Braid may come to PSN after the end of 'timed exclusivity'
There's one downloadable game that's been the talk of everyone in the industry lately: PixelJunk Eden Braid. Unfortunately, PS3 owners are currently unable to try the XBLA game that has gripped so many gamers. The puzzle-platform game has been praised by critics for its innovative and satisfying puzzles which involve the manipulation of time.
According to GameFocus, Braid may arrive on PSN later on, once a timed exclusivity contract with Microsoft is finished. Johnathan Blow, developer of the game, also added that while a PSN version is possible, a WiiWare version is not, due to the system's limited memory resources. Hopefully, with enough fanfare from PS3 owners, we'll be able to see Braid on our system in the not-too-distant future.
[Thanks, Gambit07!]

Its also available on PC at some point if your interested.
Lars @ Aug 11th 2008 8:55PM
Yes and the PC version has extra content that he wanted to add to the XBLA version but could not due to the restrictive nature of the XBLA requirements.
Which makes me ask the question, will the PS3 version be a port of the PC version, the XBLA version, or something else entirely?
duckhunt8 @ Aug 11th 2008 10:39PM
PSN has very few restrictions, and none when it comes to size. If Braid does make the transfer, you can bet it'll be updated, if he wants to add to it that is.
JaseH @ Aug 11th 2008 6:40PM
It looks interesting... but that rewind, forward, rewind motion got sooo repetitive & annoying after a while.
The music didn't make it any better, either.

boy, those grapes look real sour don't they?
JaseH @ Aug 11th 2008 8:03PM
Almost as sour as this entire game.

this is terrible news. PSN doesn't need this garbage.

A sour douche at that...

