Rhythm game peripheral compatibility made simple
With SCEA bringing word of cross-peripheral compatibility for PS3 rhythm games yesterday, consumers looking for that "one music set to rule them all" seems to be a reality drawing closer. However, making sense of the fickle plastic instruments jungle is still quite a daunting task and knowing where each individual peripheral fits into the mass is still a convoluted process. Making life easier on all of you, Joystiq have provided a simple to read chart which clearly illustrates compatible peripherals across all platforms -- behold the Instrument Compatibility Matrix, version 3.0. Color-coded and accompanied by lots of visuals, hunting for that perfect set to fit your needs couldn't be more convenient.

This is WRONG. The guitar hero 3 Les Paul IS a work in progress and sony said they are working on having it work with Rock Band 2 (which is what i need). So instead of having NO under that it should have N/A because it is still a work in progress.

Agreed.

Do you know WTF "N/A" means?

That's good, because I'm kind of a mess when it comes to this kind of stuff...
I prefer the microphone of SingStar (especially the wireless ones), the drums of GH: WT (from the look of it), and (contrary to what other people like) the Guitar of Rock Band.

That's not contrary. Everyone I know (and myself) say that the RB Strat is way better than the GH guitars. A few people weren't sure about it at first (being used to GH) but after a bit of playing with the RB Strat, they decided it was a big improvement too.

It's not possible for the RB drumset to be fully compatible with GH:WT. It simply has too few pads... it's missing an entire color.
Furthermore, the GH:WT guitar has a touch-sensitive area toward the base of the neck. Any gameplay elements in GH:WT involving this functionality would not be accessible to older instruments... The RB guitars basic on/off solo keys there, and the older GH guitars have nothing.
Long story short; The GH:WT instruments can probably be used to play less feature-rich games, but the relationship is not bi-directional.
