Japanese ad for Siren is shocking
Just wait for it ... wait for it.
The Japanese ad for SIREN: Blood Curse (now available) is rather shocking. We don't want to ruin the surprise for you, so please just watch. Would an ad like this work in the States? We say: yes.

Pretty lame if you ask me.
Enumasam @ Jul 25th 2008 5:16PM
The oroginal siren ads for the PS2 were FAR more scary and would never work here in the US. I can honestly say its one of the most disturbing ads I've seen for a survival horror game ever. I won't spoil it, but if you can't find it I'll explain.
darthug @ Jul 25th 2008 1:05PM
I almost shat myself!
TinyTim121 @ Jul 25th 2008 1:05PM
lol!
Why isn't this used in america advertising though?
I mean, obvs after its been translated
Ty @ Jul 25th 2008 1:37PM
If not for reading the comments first and just preparing myself I would have shat myself too lol.
Nick @ Jul 25th 2008 1:11PM
Because this country is full of pussies and old people. I thought the ad was pretty tame, but it'd be something new and fresh to see on TV.
stargateheaven @ Jul 25th 2008 1:22PM
people would have heart attacks lol. and then there's fat people... (fat princess complainer)
magicfett @ Jul 25th 2008 1:14PM
Yeah tame is right but the soccer moms and wii users would flip out. The backlash would be crazy in the good ole u s of a. Hey you know that might be a good thing for the game worked for GTA.
shase @ Jul 25th 2008 1:15PM
it kind of reminded me of that program (forget name) where a ghost face pops up in the screen at random times...
farfisa @ Jul 25th 2008 2:40PM
You thinking of that creepy little girl ghost from the Grudge?
Frastoglegnia @ Jul 26th 2008 7:06AM
I believe shase is thinking of a Japanese site that uses a concept made familiar by The Ring: a ghost face appears amid programming language and marks the viewer for death. I've forgotten the name of the site as well.
Odd, that people don't make the connection between 90s Japanese horror and Lovecraft. The idea of being killed by a work of art or scholarship is pre-Victorian.
nylonpsycho @ Jul 26th 2008 8:31PM
McDonald's?
ultima_omega @ Jul 25th 2008 1:18PM
That didn't scare me at all but after everything Siren has threw at me today that was pretty pathetic.
Dehshizknight @ Jul 25th 2008 4:32PM
Yeah, but they can't just put rated-M content on public television. Of course the commercials aren't gonna be on par with the actual game.
JaseH @ Jul 25th 2008 1:22PM
So this is what slow news day tastes like. Lol.

can somebody ruin it for me?
i hate watching "scary/horror" related stuff.
doc j @ Jul 25th 2008 1:53PM
*spoiler*
You're looking over a basement setting. It's sorta dark. Long period of mostly silence, but you hear someone breathing (supposed to be you, i think?). At the very end of the conversation, and face pops up at you and a gasping noise plays. Pretty tame, but I like the idea.

Yoichi Wada comes on stage, mumbles some stuff about some RPGs nobody cares about, then BOOM! FF XIII for 360.
Sushidrew @ Jul 25th 2008 1:24PM
The PS2 SIREN commercials were a lot scarier in Japan. I remember my brother and mother coming up to me and said they saw a really scary commercial about a PS2 game. I kept watching TV but never saw it. Then I found it on YouTube, but it said "banned" SIREN commercial in Japan. I guess they took the commercial down because it was too scary for some people. I live in Japan btw.
frankym @ Jul 25th 2008 1:48PM
I hated the demo of this game....just not my type of game
NotSafe4Work @ Jul 25th 2008 2:03PM
I've brought more frightening broccoli - and I shop at sainsburys
Se7enwolf @ Jul 25th 2008 2:04PM
that add was lame. All they did was rip off all those "Jump out and scream" flash pictures that people fall for on the net only this was a lot weaker then those. Nothing shocking about this.
eugene @ Jul 25th 2008 2:09PM
shocking... shockingly LAME.
TheSh0wstopper @ Jul 25th 2008 2:11PM
Dear anyonw who bought the game,
IS IT ANY GOOD? IS IT SCARY? DID THEY GET RID OF THAT FRICKIN GRAINY TINT FROM THE DEMO?
-TheSh0wstopper
P.S.
I hate this commenting system. Could y'all have possibly chosen a worse program.
freeblue @ Jul 25th 2008 2:12PM
welcome to 1999. kinda expected it and turned the volume to low.

So lame.
1) Happened so fast, I had to replay it twice, and then again as slow speed to see what the heck it even was.
2) Reminds me of all those lame flash-based scare things people keep making.
Danbo @ Jul 25th 2008 4:25PM
That was hilarious. But it's probably better that they don't play it in the States. I think someone would find a way to press charges.
k3mtrick @ Jul 25th 2008 6:21PM
Hahaha! Looks like a lame school media project. Would have thought Japan (home of The Ring) could have come up with something better...
TasukiNekoi @ Jul 25th 2008 6:47PM
I personally hate those bits you know exactly what will happen and you still are suprised, when it happens eventually.
Danger @ Jul 26th 2008 12:13AM
I think that Sony should use the way the japanese guy said "playstation 3" on the american commercials and whenever you load a game up. that would be a win win situation for all.
Soapy911 @ Jul 26th 2008 1:07AM
well that was predictable & lame ,_,
heavenly_King @ Jul 26th 2008 1:07AM
It is not scary, but for A LOT of people it is
CianKn @ Jul 26th 2008 12:19PM
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ST4RSCR34M @ Jul 28th 2008 5:01PM
At first I didn't see anything just heard a noise so I had to replay and freeze it. I guess it COULD be scary depending on age,tv volume, and if you're paying attention. Bad ass though.
TheSh0wstopper @ Jul 28th 2008 5:03PM
I wanted to LOVE Siren. But when I played the demo I just couldn get past how grainy it looked. I know that they prolly did this on purpose for "effect". But it left a sour taste in my mouth. Has anyone bought the game? And if you did what do you think of it? Its gonna be a lonely friday night for me and I wouldnt mind getting a scary game to play. BTW, is the game scary? Ehh at least I have Elefunk to keep me busy.
Hey Fanboys how about some news today? And I dont wanna hear its slow. Here i'll help you out:
EA bought the rights to Mass Effect and now its rumored that it is no longer going to remain a 360 exclusive. The Head honcho at Bioware even took back his exclusivity statement. And we all know how EA hates to release multiplatform games, they usually only make exclusives. Afterall they are not like those other money hungry companies that realease half assed games and only care about profits (sarcasm)
