Life With PlayStation didn't arrive in July ... in case you hadn't noticed
So Life With PlayStation, the upcoming global news and weather service, didn't make its July release. According to Noam Rimon, of the SCEA R&D team, this is due to some "procedural matters" and the service should instead be released sometime in August. No more specific date than that has been revealed, but no doubt we'll hear more closer to the time. Rimon promises that when it finally arrives, Life With PlayStation will offer "a variety of interactive content and channels on a visually stunning worldwide map interface."

i love how sonys motto is"lets delay the fuck out of all of our projects "
Christian @ Aug 1st 2008 10:11AM
Actually seems to me that due to pressure from their PR departments most projects tend to give a release date to early, including most non-Sony ones on all platforms. And thus almost every project, not just Sony ones, tend to be 'delayed'.
Mo @ Aug 1st 2008 11:03AM
yes, seems like everything everywhere gets delayed... its pretty ridiculous
Arnon @ Aug 1st 2008 12:43PM
I honestly think they're trying really hard to show that their console is amazing.. but they honestly should just keep their mouths closed till they have a solid plan for their projects.. it just looks bad when they do this stuff, and it disappoints us =(
Paul (PSN: heypaul) @ Aug 1st 2008 1:42PM
They were doing so good too with launching the video store the day they announced it. Sony's getting better at keeping their mouths shut about projects until they're near release though. We first heard about this a month or so ago. When did we first hear about Killzone 2? E3 2006? For a February 2009 launch? I think they were 90% certain they could launch this by month's end, but something unexpected came up. The interesting question here is what's worse, a firm release date that's missed (Life with PS) or just a promise of a release in the near future with no date whatsoever (Uncharted trophies)?
lorddshadow @ Aug 1st 2008 5:48PM
@ Paul
Uncharted does have a date for trophies...
(August 22)
Saeed @ Aug 1st 2008 9:35AM
Real Time Clouds FTW
Brian Spence @ Aug 1st 2008 9:41AM
If this thing takes more than 5 seconds to come up on screen, I will never, never use it. I'd also have to be able to peruse it while listening to music. Points for adding least wanted feature, Sony.
SleeplessKn1ght @ Aug 1st 2008 9:42AM
Sigh... I give up. I'm not gonna read about new stuff for my PS3 until it downloads onto my machine. It's great that Sony wants the PS3 to be much more than a game console, but it's getting very old hearing about how these things keep getting pushed back because of vague issues.
Neuromancer @ Aug 1st 2008 9:47AM
Nice...
This would make a great Geoscape for the next X-Com game...
Gaucho @ Aug 1st 2008 9:54AM
It's like that Wii weather thing and wii news thing combined together and with better graphics. all in all still kinda pointless. I'm pretty sure going on weather.com or any news website would be faster and less of a hassle. why not just stop working on this and pool all the resources into Home or something slightly more useful.
Arnon @ Aug 1st 2008 12:45PM
I agree.. Are they honestly trying to build a gaming console or.. a Home? >_>.. They should stop working on pointless projects that I guarantee you will only be used about 3% of the time.. just to see what it looks like.
The Aggie CEO @ Aug 1st 2008 9:53AM
we were ALL shocked when Trenton announced the video store @ E3 and it came when he said it would.......lol.....
I expect nothing else to come when they say it will.......i.e. no Home Open Beta this fall
iamkid @ Aug 1st 2008 3:42PM
this is interesting, im actually kinda excited to see this.
iamkid @ Aug 1st 2008 9:58AM
this is interesting, im actually kinda excited to see this.
Sora57 @ Aug 1st 2008 9:59AM
So when you say it's now delayed until August, you mean August 09 right?
This seems like a useless feature anyway.
McKeyDee @ Aug 1st 2008 10:23AM
They should just stop announcing release dates....
ulrichgaming @ Aug 1st 2008 10:02AM
Dang it...
just when you think they are turning over a new leaf...
I'm fine waiting for home now... but this... I'm sure if all it did was give you the weather that would be all we would expect it to do... they can add to it later...
