Gran Turismo 5 Prologue update brings GTTV content drop
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue expands this Friday, August 1st with a fairly large content patch. Not only will the patch bring the first load of GTTV content, but also a few gameplay enhancements and fixes. A full list of GTTV videos is available on the official site and will be constantly updated as more is added.
At the moment there's plenty to choose from, from season 6 of Top Gear (a must see) to Japan's Super GT and a "video magazine" called Video Option. For the first two weeks all paid-for content will be at the reduced price of $0.99, letting you trial the content for a little while for half price.
The patch also adds "fixes in penalty judgments, more tire choices for Time Trial and improved physics during collisions between cars during online races." Sounds like a pretty hefty update. Not bad for a free patch, right? Check the PlayStation Blog post for more info.

does anyone actually care about this?
Jtenma @ Jul 30th 2008 7:54PM
I agree.
They need to focus more on improving online stability and car damage as well as the final game before they focus on these "features".
They need to get their priorities straight...
Maya Butreeks @ Jul 30th 2008 8:11PM
yes.
AmericanNinja @ Jul 30th 2008 9:10PM
OH PLEASE POLYPHONY DIGITAL DONT ADD NEW FEATURES AND BUGFIXES THAT IMPROVE THE GAME!
*rolleyes*
man people be thankful once.
Haohmaru @ Jul 30th 2008 10:28PM
But it's cool to be a jaded and cynical consumer!
JerJerBinks @ Jul 30th 2008 10:28PM
How about you guys over at Polyphony spend a little less time on GT5P the incredibly lame GTTV, and a little more time GT5. The fact that there is not a full GT game out almost 2 years into the PS3 life cycle is a tragedy.
HAAS599 @ Jul 30th 2008 11:07PM
In case you didnt know, GT5 prologue IS GT5. Just with not as many cars, tracks, and photo mode and such. PD is constantly developing GT5 and GT5:P is part of that development. When GT5 does come out, the online multiplayer and penalty system will be solid thanks to GT5:P.
Think of it as home beta, or MGS online beta, or Socom beta, or Resistance 2 beta, etc......
Jtenma @ Jul 31st 2008 5:27AM
@Haoh and American
Good thing I caught this..
You know that is not what I meant so dont even try it...
You know the are pushing the shit out of this GTTV thing..even going as far as to show it at E3, wow...
And yes, as I clearly stated, I DO want these bug fixes...dur...that is what I typed!
Fact is, GTTV is like making DLC before the actual game...which is exactly what is happening here (GT5 is not out yet, yes this IS a BETA).
Again, as a faithful Polyphony consumer, just focus on the damn core game!
maroofh @ Jul 30th 2008 7:38PM
yes although i thought gttv wud be free as top gear is from bbc which shud be free (at least for UK) and all updates shud be free imo. They're only adding what should've come with the game. Unless its added content or sumfin.....i dunno
Phizzy @ Jul 30th 2008 8:04PM
The Top Gear content's paid? Fuck that.
Whoppy @ Jul 30th 2008 8:06PM
Can you organise races with people yet? I haven't played it for a while but that pissed me off. Racing with people you know = fun. Racing with tools who get pissy and spin you = bad.
heckteck @ Jul 30th 2008 8:16PM
dude i'm really excited mainly because i'm a total car fanatic and now i don't have to order Best Motoring and Video Option anymore
i can just download them but i can see why some people might not care about this content though
Vcize @ Jul 30th 2008 8:23PM
They really shouldn't release any updates until they have one that fixes online play and adds car damage, because anything else is just going to tick people off that they're not getting what they want.
And really, GTTV? THAT's what they're spending their update time on?
AMG @ Jul 30th 2008 8:31PM
GTTV sucks. Wheres new tracks? Car damage..?? oh i forgot thats what Gran Turismo 5 is for.. by the way they recon it takes them like 1 year to build 1 track, damn. See you in 2009.
John @ Jul 30th 2008 8:38PM
Car damage won't appear in Prologue and real racers don't care, for now. The best update would be ability to race against a friend or host races. Glad to see the online updates, because it seriously needed it.
jasoncps @ Jul 30th 2008 8:59PM
Thank you Polyphony, but where are more TRACKS!?!?
Fuck GTTV ok. Give us more TRACKS.
Nurburgring. Now. Please.
