BioShock: the PS3 trailer
In spite of previous reports that BioShock looks "no different" on PS3 than Xbox 360, IGN is claiming otherwise. They note that the water effects look better, and the texture work has been cleaned up. "It's quite obvious that 2K is taking full advantage of the PS3's Blu-ray discs to pack in cleaner high resolution textures for every facet of the game."
The new Survivor difficulty mode is wildly praised by the site; they go into much detail about how "every bullet counts" in this PS3-exclusive mode. From the sounds of it, it will be a nightmarish journey for those that want to pick up the game's Platinum Trophy.
Of course, you can judge for yourself. Check out this new trailer and see if this version of BioShock tickles your fancy.
[Thanks, Daniel!]

Ah well, time to go to read up on ign
Neon @ Aug 7th 2008 1:54PM
I bought this game for my PC and let me tell you...it is FUN! The story is great, the action is interesting. I am not sure if I am going to buy the PS3 version (maybe when it hits $20 used) since I already beat it on PC, but it is an awesome awesome game.
Devin @ Aug 7th 2008 11:11AM
Because of this "extra" effort to make my $ go further in terms of enhanced graphics, I may decide to get this. Will it support M+K?
Kenneth @ Aug 7th 2008 11:15AM
the only game that got me jealous 360 owners is finally coming! And with some nice water too. tis sexy
Nate @ Aug 7th 2008 12:31PM
Ditto. (well, and Mass Effect, and maybe one or two of their other RPGs, even if they are bad, at least they're something)
Mr.ESC @ Aug 7th 2008 2:24PM
Not much of a Pc gamer right Kenneth?
Um I would buy it again since it looks slightly improved and I really liked the game but the trailer is boring compared to the "Beyond the Sea" trailer for Pc and Xbox 360.
I guess is a rent or a buy if there is a LE deal since I never got a Big Daddy figurine and the Soundtrack is plain awesome, I beat Bioshock on hard in the xb360 and here it is a quick tip; you don't need other plasmids than Telekinesis and Freeze, plasmids like Electro ray and Incinerate are optional.
The survival mode sounds like the selling point since it was too easy but not for the plasmids but the fact the research camera was really cheap to the point you could beat Big daddies with a few hits of the wrench. Before getting the research camera the game is actually kind of difficult in hard.
(I never used a Vita chamber in Hard not even when the achievements were released.Saved game FTW)
Kenneth @ Aug 8th 2008 12:07AM
Graphics Design major, which basically means I'm mandatorily a Mac person now. bye, bye PC. I'm going to miss you for shooters
gamingeek @ Aug 7th 2008 11:12AM
Great game if you never played it. Not enough to warrant another purchase if you already own it.
LET THE DOUBLE POSTINGS COMMENCE!
erico316 @ Aug 7th 2008 11:45AM
this game is one of the last reason to buy a xbox 360.all that missing is mass effect and there will be no real reason to own a 360 and this is coming from a person who own one.
The_Punisher @ Aug 7th 2008 12:08PM
They don't need Mass Effect, they need BioWare. I love their games. Also, they need to terminate Micrososfgt money chute to Bungie and Epic Games. Thenn we're all good here :)
wolfehound22 @ Aug 7th 2008 12:59PM
Well I do agree in point I also like Gears and Gears 2. And possably 1 or 2 RPG's. But thats about it.
ChuckJ @ Aug 7th 2008 5:17PM
Yea because the PS3 has soooo many hit titles that make you just want to go out and get a PS3. Please.
the_culture @ Aug 7th 2008 11:24AM
I just wanted to know why 2K Games isn't releasing a Limited Edition for us PS3 owners. I want a Big Daddy!!
Paul Lach @ Aug 7th 2008 12:06PM
I bet you do!
gamingeek @ Aug 7th 2008 12:16PM
That just came out wrong.
chowley @ Aug 7th 2008 11:29AM
Great game if you never played it. Not enough to warrant another purchase if you already own it.
ryan @ Aug 7th 2008 11:31AM
is it possible to control this with keyboard and mouse?
also how many FPS games on PS3 can be controlled wit K&M setup? thanks~
Edge @ Aug 7th 2008 12:53PM
UT3 was KM compatable... and turned out to be a mountain of fail. The mouse control was poor and laggy. It felt like they artificially gimped it to allow controllers to compete.
