Only nine FF games represented in Dissidia, Kefka spotted in new trailer
One of the most highly anticipated titles for the PSP is the FF mash-em-up brawler, Dissidia: Final Fantasy. We've previously known that one main hero and one villain will represent each game between FF's I through X; however, according to a preview from 1UP, there will only be nine Final Fantasy titles getting representatives.
With FFI, II, III, VIII, IX, and X's rosters fully confirmed, there's only room for three more games. FFVII's Sephiroth has been teased in trailers for the longest time, and 1UP's preview also mentions that FFVI's Kefka had been spotted in a new trailer at the recent Square Enix party. This basically points to both VI and VII being confirmed for two of the final three slots. That leaves either IV or V to be cut from the game. Seeing as V is the worst title in the series (feel free to send us your hate mail), most likely it'll be the one to be cut.

Wasn't Golbez seen in one of the promotional posters for the game? The big one with all the villians? Yeah, he was right there next to Jecht.
IV, VI, and VII just plain makes sense.
Exo @ Aug 2nd 2008 3:08PM
id say its more likley V willbe cut because none of the cahracters had a set class. not because of the titles quality
Majed Athab @ Aug 2nd 2008 3:10PM
Neither did Light Warrior, Firion, and Onion Knight.
Sean jdahsdka @ Aug 2nd 2008 3:24PM
I played part of V, but I though II was the worst.
But that won't stop me from playing Firion!
bryansurvive @ Aug 2nd 2008 3:40PM
lets hope they have unlockable characters.
koehler83 @ Aug 2nd 2008 3:41PM
I'd say no V because the characters are so dumb.
Bartz and Ex-Death? No..
Haohmaru @ Aug 2nd 2008 4:23PM
Butz was awesome. >.>
boltu222 @ Aug 2nd 2008 4:25PM
I doubt thats correct... SE treat all the FFs the same and I'd highly doubt they'd leave out one FF game in an FF all star beat em up >_>
Sure FFV is considered a bad on but so is II as well as XII theres some who consider IX seriously bad while others think VIII is weak and even some who dislike VII... no matter what theres always gonne be a person who hates one and loves another.
Rhyndo @ Aug 2nd 2008 4:30PM
Since V is cut out of any chance of being in the game, I'm hoping at least Gilgamesh shows up in one of his incarnations. He's been in enough games in the FF multiverse that he needs to be at least a cameo or an unlockable.

"Seeing as V is the worst title in the series"
LOL! so true. that game was so hard to get into. it looked so much like ff4 but had a suck ass story. they better add cecil or maybe kain. hell, even edge with his ninjitsu would be nice
Drew @ Aug 2nd 2008 4:55PM
I would've preferred III being cut, ever other FF I liked except that one.
strike @ Aug 2nd 2008 5:31PM
I think they will leave out IV or V for XII. I think they will include an Archadian Judge from XII. Why? I'm a physic =D
Seriously though, remember my name (strike), because when they announce an Archadian Judge, you will all worship me! HAHAHAhAhaHAHA!?
@boltu222-
"no matter what theres always gonne be a person who hates one and loves another"
I agree with you, not everyone has the same opinion.
strike @ Aug 2nd 2008 5:39PM
Square Enix also said there are gonna be 20 characters, so the other two have to come from somewhere. At the same time, they said there was a little surprise in store. Any guess's? I hope it's a character creator, that would be oresome, with a capital A :)
RPGTyrant @ Aug 2nd 2008 5:55PM
Ex-Death, Golbez, and Kefka were seen in art for it during this weekend, the 9 FF's only thing was a load of crap. Regardless of how you personally feel about as good a game as FFV, it IS included, deal with it.
Bodachi @ Aug 2nd 2008 6:21PM
a character creator would just be horrible because you'll have all these great characters and one/two generic characters
Lance @ Aug 2nd 2008 8:33PM
ExDeath, Golbez, and Kefka were all confirmed at the event. Final Fantasy I-X ARE included. Check around, there are many reports of this. qj.net and www.ffworld.com to name a few.
Majed Athab @ Aug 2nd 2008 8:40PM
Neither site you've posted as sources are in Japan for the event. However, 1UP is:
http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=8828512&publicUserId=5379721#comments
I'd take the source that is actually there to be the more credible one.
Ry @ Aug 2nd 2008 11:53PM
A better source is Neogaf, who have confirmed about the other characters in the game that Lance just mention about. Yes there will be 10 characters and once that comes truth, you'll have to change your article. I'll keep tabs for reference!

