I played the demo in Remote Play yesterday, and it works quite well. The control is setup so that it's the same between the DS3 and the PSP. There's a tiny bit of lag, but not enough to detract from the gameplay at all.
Devin @ Aug 14th 2008 3:19PM
"With the DualShock's superior D-Pad, it's clear that the PS3 version of Bionic Commando is superior to the XBLA version."
Oh snap!
Nate @ Aug 14th 2008 3:28PM
If only I could use remote play when I'm on the bus or subway! I'd pay huge amounts of dough for that.
ryan @ Aug 14th 2008 3:39PM
oh? so how far away from the PS3 does remote play work? (i don't own a PSP).
Ishimaru @ Aug 14th 2008 4:00PM
It works via WiFi. So most trains and buses don't have wifi ;)
ryan @ Aug 14th 2008 4:11PM
ah,...then the PSP should be able to just download the entire game to it's memory. tho, wifi still works alright when you get to your destination i suppose.
reson8er @ Aug 14th 2008 3:33PM
It sucks in general yea, but is FAR superior to the 360 d-pad. I used to play FFXI on the 360 and can't count how many times that damned d-pad failed to register my commands.
At least the PS3's d-pad really gets the u/d/l/r directions perfect lol.
ryan @ Aug 14th 2008 3:36PM
did this to my 360 d-pad:
http://www.instructables.com/id/SGSS24CF9054337/
made it a bit better than the PS3 d-pad IMHO. feels like the old Sega Saturn d-pad (one of the very few good things from that burning ship).
still tho, the ability to play this on the PSP is pretty damn sweet. and THAT is the main reason why I think the PS3 version wins over the xbla/PC versions. :D
Devin @ Aug 14th 2008 3:46PM
Not everyone has the time/ability/care to do that, y'know.
ryan @ Aug 14th 2008 4:14PM
and not everybody can stand the default crappy 360 d-pad!
also it doesn't take that long to mod. you can even skip the sanding part. i'm just saying that the PS3 having a "better d-pad" shouldn't be a main reason why it's a "better version".

Devin @ Aug 14th 2008 4:46PM
For you, maybe not, but for people who (like I said above) haven't and will never do this mod it still is the best version to play on because of the D-pad being superior out-of-the-box on DS3 and for Remote Play included.
AlterEgo @ Aug 14th 2008 3:37PM
You're nuts.
drdre74 @ Aug 14th 2008 3:38PM
If only i could get remote play to damn work. I can use it at home just fine on the internet but as soon as i try and log on somewhere else it doesn't work. What's Up with that?
Popfrogs @ Aug 14th 2008 6:30PM
Leave your PS3 in remote play mode when you leave the house. That's the only way it'll work on mine. I can't even have my PS3 power up remotely from my PSP.
Don't know why but leaving it in RP mode always works.
drdre74 @ Aug 15th 2008 8:54AM
Yeah I tried that also. Still doesn't work. I opened up some ports on my router like i read online and still not working from work. Remote play is pretty much worthless to me if i can only play it at home.
batmanhill6157 @ Aug 14th 2008 3:41PM
awww man FTW
Now the store just needs to update so I can download it asap
Devin @ Aug 14th 2008 3:43PM
How does it suck? Please offer some kind of insight....
Phoenix8387 @ Aug 14th 2008 3:55PM
I was actually fairly disappointed with the remote play. It seemed VERY laggy to me, I even had graphics toned all the way down and there was still about a .5 second lag between button pushes and action.
alienclays @ Aug 14th 2008 6:21PM
lag depends on internet connection and how far you are.
in my house (like when i'm on the can) lag is almost non-existant on remote play, great for the bedroom to stream music or when nature calls and wont take a rain check.
if i'm away from home however,(like at the local starbucks) lag becomes an issue, music, good, video, tears up a bit, remote play games, just about always a bad idea and to laggy/studdering to play. in fact if it's really bad i won't be able to connect in the first place.
Invisible Robot Meat @ Aug 14th 2008 6:53PM
I've actually found that remote play lags less in my house when I connect via my netgear router rather than connecting directly through the PS3. Its sounds crazy but it makes a noticeable difference. Anyone else tried that?
jimb0c @ Aug 14th 2008 3:56PM
PS3 version has no screen tearing, better mixed audio, load times which are about twice as quick, and slightly better textures.
ryan @ Aug 14th 2008 4:14PM
oh? is this true? interesting...can you provide a comparison or link?
reson8er @ Aug 14th 2008 4:19PM
I can only speak for myself, but when I said it sucks its because there is no disc (or other plastic) in between the main u/d/l/r buttons. This makes pulling off crescent and half crescent moves (typical of fighting games) a real chore. You basically have to make your thumb hit 2(!) buttons instead of one.
