LittleBigPlanet contains copyright system
In a game like LittleBigPlanet, sharing user generated content is a big part of the experience. Ever more so, protecting one's personal creations is going to be an even bigger issue. With players expected to swap content daily, one has to wonder how will players control the distribution of unique content in the do-it-yourself platformer?
The answer is that the game will utilize a simple system called "copyright" which is not the same as the legal sense. Players can "copyright" objects which are collectibles in their levels; copyright items can be used by the people who've collected them, but they won't be able to alter your content or give it away to others. Non-copyright items can be edited and shared freely by anyone. Additionally, you can control who is allowed to use your levels by setting a difficulty rating and/or giving away invite keys.

stephen, what is your premise(s) for this claim?...or do you need to thank stargate for finishing your sentence?
AdrianXIII @ Aug 26th 2008 11:50PM
Seems fair enough.

neato, should help to encourage the very creative users to feel safe with their content they spent forever to make. though this system might also be somewhat inhibitory to progress in some levels.

Seems smart :) but one can easily watch how the copyrighted item was build, write it down/record it and then do your own build and alter it as you want.
But still a good idea.

Exactly what i was thinking. Still cool of them to give us the option.
Emyrs @ Aug 27th 2008 1:12AM
i REALLY like this idea! i was worried about making something that could then just be ripped off, changed in a subtle way and then pawned off as a unique item. I am so glad to hear about this "copyright' system!

Wow, talk about confusing people over copyright laws. How many kids will get pissed off when their "copyrighted" works are used in ads by playstation?
The_Doctor @ Aug 27th 2008 1:52AM
I don't think any "kids" are gonna be worried about copyright issues unless parents tell them.

I think they would rather be bragging to their friends for weeks about how something they made is on TV.

This isn't really 'copyright', It's more like a 'Creative Commons Attribution-Non-Commercial-No Derivative Works' right.

I must be the only person who just isn't interested in this game ! I don't see the fuss about a platformer .
Perhaps as i was brought up with the classic gaming machines like the 48k spectrum and commodore 64 which where overloaded with amazing platformers like Jet Set Willy , Manic Miner , Monty Mole, Dizzy , Jack the Nipper this has maybe done something to my thirst for another platformer .
User created levels is all and well but its still a platformer at heart , sadly this isn't any 1942 or Battlefield 2 , Halflife etc which all had amazing user generated levels .
I really really hope i'm wrong as I don't want to piss on anyones parade but if it is successful and after the hype has died down if people still say its good I will pick it up on the cheap ( remember GTAIV for over hype )
Popfrogs @ Aug 27th 2008 12:52PM
Yeah, not everybody "gets it". If you don't care about platformers, if you're not creative, and you can't stand cute characters, you probably won't buy it. Which is fine...since you're not the demographic anyway.

pure awesomeness!!!
