SOCOM Confrontation beta goes global, Europe gets access on 9/1 as well

Just like your friends across the Atlantic, European gamers will be able to enjoy the SOCOM Confrontation beta on September 1st. In fact, the beta will be global so players from Asia, America, Europe and Oceania will be able to play each other all on the same day (unlike some other beta programs). Each region will have different methods of acquiring access to the beta, so keep a sharp eye out at your local retailer for any pre-order incentives they may have.

This better be the best game ever. I like playing Warhawk and Bad Company a lot. I've been hoping this 1 ups everything for online play. Which is all I care about in these types of games. It'll be hard for it to do so without vehicles though.

Obviously you haven't played SOCOM. The best tactical online multiplayer game last generation. SOCOM 3 had vehicles, but it completely ruined the gameplay. You know, games aren't just about vehicles. These are Special Operations forces on a stealthy mission. What are they supposed to bring, a tank to the battle and make it an all out war (the single player was very stealthy)? It doesn't make sense, or belong in SOCOM. This isn't a run-and-gun shooter like COD4. It has no respawn (it has the mode, but 95% of the games are 1 life per round and the only way to play ranked rooms is without respawn), and a lot of SOCOMers use headsets to communicate. SOCOM II on the PS2 trums COD4 in my opinion. SOCOM is probably the most realistic shooter, and an amazing tactical experience. Stay away from this title if you're expecting a Warhawk or Battlefield experience, turn around.

And a note to all players: If you're not buying the headset bundle, get a headset. There's a rule in SOCOM, if you don't have a headset, a lot of the times you will get voted out of a room ;)

Well it sounds cool, I just hope it's really good. By the sound of it it might not be my style of game. I hate those games when you die and have to wait for the game to end to respawn.

After watching some videos and stuff to get a feel for SOCOM (I was thinking it was just a counter strike rip off or something) it actually looks pretty damn good. I really hope it delivers, PS3 needs this.

Well if you want to be technical. If Asia and most parts of Europe get the beta on the 1st. Then that will be the 30th here in the States.

Kinda seems like anyone who wants to try the socom beta can do so pretty easily. Which kinda makes the first qore episode's 'demo/beta' kinda unneeded and makes it seem sorta like filler.

Can someone explain to me what the controls are likely to be like (i'd imagine they'd be pretty similar to the PS2 games?) in comparison to another 3rd Person shooter MGO.

MGO is the first game of this type (played racers) i've gone online with, as can't play FPS (I need to see the character i'm controlling lol).

Would SOCOM be easy to pick up? It looks great.

(And i'm sick of MGO now, too many stat whores, spwan campers and not enough teamwork going on, i'd imagine the people who play this would be more interested in working as a team lol).
