Final Fantasy Agito XIII to use Crisis Core's ATB system, will support Infrastructure
The revelation that Agito, the former Final Fantasy XIII cell phone game, was coming to the PSP was a nice revelation for many. Apparently, the developers were tired of waiting for cell phone tech to advance to the level they wanted for Agito. While details are far and few between, the latest issue of Famitsu PS3 (via FinalFantasyXIII.net) says that Agito will use an advanced version of Crisis Core's ATB system. Fans of the PSP-exclusive prequel should be familiar with the real-time battle system. However, unlike Crisis Core, players can look forward to controlling more than one character.
Another bonus is the addition of Infrastructure online play to Agito, a rarity for more Japanese-developed titles. Games with community aspects, such as Monster Hunter Portable and Phantasy Star Portable have opted to use Ad-Hoc multiplayer only. Although that hasn't hindered the popularity of either of these games, players across the Pacific understand that Infrastructure makes online play much more accessible. We approve.

Fapping in public is frowned upon! Go back to /b/. :P
Barndo111 @ Aug 16th 2008 11:30AM
I almost spit out my drink after reading that. Hilarious.
I'm blown away that a Japanese developer is making use of infrastructure. Also, the one complaint I have about Crisis Core was that you only control Zack. I REALLY wanted to control everyone he meets. It would've been awesome to control Angeal, Cloud and even better...Sephiroth. I'm really excited to see what Agito has in store.

Catholic school girls or atb? =/

"Agito on PSP will be SE's response to Monster Hunter and Phantasy Star Portable"
Vincent @ Aug 16th 2008 10:47AM
Comment came out incomplete. Wth
Anyways, what I was saying is that I said that quote as soon as they announced Agito for the PSP. And it's great to see they will take a step forward adding infrastructure online mode as well.

man, this is going to be awesome along with dissidia. just took a look at gamespot's hands on demo of dissidia, and it looks like SE is going to deliver on the psp. and these controls remind me of star ocean more than anything else (action rpg-ish)
daniel-kun @ Aug 16th 2008 11:24AM
NOOOOOOO please not that incredibly stupid ATB system! It makes fights completely random :-(
sucks
bryansurvive @ Aug 16th 2008 4:18PM
why not? isnt that the free battle form liek crisis core. i kinda get sick of the random battles with turn base rpg. they should at least make it to where you can see the enemy before starting a fight.
NinjaMaster @ Aug 16th 2008 5:09PM
I think you are mistaking ATB (active time battle I think) with DMW(digital mind wave). The ATB has been used since some of the early final fantasies, while the DMW is the random slot-reel which decided powerups, levels, etc. in CC.
bryansurvive @ Aug 16th 2008 7:19PM
ccool thanks alot. there so much info out there im not aware of.
daniel-kun @ Aug 17th 2008 2:54AM
Eh I thought DMW was part of ATB, but then again, this might be wrong. I really hope that DMW will be discarded forever. ATB, on the other hand, is quite cool
andwhyisit @ Aug 17th 2008 9:39PM
They said the ATB system used by crisis core. Not the DMW system. *facepalm*
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Aug 19th 2008 1:06AM
well thanks for clarifying cause that damn DMW is the reason my copy of Crisis Core has less than 10 hours on it. i hate that random slot machine. i dont know who could think that was a good idea. it takes alot of the strategy out of the fight.
overall though, i prefer Kingdom Hearts ATB system to Crisis Core's any day, DMW included or not.

hell yeah infrastructure?!?!?!?! THATS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!!
omgitsthepope @ Aug 16th 2008 1:40PM
not a fan of final fantasy but if its a solid game why ignore it? in other news omgitsthepope passed his driving test today :p Didn't miss any points on cones but barely passed the driving points missed the maximum :p

Congrats, I'm happy for you and also glad that you shared that news with us. Now if I ever need a lift, your the first person I'll call =D

