Burnout Paradise Bikes DLC to add 15 hours of playtime

The next free DLC involving motorcycles for Burnout Paradise formerly known as Davis has been aptly renamed Burnout Bikes. MTV Multiplayer had a chance to try out the update and has the following details to share with us:
- Unlike cars who smash into bits during crashes, motorcycles are basically indestructible. However, when the driver flies off a bike, the driver will disappear on impact. This allows the game to maintain a Teen rating with the ESRB.
- You can choose the gender of your rider.
- You can perform wheelies, and it is "measured for duration in real-time just like drifting is for the game's cars."
- A motorcycle-license career path will be added.
- The new content will add about 15 hours of playtime.
- A day-night cycle and weather will be introduced.
- Motorcycle vs. car not in this expansion, but planned for the future
- No specific release date has been announced, but it should be "in the next couple of months."
[Thanks, Monik!]

Me too, but I thought Davis was planned for end of August... whats all this "few months" crap?
Nick @ Aug 4th 2008 11:14AM
The few months refers to other updates coming that will build off this upcoming update.
John @ Aug 4th 2008 12:19PM
"the next couple of months" is referring to the 360 update.

Poozle @ Aug 4th 2008 8:28AM
Oooooohhh, this is very interesting :) Can't believe how much support this is getting after release.
KristoffXIII @ Aug 4th 2008 3:15PM
With all the support they're still giving it...makes me want to get this game more and more...
ImBakinBacon @ Aug 4th 2008 8:37AM
I love Criterion!
linton @ Aug 4th 2008 9:18AM
Fantastic news, looks like criterion have stepped up making other games companies lookout as they will have to follow suit with new dlc for other games.
No more once its done its done anymore!

Considering there is no one driving the cars in Burnout why not just have the bikes driving by themselves. I suppose for some that could be quite distracting, but I'd like to see the cycles get smashed up, part of the whole appeal for Burnout for me. Even in the middle of a big race I'm not as pissed when I see my car shatter on impact.
I to greatly appreciate the support Criterion has been giving this game well after release, and for the PlayStation brand in general. This has easily become one of my favorite games, much like Burnout 3 and Legends before it. I'm also really really looking forward to that trophy support.

Okay, you don't see the rider getting banged about and the bikes can't be damaged. Erm...... What's the point? The whole gimmik of Burnout is the insane crashes.
Pete @ Aug 4th 2008 9:16AM
yeah but you can see why their doing it, if you have massive crashes where the rider gets slammed into a wall it bumps up the rating and they want to keep it the same (Teen?)
Averna @ Aug 4th 2008 10:22AM
I dont see why the driver cant fade out/disappear and the bike is the object of destruction. I dont see how a bike (minus rider) getting smashed is more violent than a car getting smashed.
parkd @ Aug 4th 2008 12:56PM
Doesn't the rider and the motorcycle in Motorstorm get banged up? How come Motorstorm can still stay teen?
ali_D @ Aug 4th 2008 10:04AM
WTF!!!!!!!! ppl falling of bikes n disappearing becuz of TEEN-rateing by ESRB now i know the game rateings FUCKING CRAZY as 4 the ppl dat rate em, its T=teens is usa rite we in europe usein the PEGI ratein it starts of 3+, so wot ratein is burnout-P have a guess nope it not 16+ even 12+, its 3+ now i understand this RATEIN got 2 change 2 make things worse here in the uk we have B.B.F.C that the film censor, but also they like 2 get 2 censor video games, so that means we got 2 rateings PEGI’S N B.B.F.C lol.
Averna @ Aug 4th 2008 10:24AM
ur grama hert my eis harf wai froo reedin
MakaiOokami @ Aug 4th 2008 3:13PM
Ya please clear up your grammar. There's more sexual connotation in the American version I believe. I think that probably 1 country has some sort of ruling on that and would outlaw it if it got too much. You gotta remember each country is ruled by different FCC....
Besides what does it even matter just enjoy the bike racing. After all it is free. I just hope that if they delay it, it would be to give us trophies. I really want to get some of my retroactive trophies O_o
Livi70590 @ Aug 4th 2008 10:08AM
15 hours Offline. Which means that the game's hardcore nutters should be able to get another 500-1000 online.
chillski320 @ Aug 4th 2008 10:48AM
yeah they got it all wrong, if they need to at least let u see the body go flying off the cycle into a wall at 180 mph.... they didnt need blood or anything it wouldnt of messed up there esrb rating
Thiago @ Aug 4th 2008 10:36AM
Will this dlc put trophies on Burnout?
maxpontiac @ Aug 4th 2008 10:47AM
Trophies?
Ryan @ Aug 4th 2008 11:15AM
While not a fan of this series, I find it amazing the incredible value this title has become. Truly a game that keeps on giving.
