PSP software support way down, recovery is likely
We knew software support for the PSP was relatively dire but this chart says it all. According to Siliconera, who've compiled a comprehensive analysis of publisher support, 2006 was the peak while 2007 saw a huge decline. The top six contributing publishers to the PSP's software library have all taken a considerable dip in scheduled titles, but Siliconera also points out that 2008 is actually starting to curve upward.
Does that mean we're on the cusps of a healthy and steady recovery? Possibly, as games like Dissidia: Final Fantasy and LocoRoco 2 are on the way this year, and future titles like Resistance: Retribution and The 3rd Birthday are also on the way. The report is a very good read; we suggest you check out the whole thing at Siliconera for an in-depth look.

It has been troubling, the lack of recent games to choose from. But we should also consider that the DS has only had a couple hundred more titles to choose from since the start. Considering the huge amount of shovelware the DS has been getting, this is no mean feat! SO with the PSP doing so well in Japan. we can at least expect the software numbers to pick up again. It will happen. It better. They've been saying it for damn long enough.

The DS has been providing consistently high quality titles, unfortunately. There might be a mass of shovelware, but rare does a month go by where there isn't at least one DS game worth purchasing. The PSP cannot say the same.

kia, in contrast to the DS, the PSP has been providing consistently high quality titles too, see metacritic via score:
http://www.metacritic.com/games/psp/scores/
http://www.metacritic.com/games/ds/scores/
and for amount of titles view those in alphabetical order as only games with 5 or more reviews are listed in score view

I'm not worried.

Another point too. We had a peak in 2006. It takes 2-3 years to develop a top tier game as well. PSP came out on 04. I wouldn't be surprised if we see another peak in 09.

locoroco sucked ass.

Wow that put a lot forward into this, your personal opinion about one game was worthwhile for everyone to read. /sarcasm

Hypocritical douche bag.

Too many developers got burned when their PSP titles sold poorly. As a result many PSP developers drastically cut back their PSP support. I think 2009 will be much like this year. Sony botched the PS/3 and now they've managed to botch the PSP.
