Make outstanding LBP levels, land a job at Media Molecule
It's slightly ironic to be writing an article about 'getting a job' on Labor Day; however, the work we speak of is probably one you won't want to take a holiday from. In an interview with CVG, Media Molecule's Pete Smith spoke about the possibility of recruiting top LittleBigPlanet community designers to join the Britain-based team.
"We will be aware of who those awesome designers are and certainly there's the potential to get them building levels as part of the dev team," said Smith. With LittleBigPlanet coming out on October 29 in Europe (open October date for other regions), that gives starry-eyed, yet Hotpocket-breathed gamers just about two months to start planning outthose designs a curriculum vitae.

Clever, see who the awesome undiscovered devs are, and recruit them.

Mario Remakes FTW!!
SuperGayParade @ Sep 1st 2008 1:49PM
Nope, they're looking for CREATIVE people, not copycats
Phantom @ Sep 1st 2008 1:58PM
Well maybe if your remake level is REALLLY good , that consider and interview , because at least you have skills enough to copy .
Dylan @ Sep 1st 2008 12:18PM
...my jaw just dropped and i can't find it now..This is my dream. I was going to get LBP but now i definitely getting it.

This is why Sony should buy Media Molecule or at least set up a relationship akin to Insomniac.
=Curve= @ Sep 1st 2008 5:29PM
After everything Sony are doing for this game, and all the help and support they've been given, I think MM will stay PS3 exclusive for a long time.
Remember, they are a group of 25 people, 23 of them made the game...
j.howlett @ Sep 1st 2008 12:59PM
cool. my first level will probably be my take on burn the rope.
Jerses @ Sep 1st 2008 1:17PM
i hope lbp have keyboard and mouse support :S i find it hard to make something with just the two sticks. i will probably get tired with my level design. Just like "PHUN" ( lbp without the sackboys). It was cool making cars and moving things, destroying things ,etc, etc. But then i was all over... i hope this isnt the case for LBP
Scott @ Sep 1st 2008 1:23PM
They were saying October 21st release at PAX.
Wink @ Sep 1st 2008 1:25PM
Wondering if the guys at Activision/Neversoft will do the same thing with Guitar Hero: World Tour and its music creation tools.
They hired that guy who was really good at Tony Hawk. ;)
Darth_Xehanort @ Sep 15th 2008 9:04AM
Sony, you need to just buy Media Molecule. Or, at least set up a relation with them like Insomniac.
Phantom @ Sep 1st 2008 2:00PM
Wait , so only British people will get a chance to join , or will they have some kind of online workplace or whatever .
massive_98 @ Sep 1st 2008 2:11PM
Everyone get to make levels in the "online workplace" but this will probably a desk job at Media Molecule HQ.
BananaBoat @ Sep 1st 2008 4:59PM
This is the 21st century you know...such things as boats, aeroplanes and work visas exist.
I'd freaking SWIM to England to work for Media Molecule
Phantom @ Sep 1st 2008 6:04PM
well yeah , but moving all the way to england , that's a thousand dollar flight , a new apartment , learning a (kinda) different langauge , thatn either buying new furniture or paying to have your old stuff sent to england .
Then comes the adjusment .
I guess I would move tho if I got the chance , and they waited a few years .
P @ Sep 1st 2008 8:08PM
Could you repeat that Phantom, i couldnt understand because of our (kinda) different language :P
I dont quite understand why people think its a full time developer job they're offering. Consider what they've said, based on the levels people have made, they may recruit them as designers. Now, tell me if im wrong, but wouldnt someone coming in as a GAME designer need a little bit more knowledge than how to make a nice LBP level??
To me, this points in the direction of people creating things for MM, which they can then release, either for mutual profit, or for free. I just dont see anything here which suggests people quitting jobs and joining MM, everything they are talking about is LBP related, making levels for them, and no more than that. It seems people are reading far more into it and booking flights already :P
Keep the crayons out but leave the passport in your socks & undies draw ;)
Byron517 @ Sep 2nd 2008 1:02AM
P your comment floored me LMAO HA HA HA that right there made my evening!! Thanks mate!!
massive_98 @ Sep 1st 2008 2:03PM
Has anyone else already been thinking about/planning levels? I have.
I'm not in the UK and have no desires to be a game developer. However this is a great opportunity for jobseekers and the end result should be even more quality levels from the UK.
doc j @ Sep 1st 2008 2:43PM
that's it. i'm dropping out of med school.
kentuckyfried @ Sep 1st 2008 10:11PM
*sigh* ahh, the dream...if I could only give my current employer the middle finger and ditch this dead-end engineering job..
IDontLikeYou (Much) @ Sep 1st 2008 3:04PM
woohoo! i always wanted a job as a game dev, and i live in the UK! maybe this is my ticket?? i already have 2 level designs in mind.. Mm here i come!
Sinistar @ Sep 1st 2008 3:18PM
Anyone know if you can make custom character animations on LBP or it it just levels?
Metal_Gear @ Sep 1st 2008 6:10PM
Animations? The characters arms are controlled with the analogue sticks.
ClarkyCat @ Sep 1st 2008 6:17PM
Wow, possibly THE most misleading post in the history of this blog. "Certainly there's the potential..." that's hardly a concrete job opportunity now is it? Merely a way to sell more copies of the game.
It's like saying the idiots who upload their videos of SingStar are going to become worldwide pop music sensations!
Copland @ Sep 1st 2008 7:20PM
I wonder if foreign people will get hired.
Its a company which has 25 people,
I guess it'll be hard for them to employ someone outside
of their country and burden the fee it takes to move to
England.
If they are willing to, and luckily get hired,
I'll be happy to move to England.
I actually get to watch EPL ... cough cough... sorry,
I get to join a really creative team :)
kentuckyfried @ Sep 1st 2008 10:14PM
as usual, the odds will likely be 1 job out of 200,000 people submitting designs...media molecule can't possibly have that much money at this point to hire large numbers of staff.
mr_bambino_dent @ Oct 11th 2008 3:28AM
iT'S REALLY A NICE IDEA
