Quantic Dream confident Heavy Rain has 'no competitors'
The lid on Heavy Rain will be blown off this week at Leipzig Games Convention. To get you ready, check out this newly released interview from Gamereactor TV, taken after Sony's secret behind-closed-doors showing at E3 earlier this year. The interview doesn't reveal much: it shows the same screenshots that were leaked a few weeks ago, and all video footage is of the game's very early tech demonstration. It's interesting to see how confident Quantic Dream is about their upcoming project, saying games like Uncharted only managed to get "some" things right. Other than that, they promise that Heavy Rain has "no competitors."
Working with Sony Computer Entertainment seems to be very beneficial for the team, especially because Sony has offered them a chance to create "the best game possible." He's definitely getting the hype engine revving ... and it won't be long until we can judge for ourselves whether or not the hype is warranted.
[Thanks, shak h.!]

And the hype train keeps on rolling.
Man, hopefully they'll have a grand showing at GC this year.
If not, I wish they'd kindly stop making comments until they can show something off.
If they're saying Uncharted only got 'some' things right, one can only IMAGINE what they have in store.
That is until they 'show' us.
Can't wait.
Jerses @ Aug 19th 2008 2:08PM
i just want to see the gameplay then ill hype
Davey @ Aug 19th 2008 2:20PM
I don't really know how to feel about this game. I mean I don't have a clue what you do or anything, all I know is the graphics will be amazing. Hopefully it will live up to expectations. I'm excited to hear more.
DeforMAKulizer @ Aug 19th 2008 2:31PM
After seeing those screens over at ripten.com i am VERY VERY excited for what Quantic Dreams has in store for us...

Tomorrow
anthonyjh @ Aug 19th 2008 3:19PM
I'm extremely excited. I really like IP, but it wasn't without problems. Heavy Rain will find a place on my shelf regardless of reviews.
Topsu @ Aug 19th 2008 3:29PM
I'm afraid it doesn't match the expections it already has.
Thomas @ Aug 19th 2008 3:35PM
yeah, well there's no competition because there's no game (completed).
Gambit07 @ Aug 19th 2008 3:39PM
When is the Sony press conference exactly? the exact pacific time.
Simstim @ Aug 19th 2008 3:45PM
Better than Uncharted? We'll see about that
gtfreak1985 @ Aug 19th 2008 3:47PM
Hope its not all hype. Looking forward for it to be awesome.
Dante @ Aug 19th 2008 4:02PM
really looking forward to seeing more of this game!
and horay for new comment system.
Waqman @ Aug 19th 2008 4:09PM
I loved Uncharted the first time I played it....now not so much. It feels so repetitive and tedious to me even with trophies. I never thought I would say this but I'm selling it. I'll definitely play the sequel, but its not really a must have to me anymore.
Popfrogs @ Aug 19th 2008 5:12PM
Yeah I hope the sequel (if they make one) has alot more puzzles in it. I love puzzles in action games but nobody does them right anymore.
John-Paul-Jones @ Aug 19th 2008 10:34PM
I think that Uncharted had too much platforming that it was more than unbearable.
Terry @ Aug 19th 2008 4:19PM
IP was far from perfect so this guy needs to put up first before he can start talking other games down. I really hope HR is this amazing though. Cant wait.
Byron517 @ Aug 19th 2008 4:25PM
I think this game will be something special.. IP was something else so I expect they will improve on that!
Byron517 @ Aug 19th 2008 4:25PM
YAY!! No comment system!!
facepalm @ Aug 19th 2008 4:27PM
I'm pretty sure that when they're talking about having "no competitors" they're talking about making a game that provides a more "emotional experience", good story telling, and a strong characterization rather than graphics.
EDIT ADDED: Yeah, they were talking about story telling when relating to Uncharted and having "no competitors". (Starts at around 5:50 minutes in...)
So in other words, having more meaning to the game than just the shooting, driving, jumping, and fighting, which many games out there already provide.
What I loved about Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit was the story telling and the emotional aspect (with exception of the last part)... And hopefully Quantic Dream's next game will provide an even better experience.
leiwei @ Aug 19th 2008 4:34PM
Beware the hype train!
*just testing new comment system. it's lookin good!*
Sir Ancient @ Aug 19th 2008 4:37PM
No competitors?Haha whats with Team Ico?Team Icos ps3 project will be more emotional, immersive and graphically better than this so called heavy rain.
Brodie-san @ Aug 19th 2008 4:42PM
If the new comment system only removes the complete randomness of sometimes posting the comment, sometimes sending you an email to approve the comment and sometimes SAYING an email has been sent only for one to never appear - it will be a roaring success in my book.
As for HR - high talk to compare yourself to Uncharted without any footage shown. Which suggests they've got something seriously super hot up their sleaves. Can't wait for more details to emerge at Leipzig.
Mr Khan @ Aug 19th 2008 4:49PM
They may jinx themselves saying that. Pretty much everyone that makes that comment winds up getting outshone if they're strictly talking about graphics tech
Given that, it looks as though Heavy Rain will be a unique experience enough to have "No Competitors," being a character driven mystery game and all
NightHawk @ Aug 19th 2008 4:51PM
well looks like well be hearing and seeing some interesting things at leipzig
orthonovum @ Aug 19th 2008 5:09PM
Demo???? what demo?
bkalasin @ Aug 19th 2008 5:28PM
Interesting interview. As an "older" gamer, I for one welcome games with more depth and more focus on storylines. The old run-shoot-repeat stuff doesn't do much for me anymore.
One question though: what's a dev lopper?
ScroogeMcDuck @ Aug 19th 2008 5:41PM
I need to see more of this game before I say I'm excited.
KiraXD @ Aug 19th 2008 6:02PM
" saying games like Uncharted only managed to get "some" things right."
uncharted got everything right imo. as far as animation and graphics... no other game has shown the quality that uncharted has (yet)
hopeully HR can at least meet that... otherwise they just shot themselves in the foot by saying that it will surpass Uncharted (technically thats what what they are impying)
Popfrogs @ Aug 19th 2008 8:37PM
From a technology standpoint, I think this game has surpassed Uncharted and pretty much anything else on any platform. The control they have over characters, fabrics, etc. appears to be unrivaled. I think that's what they're talking about...not saying "our game is better than Uncharted", more like saying "our engine is way more advanced".
Eric @ Aug 19th 2008 6:13PM
I guess they are right that they won't have any competition on PS3, but Alan Wake is probably going to be extremely stiff competition as far as the entire console market goes.
Fido16 @ Aug 19th 2008 6:20PM
New PS3 AND a new comment system (all in 1 day).
sweeeeeeeet :D
Metal_Gear @ Aug 19th 2008 6:24PM
I loved Farenhiet (I'm in the UK :P) so much, I bought it second hand and didn't expect much from it but it blew me away and as a result, I am really looking forward to this.
Flicky @ Aug 19th 2008 6:48PM
UNCHARTED was a great game..........but kinda "jumped the shark" for me when the zombies showed up. I agree it's time to have games with more depth and better story telling.
kevin @ Aug 19th 2008 7:37PM
yay new comment system and this game looks great
itbekevin2010 @ Aug 19th 2008 7:38PM

bubugalu @ Aug 19th 2008 8:26PM

MetalGearsOfSolidWar @ Aug 19th 2008 9:03PM
This and Alan Wake will be two games that'll change video game standards.
However Heavy Rain looks better and I haven't seen enough of Alan Wake but it looks awesome as well.
