Bug-filled PSN game, Savage Moon, revealed
As expected, Savage Moon was revealed for PSN at Leipzig today. This download exclusive is a strategy game with a terrifying bug-infested twist. Players must try to protect an isolated planetary outpost from rampaging hordes of gigantic, ravenous space bugs. It's like Starship Troopers ... meets PixelJunk Monsters. See the very first ever screenshots here.

@Andrew Yoon:
Starship Troopers was the first thing that came to mind as well!!

This looks REALLY interesting..
PS3 exclusive again, I assume.. nice...
Devin @ Aug 20th 2008 4:55PM
Let's hope it's as addictive as PJ:M

Whilst Microsoft's dirty money buys old tired franchises, the PS3 continues to come up with fresh new ones..
I pity those 360 owners with hand-me-down games...
Devin @ Aug 20th 2008 5:18PM
You have a point there Mike. Does MS itself have anything new/innovative on/coming to 360? Y'know...games that either break away from what is expected, define/enhance their genres not only through gameplay, but storyline as well, or are just completely original altogether? A couple come to mind, but IMO it makes sense considering most of their userbase is probably the younger crowd (12-18 yrs) , or is the type that doesn't expect too much and just wants a simple/short storyline with more to-the-point gameplay....which is working of course

I am a PS3 fan, but not a fanboy so I don't have the blinders on. Please explain how repackaging PJM in a Starship Troopers theme is fresh and innovative. It might be a new IP, but I would hardly call the "Desktop Defense" genre fresh.

castle crashers anyone?
Blah @ Aug 20th 2008 6:16PM
I could have sworn he was being entirely sarcastic being that this looks to be exactly like Startship Troopers, and not a fresh idea.
Devin @ Aug 20th 2008 7:41PM
@JerJerBinks
Now, I most suredly wouldn't call this game original, but (from what the screenshots show) I agree that it "looks fresh" in the sense of its presentation and style.
It is using the same mechanic that PJ:M does (building towers and defending a "base"), yes, but it's taking it to another level (I think) in both visuals and approach.
Really what I'm trying to say is that the game may appear to have the same logic of building towers to defend, but the gameplay could be entirely different in the way you defend, the pace of gameplay, how many enemies are there to defend the base from, how many different types of things can you defend with, etc.
If what he was saying was on a more general PS3 games vs 360 games then I agree with him, but less on the "fresh"ness of this PSN title.

Don't turn this news of a new game into a pointless excuse to bash another console.
sillentassasin @ Aug 20th 2008 5:08PM

I was about to criticize the colors (or lack of them) until I spotted the PSN designation. Should be another fun little game to kill way too many hours.
I'm hammering on BRC still, now that is a great little title.

According to the images I've seen so far, I would venture a guess that this game was built on the Warhawk engine.
Who's the developer?
