FIFA 09: debut trailer, demo release date, adidas Live Season mode

Here's the first trailer released for FIFA 09, the newest iteration of the popular soccer franchise. The game is looking great, though some may complain the character models don't look enough like the actual players. You also won't have to wait long to try it out for yourself: the demo will be available from the PSN starting September 11st worldwide.

Furthermore, EA has announced a new "premium service" (meaning it might cost money) called adidas Live Season. This service will provide a weekly update for each player's stats according to their performance in real-life games from the launch of FIFA 09 to the end of the 2008-09 season. It will be only available for Barclay's Premier League, La Liga BBVA, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, Serie A and Mexican Primera Division.

as long as they've fixed the friggen controls from 08,,,,I'll buy...I hate the fact EA has a habbit in the fifa franchise to alter control layouts,... Such as X to switch player in every version until 08 when it turned to a trigger button... not very fair on long time players of the franchise.. they also pulled the same trick way back in 99 I think with Fifa Stars, completely changed the keyboard layout and made it too hard to play... gimme back my control lay out or give me a good custom control setup not just layout a b & C

I hate the FIFA games franchise. EA are just rubbish at it. Until they stop concentrating on graphics, and start making the game actually playable (that is, more responsive controls, easier controls, adaptive difficulty levels and quicker loading times), they'll always suck.

And if they are going to focus on graphics, the player faces are the wrong place to start. If they want somewhere to start, try the animations. Then go to the pitch and stadium, the player bodies, and then their faces.

Animations are the key to making immersive games - even a stick figure, animated properly, can feel realistic. The pitch and stadium take most of the screen space, and look dreadful, letting you know you're playing a game (ergo not realistic enough). The players bodies are also pretty awful, with fabrics not sitting right on the players, and collision detection being so bad players get impaled every other match. Faces are less important, but even then, they should focus on the eyes and mouth.

I think all sports games need a dedicated "roster" team that updates rosters (plus creates players) and ratings. I'm talking pro's who know what they're doing (unlike most online roster uploads) and release at least every other week. I'd happily pay $10-15 extra for this kind of feature on a great game like FIFA or NBA Live and TONS more would enjoy it for Madden and others.