It was fail because UT is a game designed specifically for PC controls. It was a bad port.
ryan @ Aug 7th 2008 1:17PM
hmm, that sucks. any others?
frankym @ Aug 7th 2008 11:44AM
This game should have been a PS3 exclusive from the beginning.
Desi_D @ Aug 7th 2008 12:03PM
That looks awesome! I played it on a fairly fast computer and I don't recall it looking this good.
ClockWyze @ Aug 7th 2008 12:08PM
That of course is your opinion but i have 2 disagree with u there. I would like 2 have GoW 1&2 on the ps3 I don't like Mass Effect at all The whole combat feels 2 stiff Also crackdown is good 2 Don't get me wrong i love my PS3 more than my 360 and i haven't even turned on my 360 in months(about 8), but there's other games that i prefer than mass effect.
I'm not sure if i'm going to get this games because i don't like playing scary games
I can watch scary movies all night but horror games is a nono lol
Kodros @ Aug 7th 2008 12:41PM
Seriously, use "to" instead of "2".
ClockWyze @ Aug 7th 2008 12:43PM
lol sorry but that's the way i'm accustomed to typing Not a good habit being that i work in the office but whatever lol
Bucket @ Aug 7th 2008 12:08PM
We get Bioshock, XBox gets Unreal. Fair trade.
Morpheus @ Aug 7th 2008 12:13PM
Bioshock is made with a custom version of the unreal engine.
Dr. Strangepork @ Aug 7th 2008 12:14PM
*head hurts* too many great games coming out for PS3, *ugh* must get second job to play all of them, *ouch* need more time too.
(It is a good time to be a PS3 owner)
the_culture @ Aug 7th 2008 12:38PM
No lie.
I'm currently playing Eden, Uncharted (for the Trophies), Siren, and Burnout Paradise.
Then we have must buys: Madden 09, BioShock, Project Origin, Pacific Rift, Dead Space, The Force Unleashed, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2.
And definitely keep an eye on: Midnight Club: LA, Saint's Row 2, Legendary, SOCOM, Buzz!, Quantum of Solace, Tomb Raider Underworld, The Last Remnant, Rise of the Argonauts, NBA 2K9.
Too many games, not enough time...
Brodie-san @ Aug 7th 2008 2:16PM

Thanks. I've had a lot of compliments on it this week. I like it because:
1) For people my age it is nostalgic
2) It is a nice tip of the hat to a great movie
3) It is kinda dirty but you can play it off as innocent.
I wish I could've secured it as my PSN ID.
iamkid @ Aug 7th 2008 12:17PM
this is looking really awesome. cant wait!!
KRIS_C_123 @ Aug 7th 2008 12:17PM
there are to many games i want for christmas i will leave it to the january sales
MrFr33z3 @ Aug 7th 2008 12:25PM
I cannot recall how many FPS titles I've played over the years, but there have been many. This is one of those titles that truly stands out from the rest. I played it on a high-end PC and it was a complete blast. One of those titles you can really get into.
I tend to purchase the PC version of an FPS title, merely due to the keyboard and mouse support and my inability to aim accurately with either of my thumbs. I agree with some of you here - If you haven't played through this one, it is a *must* try/buy. Some really original, albeit creepy, stuff in there. If I hadn't already played it on the PC, I would get it for my beloved PS3. However, at the next-gen game pricing, it just isn't worth the "extras" I'd receive.
Vincent @ Aug 7th 2008 12:40PM
Great game if you never played it. Not enough to warrant another purchase if you already own it.
Edge @ Aug 7th 2008 12:51PM
I really never appriciated the game, but there are some people who loved it. I thought it was a fairly static Doom 3 clone to me... just swap all the fire and brimstone for water and soggy clothes.
Just to be clear, not thrilled with the game, even when it was a 360 exclusive.
