Aussies not getting 160GB PS3, PlayTV confirmed for 2009

Looking forward to the 160GB PS3? Then we hope you are not in Australia, for you will not be getting the configuration. Though the new 80GB configuration is still headed your way on August 28th for AU $699, which includes a single DualShock 3 controller.

Now onto the good news: the wireless keypad attachment has been confirmed to debut "before the end of the year." PlayTV is also confirmed for Australia in the "first half of 2009." Though with the recent reduction in features, we wonder if you guys Down Under still want the DVB-T tuner peripheral.

This shouldn't be a big deal. . for about $100 you can get 320G HDD these days. . so just buy the cheapest and upgrade it which takes 5 minutes. . .

i wouldn't say that, the PS3 here sells more then the XBox360. Second to the obvious Wii. It's just the games that are too expensive =[

Other then that our internet sucks balls.. online play my ass lol...

Watching you buy an overpriced system which is no different to the previous.

This SKU is one of the worst I've seen from Sony.

I'd be more surprised if we DID get the system here. Ever since the PS3 has come out, Australia seems to only get the gimped units

Why would you want to buy this prepackaged 160g PS3 anyway???? Just get the normal PS3 and get a 320gig HDD and swap it over, takes minutes if you have nothing to back up! and is so simple... HDDs are dirt cheap Thats the beauty of PS3 you can easily put any size 2.5 SATA laptop drive in it The instructions are in the manual or on the internet....Just get the regular 40gig and put your own huge HDD in, its one of the best features of PS3!!! Kudos to Sony for giving us the freedom to put non propriety HDDs in our PS3s

Well said cg. When I saw this SKU announced I just rolled my eyes. If Sony wanted to impress, release a 250Gb PS3 now while it's still an impressive 2.5" drive size.

Personally I'm using an external 3.5" drive (eSata) hooked in through a HDXT so my 'internal' drive is 1TB. If you intend on really using your PS3 for all it's worth 40Gb is a joke, 80Gb isn't much better and 160Gb is barely adequate. With Play TV and the Video Store not to mention more and more downloadable content arriving every day, people will find their HDDs overflowing in no time. I filled my 250Gb in no time!

damn it SONY!..i wanted to buy a 2nd ps3...eh..guess ill import one from the US...then i can atleast get in to US Home...if its real....

The only gimped ps3 Aus got was the 40gig..the 60 is pure gold ;) ...unless you wanted hardware BC.....ah damn it sony..
