Kojima hints at involvement in future MGS titles
Hideo Kojima sat down in an interview with Kikizo to discuss everything from his age to Killzone 2 to his possible involvement in the next Metal Gear Solid title. To start things off, let's all wish Mr. Kojima a happy belated birthday, who turned 45 years old this past Sunday.
Kikizo notes that the influential developer has stated he wants to stop working on the MGS series after the completion of every game since MGS2. Kojima insists that he still feels that way, even currently, but because of "political, business or technology reasons, there is always a time when I have to return ... when we look ten years into the future, maybe yes, I may well end up spending more time on the Metal Gear series!"
When questioned about his trademark long cutscenes, Kojima had this to say: "In MGS4, yes, I put everything in the cut sequences, which I kind of regret to some extent, because maybe there is a new approach which I should think about." He feels games like Halo and Bioshock, while brilliant in their own ways, "lack a kind of deeper storyline or the expression of the feelings of the characters." He thinks the key is to somehow offer both the freedom of an interactive story and the emotions brought on by FMVs. It looks like we'll definitely be hearing more from the famed video game designer, whether it is another MGS title or something entirely new. For more, the full interview can be read here.

He's done a good job with MGS, now it's time to let others continue MGS and for Kojima to work on a new IP.

I think MGS4's a great send-off to a fantastic series. Anything new released now would feel tacked-on, perhaps a new substory not related to 'Solid' at all?
Bishop99999999 @ Aug 25th 2008 6:28PM
Kojima, don't be bad-mouthing Bioshock. You could learn a few things from it.
Metal_Gear @ Aug 25th 2008 6:41PM
"While brilliant in their own ways" mean nothing to you?
ryan @ Aug 25th 2008 6:49PM
i hope he keeps the cutscene/gameplay ratio in favor of more extended cutscenes.
that way i can use youtube again as a means of "playing" MGS. :P

Bishop, he said something good about it.
And you could learn something from a reading teacher.

KOJIMA and MGS FTW! Happy Birthday Mr.Kojima! Now onto the topic, Kojima should be involved in the next MGS game and I hope it will be a prequel set between the events of MGS2 and MGS4. Raiden's on a mission to Area 51 in order to free Sunny from The Patriots. Once again, Snake and Otacon join in for support and who knows what is awaiting them there. Snake accelerated aging first symptoms appear. Raiden turning into a cyborg. Everything needs to be explained in details. Kojima, enough with the break, head to work before we start sending death threats letters to you. Kojima, you're the man.
John-Paul-Jones @ Aug 25th 2008 8:24PM
True. I have always wondered if Hideo Kojima would make a game that chronicles the events between Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4. That would be awesome.
ST @ Aug 25th 2008 9:31PM
Wouldn't work, would render the MGS4 plot between Snake and Raiden meaningless, not to mention feel like a tired MGS2.
I'm sure they'll continue the franchise, there's simply too much money in it not too. What I'm afraid of however is Konami drilling out half hearted PSP titles and the like, treating it like a cash cow. Unfortunately, too, the only way now is backwards, so Big Boss and FOXHOUND/Raiden are the only viable options if they want to stick to the main branch of the series. Solid SNNAAAAAKKKE! is finished :(

*SPOILERS*
The next MGS game will likely be another Big Boss installment involving his rescue of EVA from Hanoi in coordination with Zero and Adam and subsequently the foundation of the Patriots. It would lead directly into the events of Portable Ops.
Metal_Gear @ Aug 25th 2008 6:43PM
Rumor has it, MGS5 is already in its planning stages and it is going to add more to Big Boss' past, my hope is it will be before MGS3 as I want to learn more about The Boss.
Da @ Aug 25th 2008 8:25PM
no no no. We can't learn about The Boss, that'd break everything.
Metal Gear began at The Boss's grave.
Metal Gear ended at The Boss's grave.
The1stMJC @ Aug 25th 2008 6:50PM
I completely agree with the HALO BIOSHOCK topic
massive_98 @ Aug 25th 2008 7:14PM
I'd like to see a new IP from him. Something in a totally new direction.

What about ZoE3? Or some new franchise? Am I the only one which got disappointed by MGS4?
GiRiSh @ Aug 26th 2008 12:48AM
well...he put his soul and heart in MGS4 and the game came out AMAZING.
If there is going to be another MGS game, I'd hoped it's made by him only.

Metal Gear Solid 5: Return of The Veterans
Snake in his super wheelchair packed with mini guns, rocket-launchers.. and of course, wheelchair camo.
But watch out! If spotted, your oxygen levels will decrease, resulting in a higher risk of heart attack.
Nah, I keed :3
Saeth @ Aug 26th 2008 2:41AM
So uh, when are we going to get tired of MGS games? They're good but it's honestly the same shit over, and over, and over, and over.
Sneak, sneak, sneak, uh oh gotta put that guard to sleep, now lets throw him up and down forever for some loot, sneak, sneak, sneak, cutscene, boss fight
darthug @ Aug 26th 2008 9:43AM
Big deal. I'm one of that rare breed who thinks MGS is shit.