I have a learner's permit, and I got it having missed most of the questions about identifying street signs. Some states (*cough*Florida*cough*) set the bar too low at the DMV. Lucky for everyone, my learner's permit is about to expire (which is good, because I'm 15 in the picture and damn near 25 in real life, and that gets awkward when I need to buy booze) and I've no intention of ever driving an automobile. So you're safe.
strike @ Aug 16th 2008 4:16PM
Well then, Im happy I don't live in Florida :)
strike @ Aug 16th 2008 4:17PM
Oh, and almost happy 25th birthday =D

I think having the main character use tarot cards is an original, but not very exciting, idea. This is definitely second on my wanted games list, after Dissidia. I think wikipedia said something about it being a MMOG.
NukeAssault @ Aug 16th 2008 2:17PM
Sweet didn't know agito was coming to PSP! I is excited!

is it just me, or does the group of people in that picture kinda look reminiscent of the turks? Maybe it's just me but any way..
SQUARE ENIX ROCKS!!!!!!

I'm madly in love with Crisis Core's battle system. There's just something so insane about having to have at least four battle plans just in case the slot machines do something weird.
When it comes to battle systems, let's have more Crisis Core, and less FFXII.
strike @ Aug 16th 2008 4:15PM
Actually, I prefered FFXII's system more, not that Crisis Cores is bad, I loved it, but XII is twice as good, in my opinion.
aj @ Aug 16th 2008 4:22PM
Actually, I really liked XII's system myself. But I hated the automation of it. If you take out the gambit system, then XII would be damned near perfect. I say this because I literally went through 10 hours of the game where I just didn't do anything. It was no fun to watch a game play itself after I paid for it, you know?
My only complaint with Crisis Core was the lack of a party (mostly because I wanted to have a fighter and a mage, instead of constantly re-configuring zack for every possible scenario), but they did turn out an AWESOME platform for an action game. I kind of harbour a secret desire to see some of the old action franchises like Gauntlet and Zelda experiment with a similar system just to shake things up.
MrEverdred01 @ Aug 16th 2008 4:52PM
Have they ever said which phones will support this game? If they have it for the iphone then I might get it for that instead of my PSP...
Jacksons @ Aug 16th 2008 5:56PM
I think they abandoned the cell phone version, I could be wrong.
Superstar90 @ Aug 17th 2008 12:37AM
All those characters look really cool, this is going to be an awesome game.
I'm glad that they let you choose your playable character though, I would rather play as anyone else instead of the one in the middle with the tarrot cards... compared the the two pistols, the bow, and the swords... card battling seems weaker lol. But we will see, I'll probably play the game 12 times anyways.
aj @ Aug 17th 2008 6:30AM
Maybe he throws the cards like Gambit? That would actually be cool.
ibetnoonehasthisname @ Aug 17th 2008 2:50PM
if this combat system is like Crisis Core's i only hope they address 1 problem: you are about to attack an enemy, but the enemy attacks you, knocks you down, and takes off a lot of health so you're in the red, Zack will get up and still run to attack when you really need to heal. that was the cause of so many deaths for me. Don't get me wrong, Crisis Core is a damn fine game (my personal favorite psp game) and I couldn't be more happy with square for having so much love for the psp and putting high quality games out for it (BBS, i'm looking at you!)
1.3.1.4 @ Aug 17th 2008 4:21PM
I agree that some of the best games have bad points to them and I wish they could be improved, but then again no games can be perfect.
manuel @ Aug 17th 2008 9:56PM
This game will be near perfection.
CJLopez @ Aug 18th 2008 2:29PM
So, we get schoolgirls, using guns, swords, lances, Whip swords ala Ivy (shame she won't be using a custome just like her, xDDDDD) and scythes....
I'M SO IN!!!!!!!!
Man, i just realised i'm a Final Fantasy whore and i'm proud of it!!!!! xDDDDDDDD
thisguyrighthere @ Aug 19th 2008 4:48PM
I really didn't like Crisis Core. It all seemed so unnecessary. You could just hack and slash your way through the entire thing. I only ran into trouble at the final boss' last form.
It felt more like God of War than like Final Fantasy and I wanted to play a Final Fantasy game not some mindless hack/slash with niche flashback/fanboy appeal. Which also disappointed me by the way.
