Final Fantasy XIII demo to be over 90 minutes long
The latest issue of Famitsu PS3 is all about the recent Square Enix DKΣ3713 event, and FinalFantasyXIII.net has a few juicy scans from the magazine. One of the more interesting things to point about the upcoming FFXIII demo bundled with Advent Children Complete: the demo will be on a separate Blu-ray disc (meaning it will unlikely be region locked), and the amount of gameplay is promised to be longer than the length of Advent Children. That means the FFXIII demo should be at least 90 minutes long, if not longer. That's huge! The demo will supposedly come from the very beginning of the game, so players won't have to worry about spoiling the later parts of the game.

damn, thats sure setting a new standard ! are you listening Ninja Theory ?
Senecal @ Aug 16th 2008 9:49AM
Why even work on a demo. Everyone will buy it without playing it first! It's just taking time away from the end product, and delaying it further. What a waste.
Vincent @ Aug 16th 2008 10:54AM
What? You realize a demo is not a different game right...? It's a natural process of developing the full game, it won't take any extra time.
CL34N3R @ Aug 16th 2008 10:58AM
Well no, actually, he has a point. Demos do take some development away from the game for a time. There have been several instances where a demo wasn't released for this very reason.
Gabriel @ Aug 16th 2008 11:10AM
actually, that isn't entirely true. Demo's totally take time out of development schedules. However, I guess you could make the argument that it depends on the developer. Apparently this looks like it was planned by square enix long ago. I just wanna take the time to point out that YAY! PS3 EXCLUSIVE DEMO!
Senecal @ Aug 16th 2008 11:15AM
A demo is worthless even if it doesn't take any more time. I dont wanna play around with a char. for an hour and a half that I later have to level up again, pfft.
Superleggera @ Aug 16th 2008 2:45PM
The Problem is... I think that Square Enix SUCKS... I hate close to everything they have ever done ever.... They RUINED The Final Fantasy series so far, and almost any other series they made as well... If the Demo's combat system sucks, Then.. The game sucks..
MakaiOokami @ Aug 18th 2008 7:10AM
See the point is this superlegger guy person. He hates Sqaure Enix. He's the perfect type of person for this Demo.
I still have a lot of questions about it and an hour and a half is great. See this sort of Demo is for people that realize we aren't going to get the game for a while and want to know that it's like.
Just for the sake of argument Pixel Junk Eden was probably anywhere from 30 minutes to 5 hours of demo.
j.howlett @ Aug 16th 2008 10:15AM
sounds fun. i'm trying to remember how long the ff8 demo was, i know it took me awhile, and that spider killed me the first time.
Tristan @ Aug 16th 2008 10:22AM
I bet people are gonna resale the demo for a ridiculous price.
Id take faster production of the full game than a demo.
Kenneth @ Aug 17th 2008 10:32AM
Can't charge more than the movie that comes with it. It's not like these will be rare
Phoenix @ Aug 16th 2008 10:52AM
They are packaging the demo with the movie Advent Children because they want more sales for the movie. They would never abandon the demo just to make production a little faster because they want money. This would justify why FF XII is not a pss3 exclusive anymore.
chris.westermann @ Aug 16th 2008 10:33AM
Well, had MGS4 offered a demo it might have been over 90 minutes long but then you only get to play 5 of those minutes and the rest would be cutscenes. I would wait before we rave about how long this demo is, Final Fantasy games are usually known for having a long intro into the game where there is little actual gameplay.
CL34N3R @ Aug 16th 2008 11:01AM
Well said sir, I was thinking the exact same thing. At least it's squenix and not kojima, they don't get quite so ridiculous with the cutscenes.
Popfrogs @ Aug 16th 2008 3:28PM
Yeah Squeenix isn't as ridiculous with the cutscenes because the stories are weaker.
Roto13 @ Aug 16th 2008 1:22PM
Yeah, that's what I was thinking, too. At least 30 minutes of that (optimistically) will probably be cutscenes.
kentuckyfried @ Aug 16th 2008 9:40PM
That's not true; they could've offered a demo or part of act 1 with minimal number of cut-scenes, and it would've been good.
