That's actually a really good guide for a complete newbie. I've been playing since around Christmas plus a few times on someone else's console, and this is relatively good for a new player...

I've been in Warhawk since day 1 and I still learned a couple interesting things from that. I don't feel so proud of it though.

They should start by making some UK ranked servers... -_-
JaseH @ Jul 30th 2008 9:19AM
I'm thinking about buying this game, haven't really got around to it yet... (Late I know...) but to anyone that does have it...
Is there still a robust amount of people battling it out online?... Seeing as it's been released ages ago.
Reallt like this game. How many level are there?

Really liking the way it plays. How many levels are there***
Gahh..
Gonzo @ Jul 30th 2008 10:50AM
I'm not too sure about how many people still play. It may be different for those who have the DLC, but it's hard to find a good server. Then who knows what will happen. Nobody seems to use the ranking restrictions so you could be going up against seasoned vets. I've also noticed that my friends and I sometimes get kicked off a server for no apparent reason. I could see if we were being total d-bags.
The original comes with a few warzones that can be broken down into smaller battlefields or used as a whole.

I wish I would have seen this when I got the game back in Nov when I first got this game. I was kinda frustrated by it so I just played COD4, I eventually sold the game. it looks pretty cool though.
Carney @ Jul 30th 2008 9:28AM
Does the "Greatest Hits" Blu-ray version of Warhawk include a Bluetooth headset?
CAHLITO @ Jul 30th 2008 9:35AM
I highly doubt it...
Bad Mojo @ Jul 30th 2008 10:48AM
I saw one at my local (Tampa, FL) Best Buy yesterday WITH headset for the $30 mark... definite buy if you haven't gotten it :)
Carney @ Jul 30th 2008 12:56PM
Thanks, Bad Mojo.
Actually I was kind of hoping it -didn't- have it, so I'd have an excuse to buy a separate higher-end one, like the Logitech Cordless Vantage
http://tinyurl.com/2gxobg
or the upcoming SOCOM PlayStation branded headset.
I bought this bundle once before and the headset never worked, and then my PS3 died while playing Warhawk so the disk was stuck in the system.
I've replaced the PS3 and am now trying to decide whether to just download the game (thus not being able to have an instruction manual) or buy the disc (and then be stuck with a cheap cruddy unwanted headset).

yea, i own this game and i used to be very frusterated by it by one day about 8 months ago i just figured it out and i wreck online.
for the person talking about number of player. warhawk has a shit load of players still and i think its one of the most popular games on PSN. theres like 6-8 maps depending if u buy the expansions which are completely worth it.
phuphroo @ Jul 30th 2008 1:26PM
uhh... warhawk WAS a popular online game when it first came out. now its servers are nearly completely empty. have fun playing with ur self.
Metoo @ Jul 30th 2008 11:02AM
I never knew about those lock-on and evasion status bars and I've been playing since late August '07!
The online community is still strong. There are always games going, no matter what time of day you log on.

Best. Game. Ever.
Highly frustrating for the newb, and this tutorial is not going to only make it more so. My reccomendations:
Start in an empty server to get a feel for the controls. The warhawks are the most frustrating for new players since you will constantly be shot out of the sky. Start in a missile turret, move to a tank, then some ground work before going airborne.
In the beginning you will be killed. A LOT. After 3 days I was starting to have fun, six months later I am totally hooked and play few other games.
Use the mic, even if others arn't... they are listening and your recon will help your team. The blue servers are sony's and they will not boot you unless you are teamkilling excessively.
There are always LOTS of people online, but it can sometimes take 2-3 trys to find a server with a good mix of players on it.

This is a great game, and thats a good video. I pretty much bounce between Warhawk and Bad Company, I love both of them for online gaming.

to add on to what whfb said:
It's also a good idea to start with your own server to learn where all the weapons spawn. Taking the extra 20 seconds to load up will keep your Kill/Death rate high and make you a formidable player.
Even if you die a lot, I recommend you stick with it. I was basically forced into Warhawk because my PS3 stopped reading discs, and Warhawk was one of the only fully downloadable games, so I stuck with it even though I got my ass handed to me day in and day out and now I'm tearing up the battlefield (binoculars ftw).
jaredgood1 @ Jul 30th 2008 12:46PM
One more tip for the new players: if you want to get the hang of the basic controls without worrying about getting repeatedly killed, set up your own LAN game. You can run/drive/fly around and get a feel for the game at your leisure. Also nice if you want to explore the map to find where certain weapons spawn.

I applaud Sony and BradyGames for their effort. This is a great video for the basics of Warhawk.
I dabbled in Warhawk, and it wasn't bad. Just very frustrating when you're trying to learn the controls while theres essentially, a war going on. This video explains a lot.

Someone asked how many levels there are. For the new players, please be aware that this game does not come with a campaign mode where you are just playing a story like most games. The only thing it has is you are always playing online and all the enemies are real people. It is the fastest paced and most fun game combination in my opinion. I have played 650 hours of it and plan on playing about 8 more today. I suggest buying it and creating your own server and lock it with a password to practice and get to know each map before playing, like others said.
It comes with 5 maps and each is split 5 ways with 6 different modes to play, like capture the flag. Then, you can buy the two booster packs with two maps split the same way. So, basically it's like having 35 different options.

Call me a pussy, but lack of tutorial is the number one reason I gave up on Warhawk. I often complain about demoes that don't teach you how to play. I really hate full games that don't. I REALLY hate a full game that doesn't and also has no single player game to teach you.
By tutorial, I don't mean pressing a button and it gives you a list of what each button does.
