Home beta client getting significant rehaul

See the e-mail, after the cut.
[Thanks, P.!]
"We are now moving into the next phase of PlayStation®Home's evolution and as a current tester we'd like you to continue your participation.
Your existing installation of the original PlayStation®Home Beta will no longer work and you should delete that by selecting it and pressing [TRIANGLE] and then choosing [Delete]. Please remember to delete your save data for it too. You will find that under [Saved Data Utility] in the [Game] section of your XMB."

We're supposedly getting some new info at Leipzig.
Look at the third to last question:

So when will we finally see Home?!?!?!
Eggy @ Jul 31st 2008 11:48AM
When it´s done.
Nate @ Jul 31st 2008 4:22PM
I also find the 360's new interface amusing.
Rowdehaj @ Jul 31st 2008 5:05PM
You are not seriously comparing a simple design overhaul to the ground-up creation of a pervasive interconnected online world.
You're just ... not.
philmcphail @ Jul 31st 2008 8:18PM
@ deaftly
You know, The New 360 Dash is almost exactly like the PS3's XMB right? Only reversed and placed horizontally to the left side? I have a 360 too and in a away I'm kinda excited for it but still, the New Xbox Experience isn't that great. (Except for Netflix, which seems awesome.) Other than that, avatars(Miis) the optional installing games thing, and the rehaul of the Dash isn't that revolutionary. I mean it looks more useful and nice but nothing to gloat about.
philmcphail @ Jul 31st 2008 8:28PM
oops typo *vertically not horizontally

If you guys don't not what it looks like, I still stick by what I said. I mean different categories going up and down and different folders viewed by moving left or right.
kevin @ Jul 31st 2008 11:48AM
kk i deleted it now what! ah lame :/ i think i have to input my code in the account management right? idk.. help!
Gaucho @ Jul 31st 2008 11:50AM
damn closed beta . . . why cant this be done like Gmail. Gmail is still in beta and yet anyone can get it. even back when no everyone had access to it, people who had it could send invitations to join it. *sigh* to be honest i don't really care much about home but I would like the only things pending for release to be games not something that should have come out ages ago. sorry for the pointless rant.
Devin @ Jul 31st 2008 12:00PM
Gmail (beta) is not equivalent to Home. I have never wanted/expected to have to send any feedback back to Google while using it and they have never asked for it either. They must be using internal research rather than the people actually using it. Who knows. I understand your pain though on the wait.
James @ Jul 31st 2008 12:10PM
Agreed, closed betas in this age are just stupid. People are so exposed to beta's now that if you put a disclaimer that it's a beta. The main problem is that Beta has gone from new and buggy to "sneak peak".. especially in the gaming world.
Look at what happened with SF2HD or whatever hd remake is coming to XBLA and PSN.. people were shocked at how buggy it was because it was a real beta.

