Watchmen becomes two-part episodic PSN game
Any graphic novel nerd will hold a special place for Alan Moore's Watchmen. In addition to the upcoming movie (trailer, above), there will be a coinciding licensed game. Watchmen will be released as a two-part episodic title on XBLA, PSN and PC. The first part will release in tandem with the theatrical release, while the second will release in time for the DVD/Blu-ray release. This should, hopefully, give developers more time to work on a quality title.
"We don't want a low-quality console game that will get lost at retail," said WBIE senior veep of production and development Samantha Ryan. "A downloadable game allows us to deliver the experience that fans expect." The Watchmen games are expected to be rated M.

Sweet jeebus I hope that they do this right. Watchmen is one of the BEST graphic novels in existence. It needs to be treated w/ respect and care.

HATE THE COMMENTING SYSTEM!!!!

I can't see what the games could be about, other than stuff that happens before the comics. :P

Yeah, Watchmen the video game? Um, not sure that works, but ok. Let me see what you got WB. I have my doubts.

So, a downloadable title will let them put out a low-quality game that WON'T get lost at retail? If the game is good, it'll sell. Seems to be they just don't have enough confidence in the game to justify the risk associated with selling at retail. If it fails on PSN, it costs a lot less since they don't have a physical product that has to be discounted to clear out inventory.

I love how they're taking a different route with this. Rather than us having to spend 60 dollars on a failed liscence title we get to try out the first half while they work on the second half. Maybe the complaints will be fixed in time for the second half to polish up the game.
If they do this right it could have a HUGE ripple effect on how movie games are done if properly executed and widely accepted... or it could just cause people to risk more money on movie games and we'll just see more of the usually crap fest *cough Iron Man *cough. Why am I coughing? Shit I'll say it loud and clear IRON MAN SUCKED!
So... cheers everyone hopefully this means companies might start taking liscences seriously so that we don't continually have to endure stuff such as DC Vrs Mortal Kombat or wtf ever they're trying to whore money off of.

FTW scene with Dr. Manhattan singlehandedly winning the Vietnam war. Tsshh, take that Rambo.

Yeah, don't think I'll be jumping on the Watchmen video game train. I'll buy me a Rorschach action figure and call that it.

This movie is going to be a failure. No, not at the box office. The idiots ate up 300 when that came out in a similar timeframe from the same director.
Its going to be a failure to the epic Graphic Novel/Comic that can't be matched by such a crap director. Honestly Zack Snyder needs to leave this stuff alone, go butcher your own stories if you're inventive enough to have any.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
I love the idea of a Watchmen game, however a story of this caliber would need the right genre in order to work correctly. A Watchmen RPG would be choice, but I don't think that's going to happen. Probably an action adventure, or I've been hearing a fighting game possibly. I unfortunately think whatever is done is going to be butchered though. I really, really hope I'm mistaken...

How could they not butcher a story like this? I agree, this would be best as an RPG, that way you can use the strongest story elements. My guess, though? A platformer/hackNslash along the lines of Marvel Alliance.

This article is unclear. At first I thought it said that the MOVIE would be downloadable, at least part 1, on the day of said movie's release. I couldn't imagine any movie studio ever going for that.

"Any graphic novel nerd will hold a special place for Alan Moore's"
To correct you guys this was never a graphic novel.
It was a mini series and then later published in a tradepaper
back.
There is a difference.
I was never into the Watchmen comic when it first came out
but the movie does look interesting.
As for the game that's a wait and see thing for me, depends
i guess on how the movie turns out.

I Believe Infamous will do just fine for me
And I will never ever trust a game based on a movie
