Capcom crushes rumors, still strongly supports PSP
A reader of Capcom Unity, Capcom's official blog, posed a bold question to the crew during the blog's "Ask Capcom weekly roundup." He wanted to know why Capcom had 'forsaken the PSP.' He got the idea after listening to a silly rumor made by a friend and then further worried having seen Capcom's minimalist PSP release schedule. In response, Capcom strong arm Christian Svensson had this to say: "Absolutely 100% false ... We're still making new PSP games. We may be the most successful PSP publisher in the world with Monster Hunter Portable 2nd and 2ndG. It'd be a difficult decision to defend stopping development when we have such success on the platform."
While it is reassuring to hear Capcom stomp out such an unwarranted rumor, we're sure most of you are still wondering what sort of games Capcom must be working on. Truth be told, there isn't too much known at the moment; Fate/Tiger Colosseum Upper is the only Capcom PSP game announced for release in the remainder of the year. That's a Japan-only title. Then we're brought to Devil May Cry PSP, which as of right now is still only a rumor. Since Capcom haven't officially said what these "new PSP games" are, then we'll pose a question upon our readers. What do you think Capcom might be working on?

A whole new franchise, called 'Evil Resident', in which your room mate flicks paper balls at you and sticks gum in your hair.....Evilly
Joe @ Aug 18th 2008 2:47PM
Well back in 05 there was talk that Capcom would bring Devil May Cry to the PSP. It was to be a remake of the first but I think that might have been canceled for a new game instead. Also there was also talks about bringing Resident Evil to the PSP too. So I Really hope those games come to the PSP. They may not be my kind of games. I would take a Dino Crisis more so then those game but I know those games sell really well. So if people buy those games more devs might bring more games to the PSP.
tyrant1234 @ Aug 18th 2008 2:57PM
Resident Evil Portable!!!
Should hope so after all the signitures the online petition to capcom got.
Darkruffy @ Aug 18th 2008 2:57PM
i wish in a new "Megaman Maverick Hunters" games...
one friend my sayed that they will make a remake of all others 'megamans X series'. i wish this can come true...
cafecito @ Aug 18th 2008 3:19PM
That's two of us. I'd love to see other Megaman X games masterfully remade as Maverick Hunter was. Those are the great games... unlike those EMO-looking Zero and ZX series. Heck, even Powered Up looks fine, even with its SD ultra cuteness factor... cuz it looks cute, not EMO.
Vincent @ Aug 18th 2008 4:33PM
That's 3 of us. Megaman Maverick Hunter X was a masterpiece in its entirety. The OVA, the new Vile mode, the graphics and gameplay redone.. It made me want more of that :3 Please go on Capcom, bring us all of the X series (up to 6 at least) remade for the PSP!!
tyrant1234 @ Aug 18th 2008 3:03PM
Resident Evil Portable!!!
Should hope so after all the signitures the petition got.....
Camcom said they'd SERIOUSLY consider it if the petition got 30,000 signitures it did that within a couple of weeks!!!
1251 @ Aug 18th 2008 3:04PM
They better be working on RE version for PSP.. No REmakes either! Brand new stuff, I do expect, Capcom!
I'll give you all the money it takes!
Jacksons @ Aug 18th 2008 3:14PM
Well that's good, Capcom's my favorite Japanese developer.
strike @ Aug 18th 2008 3:48PM
Mine too =)
misterdbarton @ Aug 18th 2008 3:18PM
I'd love to see a new game based just on Nero...
cafecito @ Aug 18th 2008 3:23PM
Let's hope to see more Capcom titles on PSP then. As you guys say, a Resident Evil, Devil May Cry or even a new IP would be great. Personally, I'd love a Street Fighter game... a Street fighter 3 or 4 port would be kinda sweet =P
Anything but Monster Hunter. That's the only Capcom game I dislike.
MRLA @ Aug 18th 2008 3:44PM
they are working on Resident Hunter Cry 3G :P
strike @ Aug 18th 2008 3:50PM
I'd also like to see a soul eater portable. I played it on my cousin's PS3 and loved it =)
strike @ Aug 18th 2008 3:52PM
Sorry, soul CALIBER, not soul eater. Got it mixed up with a manga =D
Paulo @ Aug 18th 2008 4:18PM
Erm, Soul CalibUr isn't from Capcom...
Well, listing Capcom games that didn't show on PSP:
• Devil May Cry (it has been listed for PSP releases)
• Dead Rising (not possible, but it would be really sweet to have an ad-hoc multiplayer of this game)
• Final Fight (a remake like Megaman X or Ghouls n' Goblins... hmm)
• God Hand (I would like at least a port of it.)
• Onimusha (One more)
• Rival Schools (One of the greatest 3D fighting games that I 've played)
• Resident Evil (Make it multiplayer ad-hoc, on a PSP, total success)
• Street Fighter (I want a 3rd strike port)
And the list goes on.
strike @ Aug 18th 2008 4:37PM
@ Paulo
I never said it was, I was just saying I would love soul caliber on psp. It's made by Namco, right? I was never a fan of it, but after playing 4, I really got into it.
cafecito @ Aug 19th 2008 2:16AM
OMG I had completely forgotten about Rival Schools and Onimusha. Rival Schools is indeed the BEST EVER 2.5D brawler series. A new game in the series would be the greatest thing ever (Well maybe not that much, but it'd be BIG nonetheless)
I'm all for the SF3 port as well. I believe the PSP is more than capable of handling that game.
sean @ Aug 18th 2008 3:51PM
resident evil is perfect on PSP with the new controls. u dont even need to analog stick. should make a new resident evil game exclusivly for the PSP with jill as the main character. that would make me like capcom again.
strike @ Aug 18th 2008 3:53PM
wat made you dislike it?
sean @ Aug 18th 2008 4:43PM
canceling monster hunter 3.
strike @ Aug 18th 2008 4:45PM
Don't you mean taking it to the Wii? Yeh, Im sad bout that too, but with monster hunters success, im sure we'll get more on the psp
strike @ Aug 18th 2008 3:56PM
Sorry for being off topic, but....
