Another modder stuffs the PlayStation 3 into a laptop
Considering the size of this behemoth, weighing in at 15 pounds, we wouldn't really call it a laptop. Nevertheless, inspired by Ben Heck's PS3 laptop, another successful attempt at fitting the insides of a PS3 into a portable enclosure has surfaced. Specs are as follows:
[Via Engadget -- thanks, jimb!]
- 80GB SKU with 320GB HDD
- 17" 720p HDTV LCD Monitor
- Keyboard
- Built-in speakers with headphone jack
- Custom cooling (SilenX fans)
- Size: 16" x 10.5" x 4" (when closed)
- Weight: 15 pounds

I commented on that story when it was posted first on Engadget.
This unit is a screamer. It trounces what Mr. Ben Heck have built. although it's not as slim as Ben Heck's.
I'd love to have this unit if it ever went into production.
*sigh*
The curves of this PS3 laptop are killing me.
This thing shines like a Nokia 8800 Luna.
& It reminds me of JLo booties. *wipes saliva*
el sworodo @ Aug 11th 2008 12:03AM
with the size of the thing it just looks like he stuffed a ps3 into a box and put it in special casing.
uh-oh polio @ Aug 11th 2008 12:09AM
thats far from a laptop but good effort.
uh-oh polio @ Aug 11th 2008 12:11AM
I like how he also put the blu ray drive in upsidedown.
Kraden @ Aug 11th 2008 12:45AM
i wonder where i can buy mine? it like how it shines
snake79 @ Aug 11th 2008 12:57AM
Now why would he want to do that?
justsomeKAI @ Aug 11th 2008 1:01AM
Though i'd give it the "ben hecks was better" good job nonetheless.
I have to poke at the blu-ray drive since the disk needs to be inserted shiny part up :O

Wo. Easy tiger.

First, clean up your language. Second, the graphical differences of 720p vs 1080p are INDISTINGUISHABLE on displays less than 40" (might be 42") according to CNET. Last time I checked, 17" is less than 40", and why waste the money on 1080p when it would be impossible to tell any difference.
Also, while the idea of any (semi) portable PS3 is awesome, this laptop is nowhere near as cool-looking, slim, and charitable as Ben Heck's.

I have a 28" screen, and yes, there is a very very noticeable difference between 720 and 1080.
Heck, on my 19" monitor there is even a huge difference when I change resolutions in a game.
Nick @ Aug 11th 2008 1:26AM
1080p on such a small screen is pointless.
MikeHawk @ Aug 11th 2008 1:34AM
i wish these insults back and forth actually made sense.
regardless its a good attempt at the "psp3
kevin @ Aug 11th 2008 1:49AM
well squirtforce ur a moron most games dont even support 1080p and if they do its not even 1080p. u sir fail
seasidebaz @ Aug 11th 2008 3:17AM
Someone's been playing too much ForumWarz ;) lol
Anyway, 1080p is so 2008, 2400p is where it's at
anthonyjh @ Aug 11th 2008 3:21AM
Squirtforce, you are, by far, my most favorite person on the entire internet.
Arnon @ Aug 11th 2008 3:25AM
Seriously.. Hell I honestly don't care if it's 720p or 1080p with games.. Even on a large screen, there's very minor differences.
Arnon @ Aug 11th 2008 3:27AM
More like 4320p.. It's soooo coming with the new Holographic Versatile Disc(Which is actually real lol)
seasidebaz @ Aug 11th 2008 3:35AM
OK then, I was a couple of p's out, but at least this is closer to market ;)

Great effort, and a step in the right direction for modding's sake. I look forward to his second attempt.

Settle down, children
soundcircus @ Aug 11th 2008 9:52AM
My my theres some children leaving rather silly comments on here... Isnt there a moderator?
But yeah you would have thought the store would give the guy a PS3... after all thats what his g/f paid for.
soundcircus @ Aug 11th 2008 10:27AM
oops.... forget the last bit... different thread :/
schuyler @ Aug 11th 2008 4:49PM
funny my actual laptop is 15 lbs
Ty @ Aug 12th 2008 3:47AM
Too big, too ugly, too heavy, too pointless, too worthless, too lazy, too idiotic, too ignorant, too novice.
I'd rather have a laptop of tomorrow emulating PS3 games via software. The same way PCs have been emulating consoles for god knows how long. Just keep this on the down-low. We don't want big name companies supporting consoles more than they already are. That... its a real PS3 laptop. Not this frankenstein of a bad idea an unwilling already above satisfactory product.
ikebana @ Aug 12th 2008 7:58AM
This is a masterpiece in itself...Excellent I must say. I liked it soo much that I like to have more than one...One for me and other ones for X-Mas presents :-)
