Bionic Commando: Rearmed to get Trophies, Dead Rising hinted
Add one more to the growing list of Trophy-supported games. Capcom's Bionic Commando: Rearmed is coming out this week on the PSN, and while it won't support Trophies at launch, they will be patched in later at some point. For an idea of what the Trophies may look like, visit Xbox360Achievements.org to see the full list of Achievements. Looks like these Trophies may not be too difficult to get ... except for the one where you have to beat the game on Super Hard. Ouch! But that's not all -- Capcom's John Diamonon has been responding to every comment on the PS.blog and had this fun quip at a reader -- "You haven't seen the last of Dead Rising." ZOMG? Perhaps. But, as Diamonon wisely noted: "In general, it's always good to keep expectations low, lol, just so you don't get too dissapointed." Truer advice has never been spoken on the internet.

Just wondering whats the hold up for trophies. From what the Uncharted guys said trophies are pretty easy to put in and takes like a day or so to do. Why not patch it on launch? I think alot of people are going to hold out on buying the game right away and wait until the patch comes out. At least you wont have to do a uncharted and replay the game once its patched.

I read one of John Diamonon's post saying that they will try to make the trophies retroactive... Maybe thats whats taking time, or simply they are too busy wrapping up the game that they cant work on it now.... But as a plus there is the capcom PS3 surprise that should debut soon on www.capcom-unity.com... i have a feeling that it will be SSFHD beta... I hope so....

The Uncharted devs said it was easy for them because they created the game with Trophies in mind. They said it was trivial to implement since the "award" framework was already in the game.
For games without this type of framework, it's anywhere from easy to difficult to impossible to implement. The way I understand it, the game has to have a little routine that gets fired off when something specific happens and has to track events/statistics. Then it feeds that data to your PS3 (somewhere) and somehow it trickles upstream to the PSN. If that routine doesn't exist, it may be nontrivial to implement. Plus you have to have trophy criteria also.
Ultimately, to me it sounds simple, and I think every game should have it sooner or later. I know Sony has renegotiated contracts with some third party developers to make sure they include Trophy support in future games and even for some games currently in development.

My cousin was told by a Sony rep at a Gamestop a couple months back to "expect trophies for all games in the upcoming months". Now, how much of that was pure BS idk, but I hope he's right.
drdre74 @ Aug 11th 2008 11:05AM
Just seems that since all the games already have this stuff programed in for the 360 version they can just use that same framework to get trophies to work. But who knows Im not a dev so yeah you're right it could be something pretty hard to put in.

I guarantee you, we will have NOTHING retroactively from IW in terms of trophies. (actually, 402 has emphatically mentioned this on his blog).
Bockbockbock @ Aug 11th 2008 10:35AM
I think people are too hung up on trophies. What happened to playing games for the sake of enjoying the game itself.
If having trophies makes or breaks the deal on whether or not you will buy a game, you aren't a real gamer.
Popfrogs @ Aug 11th 2008 10:57AM
Eh, I think trophies add replay value and set goals for players. I know I started replaying Uncharted *just because it got trophies* and I'm not alone on this.
I agree that people that say "trophy-less games are deal breakers" are nimrods, but if that mentality is prevalent enough, every game will get trophies. That's a win in my book.
Devin @ Aug 11th 2008 11:01AM
It's more of a support thing. Game developers should show love for PS3, just as they do with achievements on 360. If they don't people take that as they don't like the PS3, or they haven't taken the extra effort to earn people's money.
Bockbockbock @ Aug 11th 2008 11:07AM
Yeah, I can see where you guys are coming from, for me it's not really that big of a deal at least not yet anyway. But I see how it could add replay value and it is good to see something else like this come to the PS3.
Just the whole no-trophies, deal breaker thing is just ridiculous to me.
DeforMAKulizer @ Aug 11th 2008 1:19PM
For me, trophies can force me to play game modes i wouldn't have even considered before... Take for example the 10x Multiplier in SSHD, i would have never forced myself to withstand "not dying" for the sake to reach 10x... Or even play bomber mode... Or collect all seeds in Eden... It makes the game challenging for the sake of rewarding you in the end... Come on, we all love that jingle the trophy makes =D
Devin @ Aug 11th 2008 3:49PM
"Come on, we all love that jingle the trophy makes"
Hell yeah I do!, but I also wish I could put in my own jingle (for when friends come over). Gotta have that Samuel L. Jackson yelling "Trophy MuhFuh*er!"
Mr.ESC @ Aug 11th 2008 10:53AM
Dead Rising HELLS yeah.
When I say I'll buy anything with zombies I'm not kidding I'll buy Dead Rising again but I really hope he means the sequel.
Devin @ Aug 11th 2008 11:03AM
yeah, it's gotta be a sequel. No way in he** would they put out the first one, only to have the 2nd one come out right after....
kentuckyfried @ Aug 11th 2008 4:31PM
Me too. I picked it up several months ago for the Xbox, if it comes out for ps3, all the more reason almost to unload the Xbox on Ebay.
smoky820 @ Aug 11th 2008 11:18AM
did the say dead rising on the ps3? if not they may have just been speaking of the wii version
koehler83 @ Aug 11th 2008 12:44PM
Save! I was all set to get this on XBLA because Achievements are better than nothing. But Remote Play and Trohpies kicks the ass of Achievements.
Waqman @ Aug 11th 2008 2:42PM
Eh. With or without trophies I'm still getting this game on thursday.
gamingeek @ Aug 11th 2008 3:45PM
I am so owning this when it drops on Thursday!
I'm more excited about it than half of the other big releases coming out this year.
Retro RULZ!

The developers will all add trophies.
I think trophies / achievements are a simple to implement, especially if you do them from the start.
It is good for the devs and the platform owners, because with some of them hard / time consuming to get you will likely have a good few left over, making the game not 100% complete, so you are less likely to trade.
It won't affect everyone that way, but I think a lot of people will be less likely to trade a game that isn't 100% complete.
