Playboy calls Heavy Rain 'Best of E3'
Did those new screenshots of Heavy Rain impress you? Well, you haven't seen anything yet. Breaking the oath of secrecy journalists took at E3, Playboy proudly proclaims that this it-was-there-but-in-secret game of E3 took top honors, beating out other titles, including R2 and LittleBigPlanet. "I will simply say it's by far the most impressive thing I saw at E3," said Playboy's Scott Alexander. However, he notes that "Sony ninjas will hit me with poison shurikens before I can type the words to describe it," Guess we're not going to get details out of him.
While we're certain the public will see more of Heavy Rain in the coming weeks, it appears the game may be very far off into the future -- "This isn't coming for a while yet," Alexander added.

Yikes, I almost clicked the image thinking I could get a nice high rez picture before realizing that it would have taken me to Playboy's website. I don't think the boss would have liked that.
SleeplessKn1ght @ Aug 11th 2008 12:48PM
But he's ok with you perusing PS3Fanboy at work? :)
Woz @ Aug 11th 2008 12:56PM
"she" might find pornographic materials offensive. Video game related stuff is usually safe.
Eric E @ Aug 11th 2008 2:44PM
well 5 of the top 10 are PS3 Exclusives (Heavy Rain, LBP, Fl0wer, Eden, Resistance 2)
Fable and Left 4 dead were MS exclusive
Then we split Star Wars and Fall out 3
... and then there was spore.
Jerses @ Aug 11th 2008 10:38AM
dont worry i still lbp, re5, resistance 2, silent hill (:P if reviews are good), and ffxiii. you have like 1 year to realease this...because i dont know what will come next after this.
Duke @ Aug 11th 2008 1:09PM
Oh yay, lists...
bambino @ Aug 11th 2008 10:42AM
The PS3 if finally coming into its own. 2008 and beyond = PS3's time to shine.
Kieran @ Aug 11th 2008 2:31PM
Yeah the link is NSFW obviously. I almost clicked as well.
Devin @ Aug 11th 2008 10:56AM
Hopefully the wait is well worth it on this. The graphics alone are really going to help separate the PS3 experience from the 360's.
The_Doctor @ Aug 11th 2008 11:07AM
hmmm Playboy... it's the first place I go for "gaming"
Devin @ Aug 11th 2008 11:19AM
Yeah. The articles are great.
halebound00 @ Aug 11th 2008 11:26AM
While the articles are great, it's really the pictures that are titillating.
Devin @ Aug 11th 2008 11:33AM
@hale
That...was awesome...
leiwei @ Aug 11th 2008 11:33AM
Being a regular subscriber to PB mag, I'm surprised at the # of PS3 titles on their list. From what I've experienced, PB has a fair amount of 360 adverts on it and not so much of Sony's machine. Not to mean they have any beef against either competitor, but they did indeed praise the 360 mooooonths back for it being the cheaper hardware and having the larger library of games (no duh here months back). I'm going to guess that the PB Editors are just like any regular casual guy gamer here... the ones that head to where the games [and tech] are.
Bucket @ Aug 11th 2008 12:06PM
Sorry, I really wasn't impressed by the screenshots. Bloom, sepia tone and water particle effects from 2005 add up to big disappointment.
I really hope they can regain their focus.
Devin @ Aug 11th 2008 12:49PM
Unimpressed? What were you expecting? What other games look better than this? Have you seen the high-resolution images?
Popfrogs @ Aug 11th 2008 1:01PM
Regain their focus? The detail in the character's faces alone is ground breaking. I have a nice plate of crow I can warm up for you when this game hits shelves.
Arnon @ Aug 11th 2008 1:36PM
Sorry.. and saying things like this will always just end up as "Are you serious?", but Far Cry 2 and Alan Wake are the games that are setting the graphics standard.. I still have no idea what this game is even about let alone what you do in it.
duckhunt8 @ Aug 11th 2008 2:15PM
Alan Wake looked great when it was announced. No more. Far Cry looks good too, but you can't deny that this game looks impressive, just because you don't know what it's about.
