New PlayStation Eye game announced: Eyepet
Download to PSP
Do you love puppies and kittens? How about virtual puppies and kitties? If you do you, you might enjoy the new Eyepet game that's just been announced. Check it out in the video above.
It's a virtual pet game that allows gamers to interact with their pet by utilizing the PlayStation Eye peripheral. If you put an object in front of the PS Eye, the pet will interact with it on screen. If you wave your fingers in front of the PS Eye, you can tickle your "loveable, simian-like pet." Eyepet is developed by SCEE and will be available in "late 2009" for PAL regions.

Don't worry; for you, they're publishing a version where all the color is desaturated, and you shoot these little guys (in a WWII setting, of course) for being too cute and causing you to question your own masculinity. You'll be equipped with an veritable arsenal of weapons, all of which are required to get the job done.
Rest assured that each little critter will contain a massive amount of blood for a creature its size -- oh, and the red ones will be highly explosive. Yes, this highly-improved version of the game will surely allow you to properly exhibit the truly massive proportions of your totally-not-gay penis.
It should also be said that your influence upon the video game industry is noted and appreciated. "what is this, a ds?" Absolutely brilliant. Developers and publishers everywhere should totally have more people like you working for them to make those truly innovative design observations. Bravo, sir.

yup GREAT idea sony .. no really great idea

If I didn't know that things like Nintendogz are selling like hotcakes I would call this game pure crack. But due to being proven wrong about a market for these kind of games by Nintendogz I will just despair over the state of humanity instead ;)
The_Punisher @ Aug 20th 2008 12:08PM
Singstar Disney, now this? Don't tell me Sony's going soft on us....
Ash @ Aug 20th 2008 3:52PM
Better than not rolling anything out at all.
Nate @ Aug 20th 2008 12:25PM
I wish they'd come out with something less crappy for the eyetoy. I bought it hoping for innovation, and instead I get a fish tank, balls to roll around, and now some puppies to virtually pat. Yay.
Kary @ Aug 20th 2008 12:59PM
LOL @ Balls to roll around!!!!!
Popfrogs @ Aug 20th 2008 1:09PM
Well technically they describe the pet as a "simian", and simian means monkey...so you'll have a pet chimp I guess. Which is pretty weird by itself.
Coming next from SCEJ, Eyepet A Turtle.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Aug 20th 2008 7:47PM
yea i bought the PS Eye as well.....but i havent done anything except play around with the filters on EyeCreate like twice. now it just sits there on top of my PS3 mocking me.
i got it on eBay for $20 though, so at least i didnt waste $40! that sword game looks at least semi interesting though.
kloteradyingrose @ Aug 23rd 2008 5:44AM
Considering the fact that we've never had anything where you can literally draw an object, watch it come to life, then control it... I would say that's pretty innovative. You forgot Eye of Judgement though. Fun game but costs a lot like most trading card games do.
I mean gimmicks take time to become something amazing. Look at the Wii. That thing is just one big gimmick. We are in year 2, innovation takes time. Rushing things out due to unmet demand pretty much would just piss you off for getting a bunch of unpolished mechanics.I'd suggest relaxing and not being so critical. It'll help in the long run as well as the short term.
strike @ Aug 20th 2008 12:21PM
This MUST be the game that reporter was talking about. It will change the way we look at games forever..............
venom @ Aug 20th 2008 12:56PM
i hope i will be able to care a snake like in real life i love my pet snakes ;)
Henry @ Aug 20th 2008 1:08PM
If you already have a real pet snake, whats the point in getting a virtual one?
leatherface @ Aug 20th 2008 4:20PM
zing!!!!
StaticKevin @ Aug 20th 2008 10:18PM
Yeah, go pet your snake.
Chnkylovrr53 @ Aug 20th 2008 1:07PM

