No US Siren: Blood Curse Blu-ray release 'at this time'
Holding out on downloading Siren: Blood Curse in hopes of a Blu-ray release? If you are in the US, don't bother. Sony has spoken to MTV Multiplayer, reiterating that there are no plans for a North American release on of Siren in disc form "at this time." The Sony representative reminds us that "you are able to delete and then re-download episodes since the purchase is linked to your PSN account. The developers kept this functionality in mind knowing that the episodes were fairly beefy."
MTV speculates that Sony may simply be testing the waters in terms of Siren's sales before releasing a retail version. Either way, if you really want the game on Blu-ray, you can always just import it from Europe.

I think the main issue has to do with the first Siren did pretty bad in retail I believe (I remember seeing it heavily discounted quickly), and SCEA just doesn't want to have to deal with having copies in retail. Also, I believe SCEA wants to charge $40 for it, but if there was a retail copy, they could not charge anymore for the retail copy since retailers are very sensitive over the issue in the U.S. (which explains why movie downloads aren't any cheaper to download than buy). Stores are there to sell stuff and if SCEA was selling cheaper, that could hurt relationships. I figure Siren's sales caused Siren 2 to be Europe and Japan only. If Siren: Blood Curse was just a blu-ray disc, I could see it never coming stateside in the first place.

Wow dude your post makes no sense at all.
First of all people that judge a game based on how a previous game played out are stupid when it comes to this generation of gaming. That would be like saying "Oh I loved Devil May Cry 1, but hated Devil May Cry 2, so number 3 and 4 must be absolute crap"
Or if you'd like a better example it'd be like playing the first Diablo and saying "Pixel Junk Racers was terrible so I'm never going to buy a Pixel Junk product ever" I mean you can't judge a game that came out 4 years ago to the quality of a product now a days. It's retarded.
Second of all Warhawk completely contradicts your other theory in entirety. Warhawk was 60 dollars and a headset at retail but 40 dollars online. Not only that but the game is a BUDGET TITLE. Retailers aren't going to sell the game for 60 dollars because they wouldn't have to. Have you never heard of a BUDGET TITLE before?
Your comment on the video downloads seems fairly misguided as well. 10 dollars for SD is cheaper than a lot of movies. 15 dollars is cheaper than just about every blu-ray out there unless it's used and possibly on sale. Which makes your argument fail even more. Not to mention on the Anime side Burst Angel is originally like 80 something dollars and you can get it for like half the price.
I'm pretty sure that the companies that give the O.K. to release the titles set the prices NOT Sony whether it's a gaming company or the makers. So that just means your pricing arguments are complete and utter fabricated BULLSHIT.
Final argument is this. Sony said quite a while ago that they most likely weren't going to release a Blu-Ray version in America because they wanted to test the downloads. You can't test to see if a game will get a lot of downloads... If you don't have a test that gets rid of other factors. If they see that most of the people on the PSN that have it when and bought the disc using play-asia or somewhere else online then they know it's a failure. If they see a LOT of people buying it on the PSN then they know that people seemed fairly accepting of it.
Sony is testing digital distrobution. Deal with it, give us some actual facts rather than pulling speculation which makes no sense out of your ass. What you said makes no sense and seems to be mostly just a bunch of misconceptions because you don't pay much attention to the industry.

If I wasnt such a panzy, I'd have no problem downloading this game. I can't argue the appeal of a physical medium, but I certainly enjoy the ability to launch into full titles directly from the XMB.
Unfortunately, Im a panzy and this game skeers me.
will @ Aug 13th 2008 11:22AM
same here. we'll only see more interesting titles if consumers support games on the system, and i love supporting PSN games as well.
however, i'm at work most days and i wouldn't consider playing this game at night. it skeers me too.