It's like saying "Crysis looks terrible because I totally have no idea what the story is."
Devin @ Aug 11th 2008 2:34PM
@Arnon
Far Cry 2 does like amazing, but look at the faces on this game; you don't see that in Far Cry 2. Alan Wake, from what I've seen will a graphical powerhouse, but just like Heavy Rain, I still haven't seen enough of it either to say that I'm "unimpressed" with it. Also, Alan Wake has only been shown off on uber PC rigs so far, right? Have they showcased it on 360 yet to show off what it will look like?
leatherface @ Aug 11th 2008 4:49PM
don't you trust playboy. have you ever seen their taste in women.
Arnon @ Aug 11th 2008 4:39PM
Oh, I'm not saying this game looks bad.. I think it looks excellent. I have no doubt in my mind it will do well. I think the faces are what stand out the most in this game.. environment wise, I'd have to go with Alan Wake & Far Cry 2
Devin @ Aug 11th 2008 4:49PM
@Arnon
As of now, what you said is correct, but also keep in mind: they've only showed how much of the game to the public so far? A couple trailers from E3 2006 and a couple screenshots, right? Hopefully we'll see more at Leipzig that makes us salivate. The handful of screenshots were too dark w/ blur effect to really get a feel for the environments imo.
finelicker @ Aug 11th 2008 3:15PM
Well, so far all the people praising this title are not what I'd class as 'gamers', so the BBC journalist said its the best thing ever, but what the hell does some journalist know? Then there's playboy, sorry, but unless the game is full of softcore smut, who are they to judge what is good, and what is not?
Neuromancer @ Aug 11th 2008 3:14PM
I wouldn't tout this as the next coming until we know more about the game, or god forbid, get to play it for ourselves. Indigo Prophecy started off great but turned batshit fucking insane by the end.
Also I know this is PS3 site but whats with all the anti-360 sentiment, it's a good system too (I have both). So far I have yet to see anything the PS3 can do much better, graphically speaking anyway.
Popfrogs @ Aug 11th 2008 3:43PM
What anti-360 sentiment? Are you reading something I'm not?
Devin @ Aug 11th 2008 3:45PM
How far are we into PS3's lifespan? Heard of Rage or FFXIII? For example, 360 can't handle them (from a storage standpoint), but that's what happens when you start earlier and at a cheaper price point. Most people, like myself, don't try and "hate" on 360, but more reiterate what it offers/doesn't offer that PS3 does. Secondly, should I remind you what site you are on? Expect it and you won't be bothered.
Hyams @ Aug 11th 2008 9:05PM
Heavy Rain won't have the supernatural elements that Indigo Prophecy had. So no need to worry about it going batshit insane. =)
Niko @ Aug 11th 2008 1:15PM
2009, eh? Kinda disappointed by that... Seriously though, 2009 is shaping up to be ridiculous.
Gambit07 @ Aug 11th 2008 1:43PM
I think all will be revealed at Leipzing, well a trailer at least.
WeaZe @ Aug 11th 2008 1:52PM
Who cares what Playboy has to say in the first place. Don't get me wrong the game looks cool. Hell I'm even going to school for game design, but who honestly cares what playboy has to say about video games. Who died and made them a major part of the gaming community?
duckhunt8 @ Aug 11th 2008 2:17PM
Who cares what anybody says in that case?
Nobody has said anything about Heavy Rain lately except Ngai Croal, and this just reinforces what we've all heard about the game from E3's showing.
ryan @ Aug 11th 2008 4:58PM
This game has the best looking faces ever!
MetalGearsOfSolidWar @ Aug 12th 2008 9:13AM
Far Cry is standard graphics
Alan Wake is fricking awesome but you gotta admit Heavy Rain looks slightly very very slightly better. And we've never seen the environment of Heavy Rain that much so that opinion is bs for now.