Drizzt @ Aug 7th 2008 1:01PM
Looking forward to this game indeed. Haven't had chance playing it on the PC, so gonna get it for the PS3. IMO they also should continue the SystemShock series. Only played the 2nd, but it blew my mind back then :)
Hotrod @ Aug 7th 2008 1:03PM
Wow, it does look like the graphics have been improved, and I noticed the frame rate was very smooth and consistent.
HAAS599 @ Aug 7th 2008 1:09PM
this game is going up against LBP in Oct. I think we know who will win that sales war.
Popfrogs @ Aug 7th 2008 3:19PM
Bah, sales war, they aren't competing titles. I think they'll both sell equally well.
HAAS599 @ Aug 7th 2008 4:48PM
are you saying Bioshock will sell as well as LBP?
its not gonna happen
I know they are totally different genres but if you can only get one game in October, its a no-brainer.
It would be smart to release Bioshock A.S.A.P. in October.
I will get Bioshock eventually, but I'll probably wait and get it used at Gamestop for 30-40 bucks or just rent it for the trophies.
PC-Max @ Aug 7th 2008 1:22PM
I played Bioshock on the PC and have to say it was overly hyped. The one thing I will give it is the atmosphere and theme is quite different to what is out there. I mean the special powers you get are in line, almost, with Star Wars games.
Bioshock takes the best of FPS games, action and story, and puts it together really well.
I am not knocking the game but for me it was a one time play game. Certainly levels were more fun and others I just wanted to get through and move on.
That said, with the Trophies, added content and new difficulty option..... I might be just buying this for the PS3... when the price comes down since I have played it before.
It is a good buy and hopefully one of the best FPS games to come out on the PS3 so far... Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 soon to follow.
Let's play!!!
reson8er @ Aug 7th 2008 1:28PM
I am so glad I held out (multiple times) on purchasing this for 360. My patience (and stubbornness) will be rewarded with what seems to be the definitive version (don't own a PC).
Day one purchase.
CrzyNick @ Aug 7th 2008 3:10PM
I'm not excited about this game at all because I hated it on xbox circle (360) so I will probably dislike it on ps3.
I'd rather get Lost Odyssey!
MattMN @ Aug 7th 2008 11:37PM
Not only do IGN think the game runs better on PS3 (plus better graphics, etc) but the *developers* think so as well. They were interviewed on X-Play a few weeks back and stated as such, saying "it looks better on the PS3".
Metoo @ Aug 7th 2008 11:41PM
I really enjoyed this on the 360; was kind of sad to see it end so soon. I will definitely rent it on the PS3.
Ihatebioshock @ Aug 8th 2008 3:02AM
My nickname says it all really. This was easily the most overhyped POS to appear in recent times. It was a complete let down except for some good 'atmosphere'. However gameplay was severely screwed, and it had bugs/glitches/lack of playtesting... essentially it was a F grade game dressed up (and hyped up) in AAA game clothing.
I know you won't believe me till you play it yourself, and many will actually like it, but don't get your hopes up until you see how damn repetitive and annoying the game is. Splicers are the most annoying and boring enemy in an FPS for some time (whack em on the head with a wrench over and over, watch the energy bars drop - it's like an arcade game not an immersive shooter).
I played it on a TOP PC, it looked ok, it ran ok - the widescreen was gimped as we all know - they patched it in the end (a trait of most Unreal engine 3 games that finally killed it's games off for me a previous loyal fan of Unreal/Epic engines).
Go in with low expectations and you'll probably enjoy it but it's not the second comming. Crysis was 20x the game this was.
PS3 version however does look to be the best yet, looks like they may have addressed a few issues and should be the definitive version. COntrol was gimped on PC (Mouse/kb) and actually felt better with an xbox pad which is just stupid for a PC FPS.
Random Hangman @ Aug 8th 2008 7:15AM
@ ihatebioshock...
I can't agree with any of that. Sounds to me like there was a problem either with the PC version or the machine you played it on.
I completed it on the 360, loved every second of it, saw no glitches or bugs and found that the atmosphere, visuals and sound were all breathtaking.
There have been very few games that I have played that I was genuinely disappointed when they came to an end but this was one of them. If I had the time to play it again, I would.