Are we gonna get a demo of Star Wars-Force Unleashed. It would make sense, seeing as the PS3 fanboys and Xbots are getting one.
Christopher @ Aug 19th 2008 11:16AM
Nothing wrong with Xbox if you like the games on the platform. I'd say Sony fanboys are just as capable of being sheep (bots)...
With that said, I think all three platforms have strong platforms. I take issue because I actually like Xbox.
Resident Evil would be nice, but why not just play RE on your PSP hacked? Sure, ad hoc would be nice, but keep in mind that any port of an older game is risky. Do you really think 30K people are all going to buy a PSP version? Probably not. Can they put funds into remaking it for say 15K people? Probably not, but we'll see...

Jeremy @ Aug 18th 2008 4:37PM
I'd love to believe him, but January was the last PSP release from Capcom USA, and with no new titles announced, I don't see how they could have any done this year.
And also note that the last PSP release from them, was formerly an exclusive, and was delayed to get ported to the Wii and PS2. (Basically sabotaging the sales of the PSP version).
The facts seem to show that yes, Capcom USA at least, has given up on the PSP. Denying it is probably just a PR move.
theMediaman @ Aug 18th 2008 4:38PM
It would be interesting to see Megaman 9 ported to PSP, seeing as it's going to be distributed in software-only format as WiiWare.
Jacksons @ Aug 18th 2008 9:47PM
See, that's what I thought as well. I'm still a little dumbfounded as to why it's not PSP compatible.
Jeff Brown @ Aug 18th 2008 8:32PM
Here's what I think.
1) bringing Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G to NA and Europe
2) A new viewtiful joe game
3) Devil May Cry: "Portable"
and 4) making Mega Man 9 playable on the PSP
edge @ Aug 18th 2008 9:14PM
I'd love to see Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on the PSP. Yeah it couldn't really do the HD graphics (though the screen res on the PSP *is* capable of higher res than the original arcade game, so the new artwork would be an improvement), but the new gameplay and music would be a definite possibility. Add in some ad hoc support and you'd have a winner on your hands especially if it were available as a PSN downloadable game (I hate UMDs).
lorddshadow @ Aug 18th 2008 9:52PM
HD on PSP = Higher Def?
edge @ Aug 18th 2008 11:39PM
@ lorddshadow:
Yeah, the arcade game was something like 320x240, but the PSP screen is 480x272, so slightly higher vertical res and significantly higher horizontal res (owing to the 16:9 aspect ratio of the screen while the arcade game is 4:3; the upcoming HD Remix for PS3/360 is 16:9 capable though so the full PSP screen could also be used if desired).
Darlaten @ Aug 18th 2008 9:19PM
I agree with #24 above. Basically, I'd take a wait and see approach. Maybe, I'm too synical, but it seems like a PR move until games are physically in my hand. I'd love to see a Devil May Cry on the PSP in the same vane as God of War: CoO. That worked very well. But until I see something released, I'm not holding my breath.
Ch@os @ Aug 18th 2008 9:40PM
I know , I KNOW!
TALISMAN PSP!
Oh wait...that was on the PS3, and was cancelled...
...or WAS it?...
andwhyisit @ Aug 18th 2008 10:01PM
Breath of Fire 6 would be awesome.
strike @ Aug 19th 2008 6:59AM
That, indeed, would be awesome
anarkhy @ Aug 18th 2008 10:30PM
I want Virtua Fighter, Daytona and a remake of Streets of Rage on PSP.
edge @ Aug 19th 2008 9:12AM
Yeah, none of those are Capcom games. Thanks for the offtopic...
Preacher747 @ Aug 18th 2008 10:53PM
From Capcom I'd really like to see them make the following for the PSP...
Onimusha - new game in the series
Tech Romancer - port of the awesome Dreamcast game
Resident Evil - anything, so long as it uses RE4's controls
Strider - a new game in the series
Marvel vs. Capcom series - better than powerstone
Bionic Commando - have a downloadable version for the PSP for those without PS3s for remote play
Phoenix Wright - give the PSP some more love than just Harvey Birdman
Gargoyle's Quest - Capcom's answer to Zelda
omgitsthepope @ Aug 18th 2008 11:41PM
@anarkhy i think you got capcom mixed up with sega :p
anarkhy @ Aug 19th 2008 12:31AM
I know...
RockerAnimeFreak @ Aug 19th 2008 12:20AM
Chaos Legion Portable! you hear that Capcom!!!!!!! you didn't even make a sequel what the hell, MAN! =/
Aedan @ Aug 19th 2008 7:09AM
I think a Resident Evil Outbreak's remake with ad-hoc will could be a great succes.
But we still waiting for Devil May Cry Portable...
Ashe @ Aug 19th 2008 9:58AM
Well Capcom can make all the promises they want but I wont believe it until I see it. There claims are hollow. Im sick of the Monster Hunter games. I want something new on the PSP. I would very much like to see the Devil May Cry games and even a new one. They would work beautifully on a PSP.