Again, its not the best solution, but much more effective than the 360 version.
Phawx @ Aug 14th 2008 4:25PM
I prefer my 360 to the PS3. But I approve of the Dualshock D-pad. It is leagues better than any D-pad I have ever used.
Your analong sticks still suck though.
Lars @ Aug 14th 2008 4:31PM
I just can't get over the fact that the sticks aren't asymmetrical on the 360... drives me nuts. That's pretty much all that occupies my mind when I'm using that controller.
Phawx @ Aug 14th 2008 5:01PM
You mean they *are* asymmetrical on the 360. I know what you meant, but that's why I like them. Between how close the thumbs sticks and the convex form of them, function only to make me either bump my thumbs or lose grip on the analog stick for the PS3.
It may look awkward. But in practice the 360's analog stick placement is the best that a console controller will get at precise 3d movement. Only thing that trumps *looking* in a 3D environment is a mouse.
But even for making charecters either walk/jog/run just makes sense for the 'Movement' stick to be in that place.
ryan @ Aug 14th 2008 5:18PM
i totally agree about the analog sticks for 360. i don't know why the PS3 still hasn't a concave grip to them.
the Saturn Controller had the best d-pad, the PS3 still suffices tho. it's great for 2d games and fighting games, but not so much for shooters (no real triggers) and action games (like you said movement is better in the 360's Lstick position).
Lars @ Aug 14th 2008 4:29PM
What? The Sony D-Pad is the best I've ever used on any console! That's why I can't stand using 3rd party controllers, and instead bought adapters for my old Dualshocks.
Lars @ Aug 14th 2008 4:29PM
Sweetness. Gonna show this to my friend that's on the fence about getting a PS3... He does want specific games that are only on PS3, but he's also made comments like "what, you don't have to pay to get online?!" and "You can watch videos without dropping $50 on a video remote?!" and "You don't have to pay $100 for wireless?!"
He's starting to come around tot he fact that the PS3 is NOT the most expensive console out there to own.
Phawx @ Aug 14th 2008 5:02PM
You don't need a $50 remote to play videos on the 360. If anything you need a $50 Bluetooth adapter to be able to USE the ps3 FROM a remote.
Phawx @ Aug 14th 2008 5:08PM
Here's the link to your PS3 remote controller dongle:

PS3fanboys spreading their FUD. I can call it when I see it. Dualshock D-Pad is better than 360's D-pad, but man you guys have to make up some stuff.
Also the $100 wifi adapter is a complete rip off for the 360
Popfrogs @ Aug 14th 2008 6:34PM
@Phawx: Whew, thank god you're here to defend MS and set the record straight. Keep fighting the good fight, because someone on the internet just might care.
darthsim0065 @ Aug 14th 2008 5:48PM
d-pad??? get a life...gears of war gears of war...little big planet??????lol lol lol loll..
Ninjacrank @ Aug 15th 2008 12:50AM
lol lol lolllll lol lolll lolll lolll looll
LOL LOLLLLL LOLL
Wait, what are we laughing about?
sgt barone @ Aug 14th 2008 6:52PM
wow, PS3fanboy making comments fueling flame wars. typical.
sgt barone @ Aug 14th 2008 6:54PM
wow, this shows that PS3fanboy is very insecure about the PS3. they have to brag about how an arcade game is so superior, and bragging about a d-pad? wow. they have sooooo much to talk about.
Invisible Robot Meat @ Aug 14th 2008 7:04PM
Did you get lost, or are you waiting for your coffin?
Loo-hoo suh-herrr! :)
Haohmaru @ Aug 14th 2008 11:28PM
wow, this shows that MSfanboys is very insecure about their choice in console. they have to go onto PS3 fan sites to talk about how PS3 owners have to brag about how an arcade game is so superior, and bragging about a d-pad? wow. they have sooooo much to talk about.
Fixed your comment for you, "Sarge," but figured the errors in grammar and spelling were too hilarious to correct. Keep fighting the good fight! *salute*
Invisible Robot Meat @ Aug 14th 2008 6:58PM
Hey Phawx you don't *need* a separate remote to play videos on PS3, the sixaxis does pretty much everything you need. The remote just an accessory for convenience.
ryan @ Aug 14th 2008 9:50PM
he's talking about if you choose to use a remote control you need to use an extra peripheral to read it's signal whearas using a 360 remote you do not. the reader is already built into the system.
both controllers work fine for media playback tho.
Deuce @ Aug 15th 2008 10:26AM
@reson8er:
It's not two buttons. They're part of the same disc. Get over it.
