Have another look at Killzone 2's multiplayer mode
You can't really see it in our tiny screenshot above (you'll have to check out the high res version here), but this screenshot details one's personal dossier for the online mode of Killzone 2. It's looking like quite a comprehensive list as you can check out the ribbons and medals you've earned, your attained military rank, and your badge usage in addition to the traditional leaderboard rankings and total games played.
It's all really just stuff we've discussed before in our hands-on with the multiplayer mode. So, you'll probably want to read that again perhaps, but this time with the extra visual aids. To see more shots of the multiplayer mode, click here.

No co-op/split-screen.
Enough said.
Anton Chigurh @ Jul 23rd 2008 10:52PM
That didn't stop COD4
Vincent @ Jul 24th 2008 9:54AM
Well, it surely stopped ME from picking CoD4.
Niko_Bellic @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:27PM
I wasn't aware there was no splitscreen... might wanna check into that. The first KZ had splitscreen AND bots, so I hope KZ2 does as well. I don't think a Co-op mode has been revealed, but I wouldn't count it out.
xValentine @ Jul 24th 2008 1:50PM
Well that didn't stop 10 million people who bought the game.
Don't you think that there's something wrong with you other than the game ?
Vincent @ Jul 25th 2008 7:46AM
Not really. There's a lot more people with Wii than there are with PS3s. Is there anything wrong with us, PS3fanboys?
That logic doesn't work. It's simply a matter of preference. I could careless what the other people think.
What I'm saying is: there's no reason for a developer at this point in time not include co-op splitscreen options in his game. Specially in a genre like this.
It was co-op that sealed the deal for me in RFOM, and they are doing it again with R2. Why can't KZ2 follow those steps?
Wrathbringer @ Jul 23rd 2008 10:45PM
Wow, that's a ridiculous amount of information on there. Man, so far Killzone is showing an EXTREMELY robust multiplayer component, with tons of online and offline support. Let's hope Gorilla keeps this going.
(I just noticed it says that the current player has been online for over a year, LOL)
Game_playa @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:07PM
I can't see how he played for a fracking year and 20 days.......
kevin @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:09PM
GUERRILA not gorilla LOL
Averna @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:22PM
I couldnt have been bothered with Killzone 2. Was way over-hyped, wasnt ever going to be a console mover and it took waaay to long to come out...
and then... I saw the E3 footage and the multiplayer looks insanely well put together. I would need to see if the lobbies are regionalised because thats what is killing multiplayer games for me.
Killzone2 is now on my must buy list.
Wrathbringer @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:53PM
LOL, my bad on the Gorilla :P.
@ Averna: AFAIK the servers will be global, though I can't remember where I read that.

Did anyone see “PSP NAME” in the top right hand corner

6 total screens
uh-oh polio @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:35PM
On the 5th link, the levels look fucking HUGE
Anton Chigurh @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:42PM
Ha! I never even noticed that.
There's (supposedly) going to be 8 maps at launch, but if they're that expansive....I'm not complaining.
Vincent @ Jul 23rd 2008 10:51PM
But no co-op/splitscreen.
Mein Bratwurst @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:00PM
I have to admit, I was (and still am a little) skeptical about KZ2 after buying and playing KZ a lot. I thought the game was decent at best but there was some potential. The game felt very rushed and I thought to myself "Man, how awesome would this game have been had they spent more time on it". Now it seems KZ2 is reaching that potential and is shaping up to be an epic experience.
Twinturbo120 @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:18PM
thats SEX
e.Missark @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:19PM
This game is looking so...RAW! I love all these little details.
frankym @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:21PM
This game is looking pretty stunning!
NotoriousB-O-B @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:40PM
Can't wait to kill.. erm meet you all out there
mezzanine @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:42PM
Character customization? Character Customization? CHARACTER CUSTOMAICACX SDXDG????
Dwag @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:54PM
Pretty much gonna be fun online.
Joe @ Jul 24th 2008 12:19AM
I feel the same way some other poster feel like. Why would Guerrilla take out split-screen and co-op. Not every one plays online. Plus no bots too sucks. Also you should check out the Playstation forums man almost every post is why is guerrilla taking out Split-screen and Co-op. Like some posters have said over at those forums why can't Guerrilla have those features and Insomniac can have them in Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 comes out after R2. So I can't but wonder why GG would take a feature people want in the game.
I really hope GG comes around because the game looks great and you know people that will review the game will give it a bad review if GG takes those features out.
Volomon @ Jul 24th 2008 3:37AM
Most likely they are taking them out to put more focus on multiplayer, not everyone plays in large multiplayer matches but this game is no longer focused on co-op play. Simple as that really.
Its probably R2 that was the reason, they probably don't want to directly compete with R2's features. Since R2 is a third party developer they want to give them all the respect and earning potential possible.
Joe @ Jul 24th 2008 11:07AM
Volomon I still see no reason you can't have these features added. There were in the first Killzone game. Plus in the PSP version too. Also for me who likes to play offline with just my friends having these features taken out does not help me at all. All it does is make me buying KZ2 harder of a buy and I want the game but just for single player does not seem worth it.
Vincent @ Jul 25th 2008 7:54AM
Exactly man. Co-op doesn't make it a competition against Resistance. Wtf. It's not like Resistance invented co-op. They already postponed the release date not to compete with R2, so lack of co-op has nothing to do with it.
Jake @ Jul 24th 2008 12:26AM
Looks kinda complicated lol
MCHEVA @ Jul 24th 2008 2:35AM
Bloody team killers.
Volomon @ Jul 24th 2008 3:00AM
Haha this guy has a better K:D ratio against his freaking own teammates. That has to suck.
Brucie B @ Jul 24th 2008 7:37AM
Ahhhh Yea... That was it.
proSimian @ Jul 24th 2008 9:45AM
im pretty sure they said no on the character customization. i forgot which video but you can find it on gametrailers. they said it would be similar to CoD4 and your appearance will change based on your class/badge w/e. what i want to know is if your faction (ISA or Helghast) is chosen based off matchmaking and teams or if you choose your faction permanently.
chris.westermann @ Jul 24th 2008 2:38PM
Is it just me, or is Killzone 2 turning out to be a COD4 clone? I mean, the last E3 trailler really didn't impress me as the evironments keep getting stipped down and more boring, and there doesn't appear to be any artistic flair compared to games like Resident Evil 5 or Fallout 3. Killzone 2 is shaping up to be another derivative FPS from last generation and not a next generation game, for all the time it took to produce. There just isn't any pizzaz in this game.
At least I hope this isn't the case as we haven't really seen any cinematic trailers showcasing a story (except for the original dropship openning), only random in-game sequences.
Bottom line is I was hoping this would be a Gears of War 2 killer, but I doubt it. Resistance 2 looks to be the best FPS for the PS3 when it is released, and it was developed in far less time then Killzone 2 and is looking better day by day.
I think Killzone 2 will fall under the knife as a game that was overhyped way too early, came out with the rediculous pre-rendered "in-game" sequence and is now living up to expecations it cannot meet. Lets hope this isn't the case, but I am setting my expecations very low for this game as I am getting tired of an increasing trend of constant dissapointment with PS3 game releases.
MexicanTerrorist @ Jul 24th 2008 3:14PM
If you got to choose your permanent faction, no one would play as ISA. Helghast FTW!
But I still hope you get to pick a side. I don't want to play as the ISA nubs.
