MGS4 helps boost Konami's first quarter earnings
Konami is in a good mood. Well, you would too if you were touting number spikes like a 116 percent jump in net revenues. Konami is reporting massive positive growth in its first quarter earnings and no doubt a huge chunk of that is due to the success of Metal Gear Solid 4 -- which has shipped three million units worldwide on its first week. Konami stated that sales for the PS3 exclusive Solid Snake adventure were "sensational" with sales still "steadily increasing."
As for all the final numbers for Konami's first quarter earnings for the period ended June 30, here they are: ¥70.8 billion ($654 million) in net revenues, operating income climbed over 165 percent to ¥11.6 billion, and net income grew about 47 percent to ¥5.66 billion ($52.3 million). Konami expects these numbers to rise to ¥330 billion, ¥45 billion, and ¥26 billion respectively for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2009.

4 million copies shipped is quite staggering

Good Konami. I'm glad you're happy. Now make sure to keep it exclusive will ya.

I picked up MGS3 (yep, 3 - not a typo) for the almighty price of €5.99 on Sunday and have begun to play through it. (That Halo jump opening sequence was AWESOME!)
Though I know it's not necessary to play the third game to enjoy MGS4 I've decided to be a purest and play them in release order (I also want to download the database and brush up on my MGS lore before I crack into MGS4 and don't want to be spoiled by anything I read.)
So, I expect to purchase MGS4 over the next few months (I also have a shed load of other games to play).
I can see this baby having high sales all the way to Christmas!

Lol have at it bro!
The beg-middle is a tad bit slow. Still some awesome gameplay though =).
But HOLY CRAP, those last few hours of MGS3 are like some of the best hours of gaming I've ever had. Honestly.

Actually, you made a good choice as a hell of a lot of the story (without spoiling things) is directly related to 3.
Dehshizknight @ Aug 5th 2008 8:25PM
MGS3 was amazing, although I still preferred MGS1 over it.
But MGS4 took the crown as the best game I've ever played, which previously was MGS1.

Surprisingly, I think three has more bearing on the entire series than any other games.

Once you guys get done rolling around in your Yen money vault, have a look at trophy support for MGS4 and MGO ok?
Amos @ Aug 5th 2008 6:44PM
Do you see, Square Enix? You can still sell a crapload of games without going multi-platform and giving the finger to your loyal fanbase.
turkeybaster @ Aug 5th 2008 9:59PM
I don't know if it's necessarily giving the finger to anyone. I do feel a bit apprehensive about the whole deal though. Considering how well Microsoft's previous answers to Final Fantasy, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey (by the original creators of Final Fantasy, no less) fared on the system, I'm not sure FFXIII is going to do as well on 360 as Squeenix hopes it will.
Onna76_NL @ Aug 6th 2008 2:48AM
I hope FFXIII on the 360 will bomb like hell, but probably don't like DMC4 didn't either.
