WipEout HD delay means more tracks, ships and Trophies

Yes, we're all bummed by WipEout HD's epilepsy-related delay. However, we're reminded of the old adage, "good things come to those who wait." It appears that the team at Liverpool isn't just sitting around. They've taken this time to add a number of new features to WipEout HD, most exciting of which must be Trophies. A SCEE representative told TVG that the delay has added "8 reverse tracks, 4 extra ships, 2 alternative HUDS, 2 Player offline split screen and XMB Trophy support."

Wow, that's a lot of added content. We're excited for WipEout HD, and we're glad to see more being added to the upcoming racer. Now, we all have to do just one thing: wait.

Speaking of that, I really hope Sony makes Trophies mandatory for every PS3 game. But having them unique to PS3 is kind of too much to ask so I would be alright with having the same trophies as 360's achievements.

a bit off topic, and not a big deal but i just noticed a new addition to fw 2.41. If you look under Users, they've added an option to turn off the system from there.

since you went off topic about turning off the ps3, I thought I read about a new feature where the ps3 turns itself off after a download is finished? I can't figure out how to do that for some reason.

Also, wasn't there an auto-off controller function way back a 1.xx fw?? Or was that just never true?

well i know the fw update now has that option and folding at home but nothing else. (Playstation store has been updated)

There was a turn off/restart console automatically after firmware update, that was new.

How do I do that? When I press triangle, I just see the usual options, nothing about auto-off though =/

No its only when you update the firmware. Rather than doing it manually it now asks if you want to restart automatically.

I actually think it was in the firmware before 2.40 but it was ony noticed when everyone updated to 2.40 because it asked them if they wanted to automatically restart the console after the update.

AFAIK there is no auto off option after downloads. Sadly.

I think they ment that the controller turns it self off when it battery dies. lol Just kidding, but i did hear about that although a don't think it ever happened.

Yup, me too. Any game that gets released in the next few months without trophy support is gonna look lazy. I didn't think I'd care at first but now that I've racked up some SSHD trophies, I expect all new games to have them.

Can't wait for this.. first PSX game I ever played was Wipeout. Anti-grav done right.

And now with these additions (especially split screen!), it's an even better deal.

Alternative HUDs? Thats sort of interesting too, gotta love HUD designs, or ANY part of the design of a WO game.
Also, custom soundtracks would be a worthy addition for the delay.

@1664: I totally agree, but the soundtrack for Wipeout 2097 was insane out of the box. It was so good I bought it on vinyl.

Yay!!! This game just keeps on getting more awesome minute by minute... TROPHIES YAY!!!! I dont mind having seizure attacks, as long as i get a trophy in the end =P....
Hope they release it soon....