gmail is definately ftw, its amazing. cant wait for home to be open to everyone.
stargateheaven @ Jul 31st 2008 11:54AM
so new u cant just update it?
i wonder what the changes are.
if only i was a beta tester i could find out.
ajrobin @ Jul 31st 2008 11:56AM
Is this the first release candidate maybe?
kevin @ Jul 31st 2008 11:59AM
anyone want my code that i got in my email?yes yes?
TOO bad MUAHAHAHAA
Devin @ Jul 31st 2008 12:01PM
Jerkface! j/k I want my first impression of Home to be a good one....
Senecal @ Jul 31st 2008 12:10PM
Yeah, I wish mine was. When this whole thing started I was soooo excited. I talked to a few people, went to a talent show, but then no one got on after that. There was no content really, hopefully this will be one step closer to the "Open Beta". See you all soon!
Brodie-san @ Jul 31st 2008 12:21PM
Well, considering all your previous comments about Home have been how boring it is ... no ?
:)
kevin @ Jul 31st 2008 1:24PM
lol my first impression back in sept.07 was woah! now they toned it down and took out SO much stuff its pure crap :/ downloadin new one now we'll see how it is
Senecal @ Jul 31st 2008 12:32PM
@Brodie
Yes, social interaction can get boring when there is no one to socially interact with... my bad.
Brodie-san @ Jul 31st 2008 5:08PM
hey Senecal...I was actually responding to Kevin who has regularly mentioned that Home is quite dull. I suppose we'll all find out soon! :)
gamingeek @ Jul 31st 2008 12:12PM
At this point it will NEVER live up to the hype.
Ty @ Jul 31st 2008 12:41PM
I agree and I think it will land with a resounding thud. Sony should have announced it for the first time a year after they first announced it.
kevin @ Jul 31st 2008 12:26PM
Will it be available in canada ontairo ? Cuz in the Playstation network i'm olny able to see the games and not the movies and T.V shows for sale or rent .
Xyb @ Jul 31st 2008 12:41PM
I'm in the beta myself and honnestly... I don't realy get what people expect this to be cause at the present time... it's realy a boring interface... I don't see why I would log into home to start a game... maybe there will be some improvement when there will be more people logged in... but as I say... I don't see the point of HOME so far...
PSN ID: Xyb
Mattchewie @ Jul 31st 2008 1:21PM
Well its not meant to be a interface. At its core its meant to be platform for socializing with the PS3 gaming community, extend the community features of games (warhawk 3d map to plan attacks).
So with that known I'm sure you will find home to be a better experience once a good amount of people can use the service.
Cause as with thing socially driven, people is the true product and things like HOME just help to bring it together.
bambino @ Jul 31st 2008 12:41PM
Al those crying about the Home delays etc will be the first ones to be like... "zOMG"
If you wanted rushed products you should have bought a 360 - Yeah see how that turned out :D
JaseH @ Jul 31st 2008 6:17PM
Deaftly, seriously, if you always think that way, then why the fuck do you always come on here?
Dude, I'm a PS3 fanboy through & through but you lurk around here more than I do.
*Whacks you upside the head*
Uhh, reality check.

How about you spend some more time playing them then? It'll be better for everyone really.
kentuckyfried @ Jul 31st 2008 3:13PM
^ yeah, which ones?
maxpontiac @ Jul 31st 2008 12:41PM
Come on. I am all for making sure Home is perfect before release, but why just give it to Japan.
America needs all the help it can get against the RODbox and Wii..
Nugent @ Jul 31st 2008 1:19PM
If you go to Joystiq they have a bit more info on the new client. Apparently, they have a Namco-designed arcade in there now. Pretty cool stuff, essentially a bunch of free retro games to play now and then. If they add enough things like this, it'll be worthwhile to pop in now and then to play a few quick mini-games.
I think the real benefit, however, will be if the multiplayer games like Warhawk or KZ2 can take advantage of Home, or even the MMOs. It would be a good space to organize raids, plan strategies, etc. Back when I played WoW, it would suck standing around waiting in front of UBRS or something for everyone to show up. With Home, they can theoretically have something for you to do while you wait.
gamingeek @ Jul 31st 2008 1:54PM
huh- wait a minute, free retro games in Home? Now that's kind of awesome.
If that's true dibs on the Pac Man machine!
rafoolik @ Jul 31st 2008 1:22PM
i dont understand though, on the bottom right-hand corner of the pic is say screenshot from august 2007. y
stargateheaven @ Jul 31st 2008 3:47PM
Since when has the screenshot on ps3fanboy EVER been relavant?
Daniel @ Jul 31st 2008 1:33PM
If there's an option to direct launch into home when you turn on the console, then I'll never see the XMB again. I like the idea of it almost being a menu system disguised as a MMO.
McBonk @ Jul 31st 2008 1:52PM
I like the way you think, Daniel! I hope Sony does, too. ;-)
Dwag @ Jul 31st 2008 3:18PM
Well from what I got of of Kotaku HOME is not a social network.

Mo @ Jul 31st 2008 6:18PM
that must be fucking awesome for the 12 people that have it
tehhaxxor @ Jul 31st 2008 8:07PM