FFV would make enough sense. FFIV's Cecil may be in the running against the Warrior of Light and the younger Onion Knight (Ceodore, anyone? I wouldn't be surprised if some allusions to FFIVTA were/are made between Cec and OK), but he's rather iconic and, at least in my eyes, FFIV is THE vision of FINAL FANTASY (not to say it's better than other titles, but it's up there for me and iconic for the series).
Golbeza is also much cooler and prolly more well-known and/or liked compared to Exdeath. Not sure how magically inclined Exdeath was (I understand he was magically powerful, though), but Golbeza was never seen to use a weapon. An armored wizard is an etherecal tank (as opposed to the more real-word "ethereal", which just made me think of Darth Vader).
While Butz seems like a good-ol'-boy, "Freelancer" doesn't seem like the best choice for a fighter, and expemplifying all of his possible (or even suitable) classes might be a bit much. This, though, is just a guess on my part.
*forgets what was going to type* Something... hm...
Also: LOL at Kefka inspirational.

And here's the link:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=329668
Dissidia: Onion Knight is voiced by Jun Fukuyama, Cloud of Darkness is Masako Ikeda and Kefka is Shigeru Chiba. There appears to be a chessboard looking system, in the new trailer but it is unclear if this is an intermission mechanic between stages or if it is something similar to the Sphere and Licence grid systems. Might be more of the latter. Sephiroth is also seen in the realtime ingame engine for the first time. Golbez and Exdeath show up at the end and don't have any game or story scenes in the trailer. The demo on the show floor has Warrior of Light, Garland, Onion Knight, Tidus, Squall and Zidane as playable characters. When playing as Tidus, the Otherworld BGM is used. When you win a battle in Dissidia, you appear to gain equipment items, so although there is no equipment menu in the demo it's probably a part of the game.

Don't believe 1UP.com! According to them, Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers was released on December 15, 2007, so needless to say they aren't reliable:
Mune @ Aug 3rd 2008 11:17AM
V was fantastic. I have fond memories of the battle system and doing every side-quest in the game. Something I can't say of IV and VI.
Mr Mee @ Aug 3rd 2008 12:04PM
I - awesome
II - everything but the gameplay = great
III - decent
IV - freaking awesome
V - everything but the story = awesome
VI - freaking awesome
VII - awesome
VIII - hmmmm decent but emo
IX - freaking awesome
X - freaking awesome
XII - freaking awesome
so if they left out anyone I'd prefer that it would from V
Alien @ Aug 3rd 2008 1:44PM
The truth is that 5 would make sense to be left out. IMO its by far the least popular FF games...
andwhyisit @ Aug 3rd 2008 8:53PM
Personally I thought the class changing gameplay in Final Fantasy V was brilliant and the characters were memorable.
Alien @ Aug 4th 2008 7:14AM
Maybe, but that doesnt mean that it remained as much in gamers memory as 6 or 7...
Haohmaru @ Aug 25th 2008 10:31AM
Um, FFV also wasn't released outside of Japan until Final Fantasy Anthology came out for the PS1 YEARS after its original release, so of COURSE it's not as memorable to Western gamers as 6 and 7 are.
phr3qu3ncy441 @ Aug 29th 2008 12:56PM
this game wasn't even confirmed for the us yet (as of now). so perhaps the decision to leave out an FF is based on the overall popularity in japan. even without the us, i imagine the popularity of the various FFs are similar in japan.
phr3qu3ncy441 @ Aug 29th 2008 12:57PM
and if we're taking Haohmaru's logic into account, then that means ff3 should've been the one that was cut. ff5 had at least 2 remakes (psx/gba).
Rhonryle @ Aug 6th 2008 7:21AM
Rumor said Galuf is the hero of final fantasy V and not Bartz. Well thats wrong because in intro of ff5 bartz is the one who face exdeath not galuf. Besides he was killed by Exdeath how come Galuf is a hero. In my own opinion Galuf is not worthy to become roster in dissidia
jon @ Sep 5th 2008 12:51AM
I really want lock in there he was great or sabin or edgar they should just throw chrono in there that would be bad ass. so far the character line up is good but they should have put it on ps3 because it could be updated whenever and the d par on a psp sucks ass for fighting games unless you have a slim.
Rhonryle @ Oct 3rd 2008 7:27AM
Will everyone stop saying they will not include the final fantasy V. There are so many evidence. The examples are exdeath has seen in the last trailer. Exdeath is already been confirmed. The location of final fantasy V has been shown. So they will include ff5 get it. So stop saying they will never include ff5.
