man @ Jul 21st 2008 11:26PM
If they would only use the PSN like everyone else, they would not have these types of problems. Seriously, it's there for a reason.
And you would have thought they would have fix their online problems by now.

Ive been fine i bought mine when my ip was allowed in and have had no problems since
Radewagon @ Jul 21st 2008 11:44PM
I know how to fix it. Use the PSN! Stupid stupid Konami, just admit you were wrong and ditch your current course of action.
JAH75157 @ Jul 21st 2008 11:45PM
lol
stupid konami

I agree. Konami should of used PSN and made MGO as a standalone downloadable game that would of been free with a code to those that bought MGS4 and those that didn't would of had to pay for it.

I had problems but today I was able to download the Gene expansion and play without a problem.
The problem is that their servers are not capable of sustaining the large amount of people that tried to access the site to download the expansion. They are working to fix that, but in the meantime you can play online. There doesn't seem yo be a problem on that front.
e.Missark @ Jul 22nd 2008 12:50AM
You can play MGO.
Its the online shop that has problems. Don't confuse the 2.
jusama14 @ Jul 22nd 2008 1:47AM
"not expecting the game to get such overwhelming traffic on a regular basis"
Didn't they learn from the beta?
Ian @ Jul 22nd 2008 2:30AM
Have Konami apologized yet for PES 2008 on-line?
Anyone else spotting a pattern here? Konami + on-line games = gawd-awful mess!
Alex @ Jul 22nd 2008 9:17AM
That is what you get from a free service. Poor performance and very slow reaction times to fixing problems. I would rather pay $4.99 a month for a service that never is "surprised" with all the traffic and works like smoothly.
T-P-M @ Jul 22nd 2008 10:15AM
LOL what like XBL? Which NEVER has problems... [/sarcasm]
wisconsinista @ Jul 22nd 2008 11:12AM
You mouthbreather contain your dumbness: THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PSN -IN FACT THAT IS LIKELY THE ISSUE.
Back to your bridge.
e.Missark @ Jul 22nd 2008 12:42PM
I can't spare $5 a month why with the gas prices these days. That's a whole gallon. No no. Not going to happen.
BorgDroNeZ @ Jul 22nd 2008 12:09PM
This is why every other Dev uses PSN, because Sony is better equipped to handle the network traffic.
MGO has been a bad joke from the beginning. From creating the stupid Konami account to lack of character customization options post-creation, to the bs skill ranking system, to the joke point system that deducts points if you are killed.
They need to turn MGO over to someone who knows how to make online games fun, simple to use, and simply someone who knows what they are doing.
aMIGA_dUDE @ Jul 22nd 2008 1:15PM
First MGO uses PSN and it has no choice, if PS3 loss connection to PSN you will not be able to pay MGO or any other game.
MGO problems are not down to PSN, but the dumb and pointless Konami ID/Shop. Which you also have to use there pointless and stupid duplication of what PSN already do. Konami are NOT up to job.
Now the strange thing EA doesn't even want to run there own ID service. EA has a history of sticking to there guns when come online issues. EA wouldn't allow games to go online on XBox until Microsoft allowed them to run own game servers. At time games on PS2 where online but not XBox until Microsoft allowed EA run there own servers.
Konami just release an update for MGO without using Konami ID and only used PSN. Simple, let Konami ID and forget about you ego's Konami as not up to the job.
kentuckyfried @ Jul 22nd 2008 6:00PM
I wouldn't even say it's so much about ego, but more about money. They don't want to share with Sony and are trying to run their own course for maximum profit.
I think they're better off throwing in the towel and just run all sales transactions and updates through the PSN. IF they have no solution at this point for their problems (which they've already admitted). I mean, this is a retail product, it isn't supposed to be having major issues like this one at this point.
(Then again, COD4 had its ups and down with ppl trying to download the map pack and all off of the PSN/XBL, but it didn't seem nearly as bad as Konami's problems).
hedpe @ Jul 22nd 2008 6:25PM
overcharged is quite ironic.
