Afrika: the complete trailer
Okay, so it's not from Leipzig, but considering the other two trailers that were released tonight, we thought it wise to highlight this trailer for the PS3-exclusive Afrika. Unlike the Japanese commercial for the game, this trailer looks rather exciting -- the opposite of sleep-inducing if you ask us. The National Geographic branding certainly adds a bit more weight to the authenticity of this unique nature observation game. Hopefully, we'll see a localized release announced in the coming weeks.

brando @ Aug 19th 2008 9:31PM
Wow that's fairly impressive. The music is so epic.
brando @ Aug 19th 2008 9:34PM

kevin @ Aug 19th 2008 10:19PM
can you walk up to them and hit em? or skin them alive?
Playboy X - PSN: ummfada @ Aug 19th 2008 9:35PM
Can you get killed by a stingray
Nerdkiller @ Aug 19th 2008 10:11PM
Ouch. Thats taking it a bit too far now isn't it?
Kodros @ Aug 20th 2008 11:12AM
Yes, because stingray's love to roam the African plains.
massive_98 @ Aug 19th 2008 9:37PM
I really hope this game has a story. If its just about taking pictures I don't think I'll be sold. They could weave an interesting story about poachers, locals and one photographers struggle to save Africa. But we'll likely just get picture missions and education.
lorddshadow @ Aug 19th 2008 9:40PM
that music reminds me of monster hunter...makes me want to pull out a long sword and a shock trap...
dan @ Aug 19th 2008 9:43PM
lol was that pride rock in the very end of the trailer??
matt.dugan @ Aug 19th 2008 9:46PM
Haha it is like that pokemon game but the fact that this isn't pokemon makes it a legit possibility of being good.
McBonk @ Aug 19th 2008 9:51PM
Now _that_ looks unique. Bravo, Japan Studio, y'all do cool stuff. This is a buy.
Patrick @ Aug 19th 2008 10:09PM
Man, i actually want this...
Hope it gets a European release sometime, heard it wasn't getting one a while back.
Kspraydad @ Aug 19th 2008 10:13PM
Trophies?
I want a lion's head trophy. I LOVE the SONY camera cross branding...I wonder if one of the challenges in the game will be to find a Memory Stick at an affordable price. :)
kentuckyfried @ Aug 20th 2008 12:30AM
lol...that's just sooooooo wrong.
farfisa @ Aug 19th 2008 10:31PM
For a second when I saw the cameras I was thinking, oh, I wonder what choices you have... then I quickly realized it's going to be between Sony and Sony.
It looks like it's mission based, with that Moneypenny chick maybe calling you up on your sat phone to get your Alpha 350 ready. I hope there's a demo--I'll see how addicted my toddler gets... or maybe not.
leiwei @ Aug 20th 2008 12:36AM
Yea it's too bad. I was hoping there'd be a wider camera selection. The game seems interesting, but looking at the video, I wonder if they could've only used some photo-real textures (like from GT5p) for the background and some of the animals. Afterall, it's a photography game isn't it?
I'm also mighty surprised they had a video of the lion w/ some animal in its mouth. Rated T for teen. =D
Happy_man @ Aug 19th 2008 10:47PM
First thing I would do is run up to the loins so I can see the death animations, hell everything else looks good, why not dieing.
shortyvs @ Aug 19th 2008 11:11PM
This is definitely a must buy for me. I loved the concept of Pokemon snap and this looks simply stunning. The shot that got me was the shot of the cheetah carrying a gazelle by the neck.
kentuckyfried @ Aug 20th 2008 12:32AM
Hopefully successful completion of the game will open up a hunting mode...
...against illegal poachers. ;)
cyclonusisback @ Aug 20th 2008 1:56AM
Wow the game seems to have a lot more features than shown previously. Man those graphics are stunning!
Logion @ Aug 20th 2008 2:03AM
This will be a nice complement to Far Cry 2. When you get tired of taking pictures of the animals...shoot them.
Ash @ Aug 20th 2008 2:06AM
Wow, Afrika seems to have a lot more features than previously shown.
Really looking forward to this game as a relaxing alternative for FPS.
Still involves shooting, just of a different kind. ;)
Ash @ Aug 20th 2008 2:10AM
This game seems to have a lot more features than shown before.
I look forward to using this as a relaxing alternative to shooters.
Time to shoot with my camera for a change. XD
llenadodeverbos @ Aug 20th 2008 3:14AM
yeah, awesome. boob.
JaseH @ Aug 20th 2008 3:40AM
Duuuuuuuuude. Mods would be perfect for this game. Heh.
I hope Sony come to their senses and release this EVERYWHERE else!... do you have any idea how many Pokemon Snap & Animal lovers there are in this world?!... My own Uncle wants to buy a PS3 JUST for this game!... he's a Photographer. :]
Man... I gotta start learning Japanese...

Looks fairly interesting, definitely different I'll try a demo if they have it.
Anthony @ Aug 20th 2008 11:32AM
Can anyone say "Pokemon Snap"? I like the idea of the camera upgrades and all. But the camera aspect looks like it should be a mini game instead of a full blown game. If it is sand box style, then it seams like it'll be neat experience. I wouldn't pay more than 30 bucks for it. Seams like a decent rental.
Evan @ Aug 21st 2008 10:21AM
The graphics look NOTHING like the bull-shots Sony showed at E3 2006. And, I would have preferred a more African-influenced soundtrack. But those will be forgiven if this game has a real story with developed characters.
steve @ Aug 23rd 2008 12:31AM
Looks fantastic. Now this development team needs work on a game using this engine and replacing the African wildlife with dinosaurs and replacing the cameras with guns. That would FANfreakin'tastic!
