Alone in the Dark finally coming in November
Still waiting for Alone in the Dark? Is a release date of autumn 2008 too vague for you? Not to worry, Eurogamer just got official word from Atari that Alone in the Dark for the PS3 will be arriving in November. Obviously, Eurogamer reports on European release dates, but since Alone in the Dark for the PS2/360/Wii launched in the US four days after the European release date, we are assuming the US will get the game in November as well.
Hopefully, we'll see some of that episodic content to make up for the time PS3 owners had to wait. Or did the five-month delay (coupled with hilariously bad reviews) cause any disinterest?

No, my friends horror stories about the game convinced me not to care about the game anymore.
Danny F. @ Jul 28th 2008 10:49AM
Same here, not a single person I know who bought it really liked it enough to keep from trading it in after beating it or before even finishing it.
AMG @ Jul 28th 2008 10:37AM
Doesn't look too promising.. but then who listens to critics all the time? It will definitely be rent for me.

Maybe the delay will make the game good.
The_Punisher @ Jul 28th 2008 10:44AM
The only way to make this game good is to pretend it never happened.
The_Punisher @ Jul 28th 2008 10:43AM
Judging from the reviews, i'll wait for it at $10.
koehler83 @ Jul 28th 2008 10:45AM
The 5 month delay and the horrible reviews had absolutely no effect on my interest in this game. Of course, I could have easily picked it up on 360 or Wii and didnt, so that should sum it up.
flynn110 @ Jul 28th 2008 10:46AM
i started out so excited for this title and then i read the reviews...not so promising. supposedly there are some very big flaws and one part of the game that is largely unplayable. anyone played it through on the xbox?
Eric E @ Jul 28th 2008 10:53AM
I had high hopes, But They've read teh reviews, it'd be stupid not to fix them while they can. no one will buy it if its the same crappy game, just 5 months old and more of it.
Most Reviews Sad it had promise and the fire was cool, just fix the bad things!
samuraidino @ Jul 28th 2008 10:55AM
Give me a significent improvement on the current versions and we might talk Atari.
iv been playing the 360 version for the last two days, and its really really sad to see such wasted potential.
*ways to make the game better*
Let the player have the choice of making the inventory real time or paused. Also maybe add another pocket or two.Itd be nice to make more combinations
Improve the driving controls, its like Carnby is drunk and behind the wheels of a shopping cart. Also give the pyshics engine a tweak so that when your driving, pieces of microscopic dirt dont send you airborne.
One tiny burst of fire should not be enough to instant kill an enemy, some challenge please.
Explain how the hell im supposed to use wires.
A 3rd person aiming system would have been nice, the first person view doesnt particularly cut it.
ok so I know that these will never happen. But if atari did address these complaints I would be more than happy to buy a PS3 version.

man, that's a pretty idiotic thing on their part, to release a game months after it got bad reviews (unless they patch what made the game fail).
at least releasing it within the game's launch window with other platform releases would increase more people curious about the game/more possible sales.
but this? just a bad move, lol.
Brodie-san @ Jul 28th 2008 11:39AM
Well, considering that this IP is going to sell a certain number of units purely based on its history and "brand name association" it's not idiotic to release it.
Cost benefit analysis: cost of PS3 development of game + marketing + production etc. Vs. Projected Sales Revenue of game on PS3.
I can assure you that the latter is higher so it makes less sense to pull it just because it got mediocre reviews.
They'll release it. It'll make them some money. Harrison will come out and say they're not going to make big budget games anymore (again) and probably use AITD as a case study why they shouldn't.
I don't blame Phil for this game's less than illustrious reviews. I don't think he could have pulled this one from the fire when he got there.
I'm interested to see what he does with Atari going forward. I'm also wondering if he would ever contemplate going back to Sony. If Atari doesn't start having some big wins soon ... who knows?
ryan @ Jul 28th 2008 2:50PM
yes, but we can't deny that sales will be affected by word of mouth.
maxpontiac @ Jul 28th 2008 10:58AM
Give me some Trophies, and I might purchase it.
TheSh0wstopper @ Jul 28th 2008 10:58AM
I downloaded this for PC about a week ago. After hearing the horrible reviews I haven't even bothered installing it.

No thanx... I'll just play Dead Space and then play through Siren again. Unless Dead Space sucks, in that case I'll just keep playing through Siren until another good survival horror game comes out. Can't wait to get episodes 5-8, I just have to dupe someone into letting me use there credit card...
Plus there is another certain survival horror game coming out next year with a 5 on the end that I will certainly pick up, and it ain't Silent Hill...
jae29one @ Jul 28th 2008 6:36PM
If I were Sony I wouldnt even allow this game to come out..
Joe @ Jul 28th 2008 11:15AM
I hope there will be trophie support because the other versions were not that good. Plus does any one know if Atari will make a new Roller Coaster Tycoon game. I would love to play that on the PS3.
ryan @ Jul 28th 2008 11:31AM
if Achievement incentive didn't help the other version how will Trophy support help this one?....and do you really want Trophies from a mediocre game? i mean really, is this bragging right potential here?
Ferry @ Jul 28th 2008 11:22AM
TheSh0wstopper, WTF? Stop downloading games and praise Piracy, if we want to play our games in the future we have to buy them. Piracy is the main reason why companies like EA and Activision are buying all the little companies.
About Alone in the Dark, I can't believe they will not improve the game for the PS3 after seeing all the criticism of the game for Xbox and other consoles.
Tsion @ Jul 28th 2008 11:25AM
I know one person who liked this game. . .
But he likes furries and Emo's so I can't be swayed to believe anything he says.
Really, what was the story behind this zombie title? Man fell asleep and awoke to a town filled with zombies.
Hmm, sound familiar to anyone else? People say FPS's are all the same, but if it wasn't for the RE series taking a new perspective on what zombies are this genre should've died with I AM LEGEND.
drdre74 @ Jul 28th 2008 11:27AM
well after the bad reviews I'm not getting it. When games like this get pushed back on a system but comes out on time on the other really hurts the game. Now everyone knows how bad it is plus it late.
ryan @ Jul 28th 2008 12:06PM
i honestly think it's a waste of money to put it on another system this late in the game.
Brodie-san @ Jul 28th 2008 11:41AM
It's official: I hate this comment system. Every time I comment lately it tells me that I need to approve the email. Which ... NEVER ARRIVES!
I didn't use profanity (which apparently can trigger the email approval). Anyone know other reasons why sometimes you get the mail and sometimes you don't?
(Apologies for being off topic)
Thanks.
Karycam @ Jul 28th 2008 11:53AM
I had such high hopes for this game but to be honest Atari left the PS3 Alone in the Dark so why should we be the suckers to purchase this piece of crap, so they can increase their revenue (Finger waving) no way Atari sorry I wont be helping shyt!
e.Missark @ Jul 28th 2008 1:08PM
It's sad that Microsoft pays for time exclusivity on games that are bad and aren't even worth it. Sad and funny actually. LOL. It's nice to have all that money to throw away at whim.
ryan @ Jul 28th 2008 1:56PM
could that be the reason for the delay? funny, i thought the devs just sucked at porting to the PS3.
Deuce @ Jul 28th 2008 3:37PM
One would hope that, perhaps, they would have taken the delay time to fix/streamline some of the game's existing issues. Seemed to be a game with a lot of potential, but missed the mark.
