Destroy All Humans! PSP gets canceled
We hate to wake you up from an afternoon catnap, but we need to let you know that Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed for the PSP has been canceled. Oh wait, you never heard of this title? That's probably because we last reported on it about a year ago.It is quite difficult to be excited about a game you don't hear much about, and so it comes as a non-shocker to hear that the game has been canceled. IGN reports that a THQ rep made this statement: "Basically, the PSP version was cancelled because of control issues ... When it was ported over to the PSP, the controls simply didn't translate well, and instead of pushing out the product with translated controls, it was canceled."
This must be bad news for Destroy All Humans! fans. For the rest of us who didn't have any vested interest in seeing alien "Willies" unleashing, we can all rest a little easier now.

Bugger. I feel I have to buy a Wii for this now.
I thought it was strange I never heard anything about it for ages.
Oh well, at least it wasn't developed by Pandemic, that would make the wound even worse. Bring on DAH!3 !
omgitsthepope @ Aug 4th 2008 6:43PM
yeah i wondered what happened to this game i wasn't gonna pick it up though most likely.
Wrathbringer @ Aug 4th 2008 7:29PM
I hadn't heard of this game before today, but I must say that I'm glad that a development team decided to cancel a game based on shoddy controls. It shows that at least SOME people are more concerned with putting out a quality product rather than some half-assed effort just for money.

Big Willy Unleashed Sucked so your not missing anything
LAZoftheTamarinds @ Aug 4th 2008 8:53PM
I have to agree, and this is coming from a DAH! fan.

Destroy all Humans os PSP was destroyed by human :(
cafecito @ Aug 4th 2008 7:46PM
That's a bummer. The first one was great, IMO. I see more evil hands at work there than just "control issues" tho... American PSP support grows thinner and thinner by the day.
Let's hope it's for the best.
freker @ Aug 4th 2008 7:56PM
The second ones awesome too, shame about Pandemic no longer making them though. Makes me doubt about the quality of the PS3/360 one.
I liked the idea of the mech in this one though, bit of new gameplay to the series, oh well. I'm not getting a Wii anytime soon.
lorddshadow @ Aug 4th 2008 7:49PM
this was one of my anticipated titles of 2008...bummer...i love DAH! and it's sad to hear about this...but i just got a PS3 so i can get Furon Unleashed...oh well
lorddshadow @ Aug 4th 2008 10:34PM
whoops i meant Path of the Furon
Jacksons @ Aug 4th 2008 8:01PM
The first one was kinda funny, with all the references. Making a franchise out of that game still confuses me, but the second one was alright too. Sadly, I've heard from friends that the newest one on Wii is pretty awful. A bit of a shame. Maybe Path of the Furon will be better.

*Sigh* This just proves that Sony needs to come out with a PSP 2 with two analog sticks, they are losing the handheld battle because the control.
Richard @ Aug 4th 2008 8:57PM
Not really, the control issue was just a lame excuse not to release it on PSP.
ShinyaAoki @ Aug 4th 2008 9:22PM
I don't think so. If the control is really a problem, you would've seen way more "cancelled" games. I've played DAH, there is nothing special with their controls.
It's more of a marketing/business decision, IMO. A bad one at it, considering the numbers PSP has been putting out in Japan.
ShinyaAoki @ Aug 4th 2008 9:23PM
Also: Games like Shyphon Filter have way more complicated gameplay than DAH, but they translate just fine.
anarkhy @ Aug 5th 2008 12:37PM
Games for handheld must be easy to play, thats why ds is such a success.
Launching a new psp with another analog stick is dumb, what they need to improve is the graphics, because today games looks more like ps1 or sega saturn, why they didnt put some anti-aliasing in psp?
Gmanall @ Aug 5th 2008 5:46PM
Ok, I don't want them to release a new PSP only with another analog stick. But rather when they come out with the "Next" PSP that is a no brainier.
Yeah it is marketing because that had to know what they were getting into before making it.
I am a major FPS fan and with only one analog stick it is harder to make and play it. That has scared off many developers. It deeply saddens me that the DS gets COD4 but there was no word about the PSP, and all the Battlefields that were in development and then fade out of the spotlight.
bryansurvive @ Aug 4th 2008 9:36PM
oh that sucks. i wanted to get that for psp. i never bought the console version cus i heard about this one. but now i dont even own a console.
Don @ Aug 4th 2008 11:38PM
Cancelled?!? Oh you gotta be f%^ing kidding me.
I just bought the Wii version, but I'm pretty sure the controls could be handled by the PSP:
analogue nub - move
face buttons - look/aim
R button - shoot
L button - jump/fly
The D pad could be used to select different weapons/bodysnatch/hypnotize. Holding down on the D-pad pauses the game & use the face buttons to select weapon/action ala Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters.
After Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, there really is *NO* excuse to have bad controls on the PSP. Come on.

First I want to thanks PSPFanboy for giving us some news on a game BESIDES freakin EchoChrome, Final Fantasy or some other Japanese game nobody in America cares about. Back on topic, sucks the game was cancelled but not too suprised considering most developers either dont even try with PSP anymore or they make amazing games and quickly retire from further PSP releases (looking at you ReadyAtDawn)
strike @ Aug 5th 2008 6:20AM
Its not psp fanboy's fault that echochrome was a good game and that Sony are still trying to advertise it, via the pc store.
It's also not their fault that dissidia and birth by sleep are only two of the most anticipated games this year.
And some people do care about these japanese news. I know quite a few people whom import games, and I'm thinking of doing the same.
Kspraydad @ Aug 5th 2008 10:33AM
Sounds like you'd prefer a port of Xenophobe.

I am actually disappointed. I love the Destroy All Humans! series I even played the one for the Wii so I really wanted to also see it for PSP so I can play something funny while I am out.
T-Bone Tibbins @ Aug 6th 2008 12:11PM
I dont have a problem with PSPFanboy reporting on those games, as they are good poducts and have fans. Im just saying it seems like for a long time, thats all they talked about. When I read a variety of PSP news on other sites but see the word "EchoChrome" mentioned 5 times on one page, yeah, a little variety please :)
