DC Universe Online walkthrough straight from Comic Con
DC Universe Online probably won't be out until this time next year, but it's already playable today at Comic Con. Can't make it? Mr. Rubenstein of the PlayStation Blog has your back. The video above shows the game's Creative Director, Jens Anderson, giving us a tour of the game in its current state. The character visuals may look a little rough, but the gameplay looks pretty interesting. For an MMO.
We love the look of running up and down buildings and throwing cars in a persistent world on the PS3, but can't help feeling a niggle at the back of our mind. Why couldn't it be Marvel Universe Online? Maybe one day ...

Personally I think DC has more compelling stories anyway, but
I am a huge Batman/DC fan so that statement is biased. But still I cannot wait for this game

Batman and Robin?!
We're playing the guessing game right?

I think overall Batman is the best developed superhero, he easily trumps Marvel and DC's other offerings. And he finally has the claim on best comic book movie of all time.
But I agree, I'm not all that interested in the rest of the DCU. If I was to play this I would just stay in Gotham the whole time.

I personally think Batman had the claim on the best comic book movie of all time even before The Dark Knight. Burton's Batman was the perfect movie when it came out and still today, the tone, story, script, acting, "effects" (though I don't think there really were any).. everything was and is perfect. Superman would probably be my pick for close 2nd, big problem being the technology just wasn't there. Spider-man 2/Spider-man would be my 3rd pick (excellent movie all around although the dialogue and acting were unexplainably cheesy at times) and X-men 2/X-men 4th.

Green Lantern FTW!!!!
But if this does not have any subscription fees for PS3 I will pick it up
Shahryar @ Jul 26th 2008 11:46AM
yeah, I myself would be hesitant if there were subscription fees too. I'd rather pay a one time fee.

I wasn't interested in the game at all until i saw this vid. It looks quite good, in a Crackdown kind of way. Which is a game that I loved.

Wasn't M$ making Marvel Universe Online? I'm pretty sure they were, but the project fell through.

Yeah, PS3 got the rights to DC but 360 got the rights to Marvel. The Marvel game got cancelled though.
Pralaya @ Jul 25th 2008 10:47PM
marvel? what about DC and the Vertigo Stuff and Alan Moore...

This game looked some what boring at E3 but I've got to admit that it doesn't look half bad after watching this.
Look forward to it.

The game looks intriguing and for fans of DC comics I can see this being a huge selling point for them getting a PS3....
carl @ Jul 26th 2008 4:09PM
Im more of a Marvel Person but I like DC too, and Batman is my favorite. So this is a no brainer to get for me...It really looks interesting...more of an enhanced version of City of Heroes and Villains

Why does it just say "PS3Fanboy Staff" at the top of the post instead of the blogger's name?

Why even mention Marvel? They're great too, don't get me wrong, but there's nothing in MU that truly "beats" DCU.
DCU is a much older (and I think richer) continuum. Being based in multiple areas (Metropolis, Gotham, Central City, Coast City, etc) the DCU seems to have more the offer a large community than the mostly-NYC-based MU.
People that only watched the Saturday morning cartoons might scoff at characters like "Aquaman" and "Supergirl" but in the hands of a writer like Peter David these can be some of the most interesting characters ever created.
DCU also has a strong tendancy to update it's characters for mature audiences. Traditional DCU characters like "Swamp Thing", "The Demon Etrigan", "Doom Patrol" and many others have become very popular in the Vertigo line and might make appearences.
Even with all this love I doubt I'll bother with the actual game (I simply don't have time for a game that never "ends") but DCU definately has the depth to make it worth it.
