Uncharted's Trophies identical to in-game medals

An interview with Naughty Dog's Arne Meyer revealed a few details about Uncharted's upcoming Trophy patch which confirms what we've suspected all along. Trophies will be identical to the in-game rewards system ("medals"). The evidence? Arne says the game has 48 Trophies, 47 regular ones and 1 Platinum for completionists. The original game also featured 47 medals. Descriptions of certain Trophies, like killing fifty enemies in a row without dying should be familiar to those that already earned those medals. "The Trophies are tied to the medal rewards which already exist in Uncharted. The requirement to get each Trophy is exactly the same as the one for the associated medal."

Unfortunately, there is no retroactive rewards system for Uncharted. If you want Trophies, you're going to have to start all over from the beginning. "To receive Trophies in Uncharted you will have to start a brand new save game without any medals or rewards unlocked."

Also, don't expect any new content in the upcoming patch. It's all about Trophies. Expect the patch to go live in just a few more weeks.

thats dumb how you gotta play through it again, all those frustrating moments i had with the game xD imma probably get 15 or so, or just play it when i dont have anything else to play

But towards your complaint, it's simply to deter cheating.

I only played through it once (and wonder why 'crushing' never got unlocked for me), but I'm happy to have a reason to replay it because thus far I've been incredibly unwilling to dig it out of the stack in favor of launching Warhawk from the HDD lmao.

XD when Warhawks trophies arrive, it'll be laziness all over again...but until then (Uncharted trophies earlier than Warhawks?), I'll be re-playing Uncharted.

the game is fairly easy so I'm sure it shouldn't be too hard to get all 48 but I doubt I'll be able to do it anyway LOL I only earned about 10-15 medals so far anyway but it'll give me a reason to go back and play it again.

I get what you're saying and I feel the same way but the truth is, the whole "achievement" system was created to add replay value to the games and if you're replaying the whole thing just to get...then mission accomplished I suppose.

Because I didn't have much fun playing the game. I'm just a tiny bit upset that all the hard work I put into a game that I didn't particularly enjoy half the time I was playing it will count for nothing toward the game's trophies.

It did, when it was the only game I had to play for the PS3 and needed entertainment. I enjoyed it at first, but it became rather repetitive after awhile. And I said I didn't enjoy it "most of the time." Which means there are instances in the game that I do enjoy.

to be honest, ive never liked the idea of retroactive trophies. To me, the fun in trophies is achieveing them, if u get the patch and find u have them all already.. whats the point? its just an epeen extention.

Exactly that's the point. If it just looked at your existing save, then what's stopping you from copying that save from a friend or downloading it online. You shouldn't get rewarded unless you've actually earned the reward.

I don't mind playing this game again. Actually looking forward to it.

This is one of the few games that I won't mind playing again for trophies. And I understand the non-retro thing, since it would be easy to download a game save to get a quick platinum.

I just hoped i could start a new game from my existing save, so that the medals/trophies are marked somehow. but it's not a big deal really..

Also the patch-release-day is supposed to be August 22nd, as stated by Naughty Dog a wekk ago, or so...

I have been waiting for an excuse to buy this game for ages. The fact its now in the platinum range also and has trophies on the way makes this the time for me to splash some cash.

I do feel guilty for not buying it earlier when I have heard such great things about it.

I don't remember how many medals I got on my first play through. I just remember winding up with 39/60 of those relics/artifacts/whatever they were called...

I kind of expected this, but who cares? Uncharted is still one of the top three or four games of all time, probably best in its genre.

I'm ashamed to admit that I never finished it the first time. The zombies were just too much for me. I was probably actually getting fairly close to the end, too. Maybe I'll finish it up one of these days, just to see the end. I don't know if I'll go back and play it again.... maybe. I wasn't very good at opening those medals anyway, so the trophies probably aren't going to do that much for me.

I have all the treasures and pretty much 99% unlocked. Beat it on normal and Crushing. Damn the thought of playing the whole game again in Crushing makes me grind my teeth. lol. That was so damn hard to do and took me way longer to finish. I died at least 500 times.

I got all the medals and I've beaten the game about 4 times, and I have absolutely no gripes beating it again. It's such a great game that I'll likely enjoy the entire experience...

I'll probably rent this again because I had fun the first time and now I know how to play it better, so trophies might be easier to get. It's a pretty short game, so I can blast through it in a weekend.

I now take a "wait and see" approach to playing PS3/PSN games, due to possible trophy support. I have NCAA 2009 and CivRev at home, and I haven't even opened them yet. I don't want to get deep into the games only to find out that I will have to replay the whole thing for trophies.

Good thing I FINALLY bought Stardust!
