Far Cry 2: console video walkthrough
Download to PSP
Ubisoft made quite an impression with its latest console footage of Far Cry 2. While we'd like to say that it's simply the gameplay that caught our attention, we'll admit that this is purely for the eye candy. We're impressed to see that the console version looks just as good as the PC. Word to Ubisoft, though: can we please have a little bit of color into this unusually bleak representation of Africa?

looks awesome! getting this for sure!
Eggy @ Aug 25th 2008 8:29AM
The console version won't look as good as the PC version unless the devs are really sloppy.
The RaZor @ Aug 25th 2008 9:18AM
Who really cares?
I want the game play to be great before I start nit picking on the graphics.

Color? this is what Africa looks like. bleak, brown, heat filled and lush green here and there.
MarioAna @ Aug 25th 2008 8:31AM
Hahaha, that guy at the end says in Afrikaans "Hoe smaak jy daai, poepol?"
Which means "How do you like that, a$$hole?"
Direct translation is "How taste you that, ass"? LOL.
Topsu @ Aug 25th 2008 8:44AM
This will be awesome! Over 40 square-km of lovely sandbox space, mostly African savanna and deep jungle!! Think about multiplayer games there :O I have really wild thoughts in my mind now, and I've never been this hyped. And I almost got erection when hyping GTA IV :D
Clearly GOTY, although this hasn't got the attention it truly deserves.
supersickie @ Aug 25th 2008 8:57AM
I bet you're imagining some "Most Dangerous Game" type scenarios. Good for you. :)

i cant see the video.
do i need to download anything?
Albanian_Killa @ Aug 25th 2008 9:18AM
I just hope this is running at 720p minimum and isn't sub-HD in order to play the game at a good frame rate. I also hope that it doesn't have auto-aim like Call of Duty 4. Looking great so far though.
Phantom @ Aug 25th 2008 10:05AM
does it really mater when it looks so good anyway .
JohnHype @ Aug 25th 2008 9:32AM
You know, we really could do without the, "OMG, and some color in the last month of development plz," in every post about every game, ever. Play Halo if you want a Rainbow Brite FPS game. I'm glad other companies actually get the idea that a war should look bleak for the most part. That's part of how you set the mood in movies and games.
thinkofmeasmra @ Aug 25th 2008 1:21PM
Good point and I understand that completely, but half the engagement is what you said, the setting. So if im supposed to be in Africa and im looking around at what looks nothing like Africa, half the illusion is gone right there. So setting a 'bleak' tone for war setting that im supposed to be feeling that just happens to make a less realistic environment im playing it doesnt exactly make it feel more realistic now does it. And on that note, Iraq is bright and sunny yet theres a war. and COD 4 was bright and sunny in many parts of the game...as was MG4 and those are arguably the best 2 shooters out there.
I think theres a balance

@PS3 fanboy:
You guys have been criticizing this game for a while, yet it will be one of the very best games to hit our console. Day 1 purchase for me. Bet it will get universal acclaim.
Andrew Yoon @ Aug 25th 2008 10:04AM
"we're impressed" = us bashing the game? Strange.
JohnHype @ Aug 25th 2008 9:35AM
If you want an FPS that was designed on a lite-bright, play Halo. I'm glad that most other developers have figured out that if you want to set the proper mood for these types of games you should do the same thing film makers do: control the color palette.
Regardless, do we really need a, "Hey guys, could you add some colors in the last month of development? Thanks," in every post about every game? This trend from reviewers is really tired.

The Add Comment button does what it says bro.

"We're impressed to see that the console version looks just as good as the PC"
lol, it looks good but it simply won't look as good as the PC version, the consoles simply can't match the constantly evolving PC hardware.
Huschke @ Aug 25th 2008 10:23AM
You can say what you want about Blizzard, but they would never let some eye-candy brownish color palette ruin their gameplay.
Nathanical @ Aug 25th 2008 10:25AM
the problem i have with FC2 is the fact that its open world. I know thats the whole point of it, but there are ppl who dont think Open World is the holy grail of gaming. My problem with it is, that like alot of open world games, unless the story is effing spectacular (which i doubt very much it will be), im generally gonna ignore it in favour of the open world aspect. This is AWESOME to start with, but gets VERY old VERY quickly for some1 like me. I just do what i want aimlessly for the first couple of days, then it gets boring and becomes and expensive beer mat. This has very much been true with every OW game ive played, including th GTA games and Oblivion.
this is just my opinion ofc
Emophia @ Aug 25th 2008 10:30AM
Sound design is really nice if that video is any indication.
And no regular aiming reticule if you're not using Iron sights?
bluespike @ Aug 25th 2008 10:32AM
the trees look great, everything else looks so ugly.
Fenix @ Aug 25th 2008 10:36AM
It sais console footage but, which console? Looks awesome to me...
Devin @ Aug 25th 2008 12:12PM
Good questions. I hope they take advantage of PS3's HW because it will look better than 360 if they do. Whether this is the case, I don't know.
more bad asser @ Aug 25th 2008 12:38PM
Probably 360 footage. I have yet to see any PS3-specific footage of this game. :(
saito ps3 @ Aug 25th 2008 1:57PM
this may not be a day one pick up for me considering all the other dang games coming out the same day, why do developers do that? pick different dates! lol, but this game looks great
Waqman @ Aug 25th 2008 3:55PM
Amazing. Sadly it will be overlooked this holiday season. Nobody even mentions it usually.
Iridium @ Aug 25th 2008 5:35PM
Does anyone else think that looked extremely boring. The graphics looked pretty good but the overall action looked to play out just about the same as a FPS from 1997.
When I heard about it being an open world shooter I knew it probably wouldn't be any good. Probably no story and no real objective other than running around and taking out checkpoints.
The game just didn't look like any fun.
oludemilade mujib raji @ Aug 25th 2008 10:51PM
Don't generalize all of Africa as weak. I come from a very colorful African Country.
Pointz @ Aug 26th 2008 2:05AM
Even Lion King was kinda brown and that was by disney. I'm sure there'll be colourful moments in this game. But someone said the lack of colors will ruin the gaming experience = how?
Ihatebioshock @ Aug 26th 2008 9:04AM
PC all the way. And I'm a big PS3 fan (for every other kind of game). Crysis absolutely rocked on my 'fast' PC and this will too.
Also no matter how much time passes I can not lie to myself and say I like FPS's on console, controlling a human like a tank. :( Looks well annoying.
Mouse/KBD all the way (hopefully you can use a mouse OK on the PS3 version at least).
Ihatebioshock @ Aug 26th 2008 9:07AM
PC all the way for this game. Not even mentioning the obvious control bonus (unless you plug a mouse in the ps3).