Kenny @ Aug 1st 2008 10:05AM
You guys should check out the Playstation Blog, its getting pretty scary in there, lots of pissed off people. The delays seem endless, Just want to know why Jack would say that on National TV, now he looks like the biggest jerk off of all time.
Gonzo @ Aug 1st 2008 10:23AM
I didn't even know about this one but how could I be surprised. Right after we get achievement trophies the next update has to be for wii news/weather. What's the difference? Weather in HD? Actually, what made it cool on the wii was spinning the globe with the remote.
I want them to start working on something original. I find it very hard to believe that this thing is so high tech it can only copy the best parts of other machines or that everything decent has been done.
With all the time and resources they spend on all this superfluous crap, I never ever even consider it. I still mostly just do the things it did when it came out of the box: play games and movies. They should work on improving those primary experiences. The ability to play your own music in any game would be cool, the ability to check the news, not as much.
Jerses @ Aug 1st 2008 10:22AM
Wait you guys they are just making a little adjustment to the real time clouds so they can add quality content to the ps3... or thats what they say.
Formula for ps3 realese date:
Date of release + 3 months + delays + delays = +1 year from the date of release
Devin @ Aug 1st 2008 10:34AM
stfu....
Greg @ Aug 1st 2008 10:55AM
Honestly, I think this feature is going to be really freaking cool and I can't wait to use it.
Mo @ Aug 1st 2008 11:00AM
in communist russia, SONY SCREWS YOU!!
ulrichgaming @ Aug 1st 2008 11:02AM
to those who think this is useless... my wife is looking forward to this... she likes all the extra stuff the PS3 does... but she's not all that into games. Anything that sparks the wife's interest in the PS3 is a good thing... lol
grimlock26 @ Aug 1st 2008 11:10AM
this is getting pretty sad. i can accept a change 6 months ahead of the release date, but when you say end of July i would expect you to have things all wrapped up. They should have just said "Later this summer"
kevin @ Aug 1st 2008 11:26AM
lmao at mo
JaffaBoy @ Aug 1st 2008 11:32AM
Sorry to say not.... saw that on playstation.blog
Averna @ Aug 1st 2008 12:07PM
My Sony sense are tingling!
Isnt this kinda what happened with Home? "Its coming in the next few months" for about six months before they shut their big yapps.
Arnon @ Aug 1st 2008 12:42PM
Pretty sure he was being sarcastic =P
Nozz @ Aug 1st 2008 2:34PM
I agree with an earlier comment about how sony should stop giving users "release dates"
I think they should stop giving us release dates and have a development bar (you know the 0% - 100% thing!) on the playstation website so that users can track progress on upcoming releases/firmwares.
that would be awesome because even the slightest delays to release dates can upset some of the more impatient Users...
Carney @ Aug 1st 2008 3:06PM
I think they should avoid getting into news. News is inherently contentious and controversial. They're bound to offend and annoy people with some sort of real or perceived bias on the basis of politics, religion, race, etc.
deusmecha @ Aug 1st 2008 3:34PM
I love seeing people compare this thing to the Wii News and Weather channels, when I don't recall both of those channels being able to record gameplay footage and upload it to Youtube.
That alone makes it download-worthy and if they need to delay it to get it right, then I'm for it.
linebeginstoblur @ Aug 1st 2008 5:04PM
Aw man, and I was looking forward to it. It's too bad it will never see the light of day. As Sony has taught me from the disaster known as "Home," if people talk too much about how they're "not ready, because we want it to be perfect when it finally comes out," it's as good as canceled. Thank God LittleBigPlanet isn't being developed by SCE, because there's actually a chance we may be able to play LBP someday.
kentuckyfried @ Aug 1st 2008 8:04PM
Sony shouldn't announce any dates unless they're fairly certain that they're going to meet them (e.g. the video store, it as pretty much already done, that was in the bag).
Like any other company, when you announce dates and then proceed to miss all of them, it makes for some way too optimistic expectations.
dannyg @ Aug 4th 2008 8:20PM
just look what happened with gta4 and re5 and to mention gran turismo 5
