PSP hardware and software sales for Q1 2009

During this period, PSP sold 3.72 million units worldwide. This is an increase of 75% over Q1 2008. Software sales went up to 11.8 million units, an increase of 20%. While improving software sales is a good sign, this total still trails significant earnings from both the PS2 and PS3.
PSP has been meeting incredible success all over the world, especially in Japan. With sales the way they are now, there's little reason to believe the trend will change any time soon.

Now if they could only try to reproduce that over here in the states. Really, it's pretty pathetic. With a whole library of PS1 games that will just work, PS2 games that could get ported, and about a billion Japanese games that just need a translator.... come on Sony! Put a little push behind the PSP.

Anyway, considering what they've managed to do with the PSP in Japan now, if they could repeat that with the rest of the world then the DS would really be quaking in its boots.

What no bleating about piracy? You guys are slipping.
It really is unbeleivable that the whole PS1 libary is available and we can't get it legally - thats just rubbish Sony.

oh the trend is changing. i stop using my psp so much and it hasnt been a complete year. i kinda want a ds now.

That's weird though, because just recently we've seen stories about how poorly the PSP is doing (indeed, the 3rd link at the bottom of the stories is one of them).
Sounds like Japan is pretty much the sole reason for the increase...

Honestly, I'm getting a little bored with my PSP. I keep on reading about these cool and interesting apps/peripherals available in other countries that the US PSP is becoming quite lame in comparison.

I'm confused as to why the psp has little new software in comparison to the NDS. People blame piracy alot but its my understanding that with the DS it is darn easy to pirate games using R4. I really like both of my systems but I havent bought a psp game since god of war because there simply isnt anything that has caught my attention. Also where the heck is the gps?? I'm sad sony...really sad. You see the tears in my eyes?
