Worldwide PSP releases for the week of August 17

NA Games
- no new releases
- No new releases
Perhaps instead of writing words and sentences to convey that we're not getting any games for the entirety of the week, we should just write a single ellipses and be done with it.

...and thats why i sold my psp.
ultra lucky cat @ Aug 17th 2008 11:18AM
But still you linger on the PSP forum...like a vaginally amputated hooker.
Amos @ Aug 17th 2008 1:12PM
... and that's why I installed Homebrew. I have more games to play than I know what to do with :)
borst @ Aug 17th 2008 1:24PM
lol. I installed all the homebrew in the world. Still got bored of it after after a while. It's too bad; the connectivity with my PS3 has alot of potential, but never seemed to use it.
ultra lucky cat: Your mother's profession aside, I check the PS3 Fanboy portion, and once in a while click on the various tabs linking to the other "---Fanboy" sites. Next.
gurbinder @ Aug 17th 2008 11:02AM
...I'm not suprised at the list at all
Don @ Aug 17th 2008 1:38PM
It sucks that new PSP releases have slowed to a standstill.
It would be nice if PSPFanboy had an ongoing column spotlighting some of the good games that have already come out, maybe some that have been forgotten. "PSP Buried Treasures" or something like that.
Armani @ Aug 17th 2008 2:12PM
Yeah, I agree. The PSP has a great backlog, it would be nice if more people could experience some of its gems. But, one can only entertain themselves with the PSP's prior games for so long. I'm REALLY considering selling my PSP; the lack of support Sony is giving it in NA is pathetic. Sure Remote Play is great, but I don't think it's enough to warrant holding on to it.
Jacksons @ Aug 17th 2008 2:19PM
Yeah... There's quite a few games that didn't seem to get the attention they deserve. Some of my favorite games fall in that category (dead head fred, downstream panic, crush...)
Dr Haisook @ Aug 17th 2008 3:11PM
I'm sure you haven't finished the previous games. There are a lot of great games already out there which should take you forever to complete. The DS, on the other hand, needs weekly games because a DS game can be completed in a week on average.
I've just played a few rounds in Ridge Racer 2, and I thank Sony everytime I play it for bringing us that technological gem, the PSP. Personally, I think the PSP is ahead of its time. I'm sad people do not appreciate high-end technology.
cafecito @ Aug 17th 2008 5:31PM
I love my high-end PSP as well =P
And I still play (and love) Tekken and HSG Open Tee 2. Unlocking everything on those games takes forever, and I enjoy that =)
PD: I'll be getting a copy of Ridge Racer 2 now that you mention it. I can't believe I let that one slip my radar O_o
Dr Haisook @ Aug 17th 2008 6:34PM
RR2 was not released in the US. There's EU and AUS releases though.
RR1 is almost identical to 2. The latter only has more racing tracks.
aj @ Aug 18th 2008 2:40AM
People only appreciate high end tech if it does something for them.
I've never bought a console just to have it. I wait for the games. The only reason I bought a PSP is for a list of PSP exclusives. I could care less how high end the PSP is, I just want it to be fun. So far it is. Have you played Crisis Core? That game is all sorts of awesome.
Dr Haisook @ Aug 18th 2008 4:01AM
As I said there are actually great games out there other than Crisis Core and God of War, but I don't know why people overlook them. As to exculsives, there are: Exit 1/2, Lumines 1/2, Lemmings, Metal Gear Acid 1/2, Metal Gear Portable Ops, Wipeout Pure/Pulse, and a lot more.
No, I haven't played Crisis Core. Might be shocking, but I'm not a fan of Final Fantasy.
Don @ Aug 18th 2008 4:10PM
Not to nitpick, but Exit is going to be ported to DS soon. Wipeout Pure HD is available as a PS3 download (I think?) and Lumines is available as an Xbox Live download. Didn't Lemmings start out as a PC game?
Dr Haisook @ Aug 18th 2008 4:44PM
Exit 'has been' PSP exclusive for 2.5 years now (3 for JP release). Exit 2 'is' PSP exclusive. Wipeout Pure and Lumines debuted on the PSP. Lemmings debuted on PC, but its only portable incarnation is on the PSP.
cafecito @ Aug 17th 2008 5:26PM
You worry too much, guys. Things will get better from September onward =)
strike @ Aug 17th 2008 6:02PM
With games like Duke Nukem, Dissidia, Birth By Sleep, FF Agito XIII, etc, coming out soon, things look a lot better.