gee can anyone say load runner..... what a rip off
mixel @ Aug 11th 2008 8:18PM
Can anyone say absolutely NOTHING like?
Lars @ Aug 12th 2008 12:57PM
LOL, Lode Runner? More like Viewtiful Joe meets Lode Runner, maybe.
Braid is awesome though. Can't wait till it comes to PC or PSN. My only gripe is the art style. I wish it looked a bit more polished and sharp. Take a cue from PixelJunk... it doesn't have to be 3D or have really detailed graphics to look good.
Lars @ Aug 13th 2008 3:15PM
I just finished it... gotta say that last level was brilliant! It's one of those games that everyone should experience.
When it comes to the PSN I'm definitely gonna buy it, even though I've already beaten it.
Vii @ Aug 11th 2008 6:43PM
I'm not sure how I feel about all these games jumping from 360 to PS3. Its all just a money making venture in the end analysis. Still I wouldn't be adverse to picking up Geometry Wars when it finally 'crosses the pond' to PSN. Plus with the reviews that Braid has been getting I must admit I am curious to try it out.
meatee @ Aug 11th 2008 7:24PM
Everything in gaming boils down to being a "money making venture", so its not surprising. Game publishers aren't in this industry just for 'love of the game'.
Gambit07 @ Aug 11th 2008 6:43PM
I'm surprised the reviews for this game are so good, it just looks like a generic platformer with time manipulation, I guess I'll wait and see.
Se7enwolf @ Aug 11th 2008 6:46PM
so its a lord of the rings version of Donkey Kong. whoopdie doo.
Arnon @ Aug 11th 2008 6:53PM
Rofl.. you guys hating on this game make me laugh. "OH THIS GAME IS A RIPOFF!" CoD4 is a ripoff.. KZ2 is a ripoff.. Halo is a ripoff.. Everything is a branch of a genre.. And honestly? Braid takes the time manipulation to another level. When you get to the part where walking forward moves time forwards, and backwards moves time backwards, your brain has to start to kick in.
Roto13 @ Aug 11th 2008 7:21PM
God, seriously. >_> If it was a PSN exclusive, these comments would be filled with "OMG BEST GAEM EVAR!!!!"
From what I've seen and heard, it's really cool. And apparently the ending is awesome. :P
Arnon @ Aug 11th 2008 7:43PM
Dude.. you have no idea. This game is truly an experience no one should miss.
matjet @ Aug 11th 2008 7:54PM
i would have to disagree with both of you.
whether or not this comes to psn, if braid is the best game on xbla then i feel sorry for the poor selection of games that must be under it.
Arnon @ Aug 11th 2008 8:16PM
Have you played it? Honestly, you haven't experienced innovation until you've played this..
"then i feel sorry for the poor selection of games that must be under it."
-people like this need to be removed.. I doubt they've even played the game let alone seen the later levels(Which is what defines this game).
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 11th 2008 9:07PM
When you have 'flower', 'fat princess', 'wipeout hd', 'warhawk', 'flow', 'calling all cars', 'PAIN', 'Elefunk', 'Siren', 'Pixel Junk Monsters' etc etc etc, I don't blame them for thinking this way.
I've got Braid on my 360 and while its easily the best thing I've played on XBLA and a great innovative experience, it will have a tough time being the best on PSN, in fact it will be 1 of the best but far from being the most important game you download to your PS3.
MakaiOokami @ Aug 11th 2008 11:11PM
I seriously don't understand the concept of it's greatness.. it looks like prince of persia and Donkey Kong combined with Gaia Online fat chibis.
I'm not dissing it just what it looks like. I really hope we get custom soundtracks on it or I may not buy it. Not that I don't like music like that, I find it has a time and place for everything and that game just... doesn't seem like the right time or place.
Some people are saying "Every game is a rip-off of soemthing else"
Well technically Little Big Planet really only takes slight cues from the basic genre but redefines it. Yes this game is unique, but... I haven't seen anything of interest yet. I think they just did a really crappy job of trying to sell this game through this trailer. I might check other trailers because this trailer didn't do crap for me.
Oh and Pixel Junk Eden is completely unique. There is no experience like it, if you can find one you've played some crazy games. It's not that I don't like the idea of this game, it's that my room mate hates his 360 and wants to sell it and unless it comes to PS3 I won't have a single reason to buy the game because I don't want a 360 much more than he does. I do want one... kinda... but... at a lower price piont. Not the Arcade thing lower price point but lower HDD costs, and more memory and well.. the 360 just isn't really for me so I probably won't get this game EXCEPT possibly for PC but I'd perfer PS3.
The less money I can give microsoft the happier I am.
Arnon @ Aug 12th 2008 3:20AM
Prince of Persia? Prince of Persia used it's time features ONLY for when you died.. this game revolves around it. I have found a game as innovative as Pixel Junk Eden.. it's called Braid, and when you judge a game that you haven't even played, you pretty much contradict your entire comment. Do you honestly like depriving yourself of entertainment if a certain thing is not exclusive?
Hala Madrid!! (Madrileno hasta la muerte!) @ Aug 11th 2008 7:00PM
"Hopefully, with enough fanfare from PS3 owners, we'll be able to see Braid on our system in the not-too-distant future"
NOPE! buy a 360. :p
Invisible Robot Meat @ Aug 11th 2008 10:42PM
Nope!
Popfrogs @ Aug 12th 2008 10:35AM
If they were reliable I would have bought one a long time ago. But these days I'm running out of reasons to want one.
bkalasin @ Aug 11th 2008 7:02PM
I welcome any and all good games. To hell with allegiences to this multi-million dollar complany over that multi-million dollar company. According to MetaCritic, this is supposed to be a phenomonal game. Bring it on please.
Andrew Yoon @ Aug 11th 2008 7:31PM
Exactly.
Popfrogs @ Aug 12th 2008 2:20PM
I agree, I'll get it on PC.
InfraredChimera @ Aug 11th 2008 7:27PM
PS3 owners should pray for this to come out over PSN. I shit you guys not, this game is easily one of the best downloadable titles over PSN, XBLA, and WiiWare. Unless you have played the game and didn't like it, fair enough, but to say its crap and haven't played it, then get bent.
"It looks interesting... but that rewind, forward, rewind motion got sooo repetitive & annoying after a while."
The time powers don't get boring at all. They're used very cleverly withing the puzzles in the game.
"gee can anyone say load runner..... what a rip off"
There's no digging and you can jump. Ignorance is bliss ain't it?
Trust me, you guys WANT THIS ON PSN!
Senecal @ Aug 11th 2008 7:48PM
I played it(demo), it's an interesting concept for a game, but it seem to me that he ripped off a few games when he made this one.
Arnon @ Aug 11th 2008 8:17PM
Why does it matter if it has ideas from other games? That means every game in history has been a ripoff (considering they all use ideas).
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 11th 2008 9:10PM
Like I said before, its a superb game, but then, PSN has lots of superb, colourful, addictive and innovative games of its own as it is. This will be 'another' title to enter the list, not 'the' title.
chris.westermann @ Aug 11th 2008 7:19PM
Honestly...they can keep it. But I read today about how limiting the XBLA was for the makers of Braid and I would hope that if they did bring this game to the PS3 they might actually make it look good without any limitations.
sgt barone @ Aug 11th 2008 7:59PM
yea. thats cuz when they made it, the limit on the XBLA was 150 MB. since then, the limit is now at 350 MB. so, games will be alot better off now.
turkeybaster @ Aug 15th 2008 11:10AM
Come on, have you even played the game? It looks like a watercolor painting come to life. For the life of me I cannot understand why people hate this game. It's one of those games that just gives you a huge dumb grin when you play it and figure things out. It's rewarding! Much more so than playing generic shooter 22.
Gotham @ Aug 11th 2008 8:20PM
PSN has a lot of innovative titles like pain and flower. I don't think getting this would really make that big of a deal when there are much better games.
Mike @ Aug 11th 2008 7:36PM
Its a fun game but I feel it was definitely too short.
For 1200 points I'm either a genius or I got gyped. The game only took me ~2 hours to beat =(
petrosky @ Aug 11th 2008 7:37PM
Another "timed" exclusive. Good lord. Microsoft just buys everyone and everything.
Otsego_Undead @ Aug 11th 2008 7:41PM
meh. played the demo. not impressed. ill go back to PJ Eden thanks.
elephant_stone @ Aug 11th 2008 8:10PM
Looks....wierd
Senecal @ Aug 11th 2008 7:49PM
But it still not worth $15 bucks to me...
Arnon @ Aug 11th 2008 8:28PM
What's worth $15?
Senecal @ Aug 11th 2008 9:00PM
I meant to reply to another comment... but BRAID is not worth $15 to me.
matjet @ Aug 12th 2008 7:12AM
Ratchet & Clank: Quest For Booty.
prince of persia used time control for if you took a heavy hit or you missed a jump and fell down or otherwise made a (not necessarilly fatal) mistake to rewind time as long as you held down the button. it also allowed the player slow down time, therby making it easier to react to traps and enemies.
Arnon @ Aug 12th 2008 2:30PM
Exactly.. Prince of Persia used it's time mechanics for when you died. How long is Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty? And I honestly hate to say this, but that feels like a gimmick. They make you buy a $60 retail game that ends with a clfif-hanger, and then release the end for another $15 and 2.whatever gb.
koehler83 @ Aug 11th 2008 8:12PM
If Braid had been carried by Sony on the PSN it would have just been "Another lame PSN game that Sony fanboys overhype" anyway.
Like everything else, it can be a great game on Xbox, but on PlayStation its just some trash for fanboys. (ironic)