x) Pet game
x) Keypad
x) Singstar versions for turkish people and Disney fans
x) Another SKU
x) LBP - in two months
x) Video service - in a year
x) And there's this game to be released in 1 1/2 yrs or so that may be some kind of cool although I'm not convinced yet.
WOW.
drdre74 @ Aug 20th 2008 1:58PM
will the eye toy even be out in a year and half? I mean does anyone even use it or bought one? Its not like its selling like hot cakes or have anything even half ass worth buying.
bbcorps @ Aug 20th 2008 8:10PM
my brother plays the card game (eye of jusitice?) that came with the camera almost evry day butto me this looks like more fun ^_^
Laurens Holst @ Aug 21st 2008 7:25AM
I primarily bought/use the Eye for its microphone… So I can talk in games without needing a headset.
Ves @ Aug 20th 2008 2:04PM
Seems the cuteness is starting to become a trend.
Tim Parsons @ Aug 20th 2008 2:13PM
Sweet my kids will love that a first day Buy!!! that looks pretty amazing actually
gillyallan114 @ Aug 20th 2008 2:16PM
PS eye cam WILL sell big since its the only thing supported in littleBigPlanet.
John S @ Aug 20th 2008 2:45PM
The part where the kid drew the car and it came to life totally reminded me of what those developers were messing around with. I dunno if people remember the video but the guys drew tanks and were able to make it come to life. They basically made a little tank game. Really sweet stuff.
thinkofmeasmra @ Aug 20th 2008 3:54PM
i was thinking that too. The way the pet is displayed in 3D is pretty innovative. I actually think its pretty impressive.
Chris @ Aug 20th 2008 3:08PM
I Wonder weither you can punch it or pick it up and throw it away to KILL IT!
Carlton @ Aug 20th 2008 4:40PM
If the monkey eats your cigarettes, you can throw him into the sea.
Soapy911 @ Aug 20th 2008 6:34PM
this looks interesting.
if its not as sh!tty as aquatopia.
stupid virtual fishys
Hammer Vance @ Aug 20th 2008 6:43PM
The people who are perplexed by this or brushing it aside simply because there is no "Frag counter" for how many of these crazy adorable things you can nuke (interesting patch on PSN though)...i think your missing the point of how important this is. First of all i like an online headshot as much as any fellow, but this little video has me just as excited as the first time i saw a Little Big Planet demo vid. Look at the innovation here, this is a future niche of where games are going, and its already been seen before though in a much more esoteric form (Eye of Judgment)...also for a system with such an overall mature set of games, this is a GREAT way to rope in younger crowds that no longer need a W!!mote to point and click but can now pet the very air to interact with their entertainment. Regardless if this interests you or now, don't shrug off its innovation.
Annoyer @ Aug 20th 2008 7:02PM
just a add comment spam-click test.
NukeAssault @ Aug 20th 2008 7:03PM
I... want this. So bad...
maximumpwr @ Aug 20th 2008 8:06PM
i have to agreee with hammer vance. it does seem very innovative to say the least, especially the part where the drawn out car came to life. it is a good way to get the younger crowds interested in the ps3
exetermako @ Aug 20th 2008 9:24PM
Okay, I'll admit it... it looks fun. It would be kinda cool if you're PS3 was hooked up to a projector and turned on as soon as you got home so the pet was all like "OH HAI!" as if it was a dog after you got home from work.
e.Missark @ Aug 20th 2008 9:59PM
Hammer vance is right. PS Eye technology has the potential to trounce the Wiimote if done right.
Also, I'm a 21 yr old male and I'm not afraid to say that this is something I will buy and play with once it is out.
Marty @ Aug 20th 2008 11:04PM
I'm excited because it yet another reason to justify the PS3 hooked up to the main TV.
'Hey, the kids will love this! Get back in the kitchen!!'
Ballard @ Aug 21st 2008 12:51AM
all i think is... "don't let it get wet and absolutly don't feed it after midnight!"
trespasser @ Aug 21st 2008 10:04AM
Where's the spank the monkey angle.
