Ad: PSP makes being arrested so much more fun
We love the construction of this ad for the PSP created by TBWA Espana, Madrid, Spain. Two police offers are apprehending this young man, and instead of handcuffs, they use the ever-engrossing PSP. It's a subtle ad that may not sell the system's capabilities, but does a great job of emphasizing how cool the device is.

And yet this is exactly whats wrong with the Ad agency. Where is the selling of the cool things the PSP can do - oh he's he's looking at it!!!!
Fucking rubbish - show crisis core, GOW, Echochrome etcl game footage.
Show it playing movies
Listen to it play tunes
show it surfing the net
Show it looking at pictures
and stop with the "cool" ads that Show Zero capability

agreed.
Except for the surfing the net bit.
Tis a tad embarrassing for the ol' PSP.

I think that's actually really clever. It's subtle and, as the article states, focuses on how cool it is to use.
I'm sure the 12 year olds will smatter this article with "lame" or "ghey" other wonderfully original quips, but oh well.

I agree, very clever ad.

HAY! I'm 12 and i thought that was pretty funny too. Don't make those kinds of stereo types.

Maybe if we could see that he is actually playing a game ... still pretty good add :)

Why we dont see kids in these advertments? Its always mature people.
On the atari or nes or super nes era videogames marketing had kids on their target, now are adults?

The ad doesn't have to show any games or movies on it to send a message; The guy is caught by the police and is pushed against the pole with his arms around it, but instead of handcuffs, the police places a PSP in his hands, and the PSP is so fun to play, that it'll keep him distracted for a very long time (until the police takes him away or until it runs out of batteries :p)
Great advertisement!

Because adults buy (and play) more games than kids. It makes sense.

A few reasons -
- Gamers are an older demographic than they were back in the old school days
- Older gamers don't want people to think their habit is just for kids
- Older people have more money to throw around
- Kids want to be part of things adults do

I would also say that they are targeting the same generation with adds that are more in line with their current age.
Lets face it all of us gamers from the mid 80's are in our mid 20's early 30's

Nintendo ran an advert for the Game Boy Advance SP with a guy lying in bed, playing his Game Boy, and a girl sleeping next to him.
It didn't show off the games (and there's no shortage of great games), it just had one line "The second best thing to do in the dark."

If I would have known that the PSP did all of the things it does, I would have bought one a long time ago and not have wasted money of crappy ipods that don't work and lose there charge before I even finish watching one movie.