Notice how much effort Square is putting in to the PSP. If only more ddevs did the same. Capcom has done it's fair share, but Resident Evil and Devil May Cry games are more than welcomed =D
omgitsthepope @ Aug 17th 2008 6:30PM
support for both handhelds has been pretty dry lately it seems alot of concentration is on the consoles now
Jeremy @ Aug 17th 2008 7:02PM
Well, a quick look at Gamestop's upcoming products shows the difference between platforms:
DS - 206
PSP - 34
Xbox 360 - 203
PS2 - 95
PS3 - 171
Xbox - 2
Wii - 182
Looks like the DS is pretty much the King. The PSP is beating the Xbox by a wide margin, though.
strike @ Aug 17th 2008 7:50PM
Only around two of those Ds games would be worth buying. The rest are probably more nintenslogs or something along those lines.
This is my opinion, so don't take it personally, but I really do think that for every good Ds game out there, there are 102 bad games aswell.
mezzanine @ Aug 17th 2008 9:05PM
All I ever wanted, all I ever needed, is here in my arms, anyway, so w/e.
McDoobie @ Aug 17th 2008 10:25PM
Haven't touched my PSP since God of War -- pretty sad. However, I'd never sell it because who knows what's in store for the handheld in the future.
omgitsthepope @ Aug 17th 2008 10:58PM
@jeremy
You really can't judge by release charts like that games pop up all the time and many don't meet release date (vaporware) The ds only has one title releasing this week so its not like the competition is flowing with titles the handhelds have been slowing down. And honestly most third party games on the ds aren't the best usually only first party and big companies known for rpgs are worth buying. (square enix, atlus, ect.)
sorry if this is a double post it didn't post the first time to my knowledge said to go click an email or something but screw that.
naxe @ Aug 18th 2008 1:45PM
iam with Doobie on that one.... i still have my psp collecting dust with god of war still inside. Nothing new. Nothing exciting. Nothing at all.
Thank konami for MGO.
its the only thing i ever touch anymore.
cafecito @ Aug 18th 2008 3:34PM
That's because you just play mainstream games. I mean... just GOW and MGS? That's poor. I rented GOW to check out if it was worth a purchase, and that was enough to finish it. There are just so many other titles to check out!
Virtuous @ Aug 17th 2008 11:56PM
PSP Fanboy ought to discontinue this weekly post. All it does is draw more attention to the lack of publisher support for the PSP. AOL shouldn't be paying for useless posts.
aj @ Aug 18th 2008 2:35AM
Is the PSP hard to develop for, or is it just that no one is buying PSPs in North America?
cafecito @ Aug 18th 2008 2:58AM
Decent PSP games take time to develop. That's what's so different from the DS... where games can be as simplistic as your average java cellphone game, and noone will complain. It's true there's a little of a drought right now, but neat titles are on the works as we speak, so I'm not worried. Besides, September marks a new beggining, with titles coming at a much more regular pace. Just check IGN's release date list. Actually, PSPfanboy should have some kinda release date list as well, for reference purposes.
Anyway. What DOES worry me is the lack of game localizations we're getting. Japan is enjoying a much colorful game lineup than us... and that's a bummer.
andwhyisit @ Aug 18th 2008 3:03AM
I'm happy with the upcoming Yggdra Union, Mana Khemia and Star Ocean localisations for now.
cafecito @ Aug 18th 2008 4:01AM
Indeed. Those are some of the "September onward" titles I was talking about. I'm pretty excited about Mana Khemia in particular. Then there's SW The Force Unleashed, LEGO Batman, Valhalla Knights 2, a new Crash Bandicoot game, a new Midnight Club game, Neverland Card Battles, KOF Collection, DJ Max Fever among others to look forward in the short term.
Were still missing some great stuff from Japan tho, specially in the RPG realm. Games such as Kingdom of Paradise 2, Rezel Cross, Astonishia 2, Phantasy Star Portable, Hammerin Harry and the Bleach Heat the Soul series are just few of them.
Dr Haisook @ Aug 18th 2008 4:03AM
And Taiko no Tasujin Portable 1/2! Those games are crazy!
Frastoglegnia @ Aug 18th 2008 5:20PM
I use my PSP far more than my DS for the simple reason I greatly prefer its versatility, interface, user experience and emphasis on certain kinds of gameplay. The DS is excellent conceptually and may be said to rely more on the imagination than the DS, since the experience is less immersive viscerally, but this is by no means a strike against the DS.
I have but a certain number of hours during the week and have yet to finish all of my PSP games, which were culled from the catalog and represent the best I could find. That's why I'm actually relieved when the platform offers fewer games: I'm not being tempted to spend more time and money for the moment. Besides which, I don't own Metal Gear Acid 2 and would prefer to buy that before it disappears than something new which will be around for ages.