Goity @ Aug 16th 2008 10:47AM
PS3Fanboy... that screenshot is from Versus XIII, not FFXIII.
ryan @ Aug 16th 2008 3:20PM
awww, i liked the FFXIII vs. pic better than seeing Lightning's armpit! lol
ultima_omega @ Aug 17th 2008 7:51AM
No it isn't
Goity @ Aug 19th 2008 9:34AM
...because they changed it to an FFXIII pic.
mat parker @ Aug 16th 2008 10:50AM
I suspect the XBLM and PSN will see this demo as a download eventually as well
Vincent @ Aug 16th 2008 10:55AM
From what I can see in one of the scans, one important thing to notice is that Lightning actually DOES shave her armpits.
MGOSW @ Aug 16th 2008 11:13AM
Dude I would like to see it on XBLM also but the 360 version hasn't even started development yet. This is packaged with a Blu-Ray disc. FFXIII is exclusive to PS3 in Japan and so is the Advent Children Blu-Ray+Demo. It would be nice to see it on XBLM so we can compare the two, even though i'm sure the PS3 version already won. I doubt the Blu-Ray AC will hit the Western Hemisphere anytime soon most people will import. The likeness of it coming on XBLM and PSN is very slim.
Square has been behind Microsoft a lot recently but it seems no matter what happens a Final Fantasy game on a Playstation console will always be their main and #1 concern.
Its messed up how much love the PS3 and PSP is getting with Final Fantasy and the neglection of the 360 version but I do respect the loyalty even though they gave the exclusive away the PS3 version still gets most love.
mat parker @ Aug 16th 2008 12:03PM
see the word eventually it could be tommorrow as part of the TGS bringing it Hoemc ampaign or at next years E3
bAssackwards @ Aug 16th 2008 11:14AM
If the demo is truly not region locked, I am importing that sucker!
TCampbell76 @ Aug 16th 2008 1:43PM
It wouldn't matter if it were region locked or not anyway as the US and Japan are within the same blu-ray region code. Plus most game disks are not region coded anyway. So it should be safe to import unless they ridiculously tie access to the demo to Japanese PSN accounts in some fashion.
MGOSW @ Aug 16th 2008 11:25AM
Oh and for those Square-Enix “fans” who call them $quare-Enix.
Did you ever stop and think that they needed the money from Microsoft and never wanted to develop for the 360? But they accepted already and will eventually develop the 360 version.
This money Microsoft has given Square-Enix is helping make the game us PS3 owners will love even better.
The other half is probably money for other Square games.
the_culture @ Aug 16th 2008 1:03PM
All this love SE has been showing Microsoft lately better lead to one thing: Final Fantasy VII Remake on the PS3!
Nathanical @ Aug 16th 2008 11:37AM
DID I JUST SEE HELGHAST ON THAT SCAN! :O!!!!!!!
ClouDbOy @ Aug 16th 2008 11:45AM
Great news. 90 minutes long. Just can't wait for it. If the demo is region free I will import the BluRay =D
Michel @ Aug 16th 2008 11:56AM
In fact, the demo would be over 120 long because Advent Children Complete is 30 minutes longer than the original FFVII AC. Moreover, the demo will not be region locked because it will be on a standard disk game (which is not region locked) and not on the ACC bluray.
frankym @ Aug 16th 2008 12:15PM
Now this is all very good news. (I hate those ridiculously short demos....Heavenly Sword anyone?)
Meresin @ Aug 16th 2008 12:40PM
That's AWESOME NEWS!
...for Japan.
Josh @ Aug 16th 2008 12:55PM
with a demo that long, i hope the saves can be used on the full game. that would be a nice touch.
Popfrogs @ Aug 16th 2008 3:30PM
I was thinking the exact same thing. After that long of a demo you should be able to buy the full game and just hit "continue".
saito ps3 @ Aug 16th 2008 1:24PM
wow, this is amazing, this has sold me on a import! if you want to import the game, just go to www.playasia.com thats the bet import site on the internet and the most popular. i would import this because we may never see the game state side for another year =(
MGOSW @ Aug 19th 2008 4:10AM
@ The Culture
Its not time for a FF7 remake, FF7 isn't even done yet *SPOILERS* Genisis is still alive.
FF7 is supposed to last until 2017 a 20 year life cycle. FF7 Remake will probably be on PS4 in like 2017, the final year of FF7.
Jawmuncher @ Aug 16th 2008 10:15PM
To bad the 90 minute will probably be 30 minutes FMV.
Though I'm still greatly looking forward to it.
MetalGearsOfSolidWar @ Aug 19th 2008 6:46AM
