Street Fighter Alpha hits PSN this Thursday

Most of us know that there are so few PS One titles on the North American PS Store and we're all wondering when the next wave of PS One games would be coming. While this isn't particularly a 'wave' per se (insert Hadouken jokes here), it is quite a powerful title with a lot of influence in the fighting-genre arena. We're talking about Street Fighter Alpha -- the first one. It was a title that prequeled the main Street Fighter series, fleshing out some of the world warriors' back stories.

If you missed it back in the day, then your chance to give the classic a try is coming. This Thursday, during the weekly scheduled PS Store update, Street Fighter Alpha will be available for download onto your PS3 or your PSP. Capcom hasn't officially revealed the price yet, but we imagine it shouldn't be much different from other PS One classics. Update: It will be $5.99.

Glad to see more games on the PSN. For me personally though, I can't play fighting games without an online component. They get old way too fast.

Getting somewhere... about 150 more and we'll be caught up with Japan's massive collection of PS1 games on the PSN. At least there's some more support from Capcom recently.

I'm guessing it wasn't Alpha 2 or 3 because they'll be releasing those later... after we've all bought the first one.

It's like how when Blu-ray and HD DVD started, a slew of lame movies came out first... because they know that's the only time they'll sell.

Street Fighter Alpha 1 for sale all by itself is the only time it'll sell.

...or this is the only SFA we'll get.

I'm buyin' it though.

I was kinda hoping it was a Street Fighter 4 demo or Street Fighter HD demo. Ah well....I have every version of this game already since I own a sega saturn and psone. All the sega saturn 2-D fighting games are the best.

In fact I think I have every 2-D fighting game...whoohooo!

It'd be good other than the fact that I have Street Fighter Alpha Anthology. I'd much rather see a game like Silent Hill on the PSN, perhaps in preparation for Silent Hill: Homecoming.

2008 is almost gone and there isnt much to show for it other than mgs4 and SC4.

ONE DAY that 600+ $ machine will be worth a good dusting. until then.....no thanks; money's tight right now.

obviously its not over yet. still 4 months left. what i mean is 8 months have past since the beginning of this year. and a 14 months since i bought my ps3.

i have a hand full of games. games that i didnt necessarily want but out of sheer desperation to play a game i bought. out of my 8 games only 2 were a must buy.

Nothing on the PSN has gotten me excited. everything has been pixlejunk. all games that look similar to games that i have palyed on miniclips . com.

yea iam a little frustrated with the situation. i did expect more when i let so much money go. but it only seems to be a waiting game.

Also, if you bought your PS3 14 months ago, shouldn't it have been one of the $499 60GB's? or were they not available at the time?

I got my ps3 at brandsmart usa. i got my 60gb ps3, two controls, motorstorm, and sonic for $620 after tax. the price cut was a couple weeks after.

as of right now. I have Skate, Jericho, Metal Gear 4, Drakes Fortune, Assassins Creed, Grand theft auto 4 and SC4.

I want to check out little big planet, silent hill 5, resident evil 5, infamous, skate 2, heavy rain, FF versus, fallout 3, tomb raider underworld, and a couple other that i cant remember now.
