SOCOM beta dated for September 1st

The other way of getting into the beta is to purchase the first episode of Qore. Doing so will allow you to download the beta client directly and play from September 8th until the 30th. This entire post is only relevant to Americans, though the official site does state that other territories will get acces and that this will be be announced by their representative SCE offices.

Awesome, finally a date.
wolfehound22 @ Aug 7th 2008 10:38AM
Nice I was just asking about this today. Although just like the Resistance beta Qore members have to wait an extra week to get in. It dosen't make sense to have to wait, but can not wait till the 8th. I will be glued to my PS3 when this is started.
Kodros @ Aug 7th 2008 12:48PM
They make you wait because someone pre-ordering their game is a lot more important to them then someone buying an episode of Qore.
sgt barone @ Aug 7th 2008 10:56AM
i wonder if they'll have enough time to make significant changes to the game with only a little over a month to do so.
papertiger201 @ Aug 7th 2008 11:36AM
Well, it might not give them time to make any changes by the time game releases, but it may be useful for what things might need to be updated by a patch right away.
I agree it doesn't make much sense to have a Beta so late in the development cycle (other than drumming up interest for the game of course). To be perfectly honest, this Beta is like what most Betas are these days, and that's a Demo.
wolf.e.jeremy @ Aug 7th 2008 11:26AM
does eb games count too?
drdre74 @ Aug 7th 2008 11:47AM
I've never played a socom game before. I tried the last psp game but didnt like that you dont control the characters only tell them where to go and give commands. I may give the beta a try if i buy qore.
Stellarpimp @ Aug 9th 2008 6:11PM
You can put $5 to reserve the game at Gamestop, get the beta voucher to try the game.
If you don't want to purchase the game on release transfer the $5 to a different game of your choice.
It's that simple.
Kspraydad @ Aug 9th 2008 8:40PM
Umm...when a game has 'tactics' in the title that tends to be the point.
TheSh0wstopper @ Aug 7th 2008 11:51AM
So I payed $25 for an annual subscription to Qore so that I can get in the Beta a week later and have a week less play time than people who drop $5 on a pre-order? well i'm pre-ordering regardless but just dont like this arrangement.

Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Aug 7th 2008 1:34PM
Dude, if you're paying $25 just to get into a beta... *shakes head*
The subscription gives you a lot more- all the normal Qore content including other beta invites, exclusive demos, etc...
chizad @ Aug 7th 2008 1:44PM
ummm...the website it tells you to go to (publicbeta.socom.com) - it routes you to a sony website that tells you the site you're trying to access is down. anyone?
TheSh0wstopper @ Aug 7th 2008 1:48PM
@Tez,
I never said that I subscribed "just" for the beta. However, I wouldnt mind a little preferential treatment for subscribers.

francisco @ Aug 7th 2008 1:55PM
that's lame for qore people having to wait a week >.>
francisco @ Aug 7th 2008 1:58PM
people that pre-order from gamestop can cancel their pre-order just to play the beta.
Lol not all the pre-order people will buy the game but only take advantage of the beta for free. I know because my friend done it before >.> kinda unfair but oh wellz 1 week is 1 week
George Sears @ Aug 7th 2008 2:05PM
I will be offering free heads shot to thoese who are interested. Offer is first come first serve. :)

I keep wavering between being excited and not caring at all. On one hand, online only stinks. I loved taking my time on SOCOM single-player missions (stealthy when appropriate, unleashing hell when appropriate). However I can't stand COD4 online (I know, I'm going to get flamed for this, big time), as it's way too frantic and doesn't lead itself to tactics at all (where as SOCOM online could be completely tactic driven when played cooperatively with friends in clans).
So... do I buy this just to get the same SOCOM online feel (despite the fact I barely get to play online due to my own schedule). And if so... why not wait for MAG, made by Zipper, the real deal in the name of SOCOM.

I'd have to agree about COD4, no strategy at all. Just a bunch of people running around and throwing grenades like chickens with their heads cut off. Its fun but it gets old and there is zero strategy. I hope this takes it back to the level of SOCOM II, where the team that worked together won and there really was intense competition even outside of clan play.
Nathan @ Aug 8th 2008 1:56AM
so i put 5 on it today and the girl didnt give me the said voucher. all i got was a receipt... same with resistance. should i go back or what?
Stellarpimp @ Aug 9th 2008 6:19PM
Naa...don't worry about it.
Matt @ Aug 25th 2008 8:44AM
So I just got the beta card yesterday from Game Stop, and have been trying the publicbeta.socom.com website but it just comes up blank. Any ideas?