Rob @ Jul 30th 2008 9:36PM
any word on support of in-game music via xmb?
Wayne @ Jul 30th 2008 9:40PM
Wait, you have to PAY for the GTTV content? That's a joke right? No? Oh ok, time to list this POS on eBay...
Kodros @ Jul 31st 2008 12:12AM
Yes, some of it.
frankym @ Jul 30th 2008 9:52PM
Where are the new tracks???
This game sucks right now. The online mode is PATHETIC!
Greg @ Jul 30th 2008 10:03PM
I feel like they really want to milk us on this game... Seriously, this game is not more than a big demo, and they add video content to purchase ??? Come on !!!
I agree on the comment about top gear being paid by the TV license in UK, therefore, it should be FREE for UK residents! But it won't !
linton @ Jul 31st 2008 5:32AM
What's wrong with you all!?, PD made it clear long ago that damage isnt coming till they fix the penalty and collision system first, I mean what would be the point of having damage if the other two aren't accurate - you'd have a 30mph shunt/tap look like a 100mph piledriver sending your car through the barriers(in reality of course!)
Someone posted a link a while back from PD saying Damage will come roughly 5 - 8weeks after The collision system is fixed(for various fine tuning I'd guess), and besides from what ive seen lately online people are getting better at judging their braking distance.
the one update I'd like is for all races to have a standing start or at least if they insist on keeping the rolling start to start like the American oval races almost 2 abreast or something like that anyway.
FireLord91 @ Jul 31st 2008 5:48AM
Top Gear won't be free downloadable no matter how much you complain. If they made it free for UK, everyone else would get annoyed about not getting it for free. Then people would make UK accounts, proxies and download free Top Gear.
If you want to watch Top Gear for (almost) free watch Dave. Make a sandwhich during the break or something.
finelicker @ Jul 31st 2008 5:51AM
What about the ability to race with friends, no? too much to ask? how ridiculous.!
What about custom soundtracks?
what about the ability to download faster than 5k/s from GTTV?
Offline, this game is great.
Online, its clearly broken.
Flicky @ Jul 31st 2008 9:14AM
Why pay for Top Gear when I can watch it on YouTube and half a dozen other sites ?
Now if they could hook up with Dorna and get MotoGP races in HD, that's something I would pay for.
davebo @ Jul 31st 2008 11:28AM
They better pray I'm not sick of racing games by the time the full version comes out in what... 2010 now? If they spent less time modeling cars no one will race like japanese minivans then they could wrap it up a lot sooner. Do we seriously need a Ford F-150 in a racing game?
Dan @ Jul 31st 2008 11:52AM
*Is completely bemused my people's obsession with car damage*
imo it would add nothing other than make it easier for the bumper car jerks to ruin more races.
don_sf @ Jul 31st 2008 1:49PM
people, what gt5:p has given is already so amazing. it is currently is the best looking racing game ever.
gran turismo has never had damage, yet it is a record breaking series - just check out the sales figures. the non damage didnt stop millions buying it.
i believe the purpose of gran turismo is to have a realistic experience, contruct those killer racing lines and find those precious extra milliseconds.
of course the biggest flaw in gran turismo has always been to nudge of anotha car and open up the corner for you. even with the penalty system, you can stil get away with a slight nudge and make the corner easier for yourself.
damage will not necesarily fix this completly. if they try to do it from a proper realistic viewpoint like how it happens in formula one. then wooh they have a massive job on their hands.
if you lot want damage and smooth online racing, then there are so mne more racing games out there which will fulfill your demands.
but me, i appreciate what polyphony have done so far. they have never failed to dissapoint, and i trust them to do things the right way.
remember theres always a price to pay for quality
Sean S @ Jul 31st 2008 2:00PM
It would be cool to watch some MotoGP races, but they'll save that for the PS3 Installment of Tourist Trophy. As for GT-TV, I hope they'll strike a deal to bring other great racing series (American Le Mans, IndyCar, World Touring Cars, and many others)on the service. Gameplay-wise: please for the love of god, FIX THE ONLINE MODE AND ADD MORE CARS+TRACKS!!!!!
Walo @ Jul 31st 2008 10:57PM
Online multiplayer is a nightmare as it is, the penalty fix better be good.
herc99 @ Aug 5th 2008 12:13AM
Where is this update??