This is why I imported the Asian Blu-Ray... Full English Support and being PS3 region free... gotta love it! I'll never pay more than $10 for a Digital Download... sorry Sony.
Mana Knight @ Aug 13th 2008 9:44AM
Sony is aiming towards large downloads to differentiate themselves from the competition. I love that in many ways since I rather play a lengthy game than some short terrible game (some downloads which are short are great, like SSD HD, but I like Sony's plan for PSN much better than XBLA). I'm happy Siren was a $40 download, since I rather have that than a $60 disc (having everything on my HDD is nice). And if people feel $40 is too much, you CAN share the game with others.
Nick @ Aug 14th 2008 10:58AM
Hey man, it all goes to the same place anyhow...
Devin @ Aug 13th 2008 11:19AM
How do you share the game with others?
Ujn Hunter @ Aug 13th 2008 11:41AM
some people like it some people don't... i'd pick the $60 disc over the $40 download... i just prefer having physical media... not just 0's and 1's on my HDD. same reason I buy CD's & Vinyl then rip them to my HDD...
CLupula @ Aug 13th 2008 11:14AM
Downloaded it day one. Love it. I think it's a bit annoying that it had to be downloaded a chapter at a time, but still, it's a great game. I wish Sony had stuck to the episodic download schedule, myself, but I can see why, with the first two chapters being so short, that might've seemed like a bad idea. Still, I think it was the only way they could've released it here, considering the sales of the original. I'm glad they took the chance and did it. I just worry that all the people importing it ruined the sales and assured us no further U.S. Sirens.
Ujn Hunter @ Aug 13th 2008 11:43AM
i'm sure that is a problem... however it's not really my fault as Sony didn't offer me the option of getting it on disc... which I would have gladly bought the US disc over the Asian disc... I'll be importing R&C as well instead of buying the DL only version in the US...
reson8er @ Aug 13th 2008 3:45PM
You'd rather get the disc version of a 3-4 hour game, which in GBP + shipping will run you roughly 3x what it costs to d/l it off the US PSN? I am totally for buying the disc version when available, but for a game of this size (R&C) it seems a bit unnecessary.
Tim Parsons @ Aug 13th 2008 6:21PM
@ reson8er my Total Game time on the stats screen after beating the game with all Weapons & Archives found was 44hrs
,. though I think the invisable game timer is active at all times even while on the status screen or on the screen prior to starting a level cuz i can't see that whole 44hrs being all game time. 3-4hrs no way not without missing,.. Everything!
bugatti23007 @ Aug 13th 2008 9:49AM
I won't play it because I would have to pay using a credit card and my parents won't let me buy it.However if the PSN cards were available at local retailers I would buy it and my parents wouldn't know. Will there be trophies for this game?
reson8er @ Aug 13th 2008 10:33AM
Just picked this up (so to speak) last night on the PSN, d/l & installed 11/12 episodes.
I'm really looking forward to playing this tonight.
Dahk @ Aug 13th 2008 3:22PM
o.0 no bandwidth warning from your ISP? =(
I got mine not too long ago. GAH stupid Rogers.
Stupid PSN downloads take up SO much of my monthly limit.
reson8er @ Aug 13th 2008 4:16PM
Nope not at all lol.
I suppose Time Warner in NYC is good for something after all.
Tim Parsons @ Aug 13th 2008 6:16PM
LOL bandwidth warnings? Man I download 40GB & up 30GB an average Month
Tim Parsons @ Aug 13th 2008 6:08PM
Not interested in a more expensive Blu-Ray version, Plus i just beat it completely last night.
Ptrack_Git @ Aug 13th 2008 9:15PM
This game is really quite good, genuinely creepy, and if you don't want to buy the whole game you can try out the first 4 episodes for 15 bucks (which means the whole game will cost 5 dollars more total) that seems like a good thing to me.
To really enjoy it play one episode a night (or every other night, or once a week if you are patient, makes it more like a show) in the dark. It's supposed to be scary that's what makes it fun.
I'm sure I already posted something very similer to this already and I'm going to keep saying it until you all try this game. Encoureged PS3 exclusives, encourage episodic gaming, encoureged SURVIVAL horror not just brainless action games. Of course I will be getting RE5 and Dead Space... but lets get more stuff like the silent hill and the siren series where you have to run for your life!
Michael K. @ Aug 13th 2008 9:26PM
this sucks, I was excited to play this but I don't want it to eat up 9GB, so I guess this is a pass for me
tommysize @ Aug 14th 2008 1:56PM
the wording on the download confused me.in order to play this title you must have all 12 episodes.i was like "im not paying 47.96p " i thought i might need to download all 5 downloads to play it.......if 1 idiot thought that there must be others too. £5.99 and i would of payed for the convenience of smaller downloads. as it was i just got the first pack. didnt think much of the game but i liked the story. didnt want to buy the other 3 at the higher rate so i watched a walkthru on youtube. im so lonely........
