Mirror's Edge to have PS3-exclusive DLC
A number of you sent in a tip last week regarding SCEE president David Reeves, who was quoted as saying Mirror's Edge will be a timed exclusive on the PS3. Well, it isn't true. It looks like that was "a misunderstanding in terms of the quote," a Sony spokesperson told Eurogamer. But the representative did have something else to say. "PlayStation has an exclusive marketing agreement with EA regarding the title. Exclusive downloadable content will be offered on the PlayStation Network."
No other details regarding the DLC were given at this time, such as the nature of the content or whether other platforms will get exclusive DLC as well. Considering the big bucks the PS3 is bringing to EA, we wouldn't be surprised if this is just another way for them show they play nice with Sony.

kloteradyingrose @ Sep 3rd 2008 2:45AM
as long as it's not something like GTA IV's 360 exclusive DLC. Have they even released that yet?
j.howlett @ Sep 2nd 2008 8:55AM
this game looks amazing. i'm eager to get my hands on it to try it out and to learn more about the dlc
kentuckyfried @ Sep 2nd 2008 8:55AM
wow...ps3 owners getting exclusive DLC? that's a first.
Garth @ Sep 2nd 2008 9:14AM
Interesting that EA is "playing nice" with Sony on one hand, but then also releasing Rock Band 2 a month later then the 360 version.
strike @ Sep 2nd 2008 9:01AM
Good to see
Antony_256 @ Sep 2nd 2008 9:06AM
Let's hope it will be available at release date, not like GTAIV.
j.howlett @ Sep 2nd 2008 9:52AM
dlc at launch that cost money is kind of a rip. if it's going to come that early it might as well come with the game on disc. it also depends on the nature of the content.
ryan @ Sep 2nd 2008 12:47PM
i agree, it really depends on the game and how much you like it. if it's at launch you'd complain that it wasn't in the final game. if it's months down the line, will you even be interested anymore? more than likely you'll want to move on to the next 'big thing'.
Whoppy @ Sep 2nd 2008 9:12AM
Myeh, if it's something similar to Burnout Paradise style DLC which is exclusive then it's a coup. If it's the chance to purchase new skins etc etc then it shall be a poup.
drdre74 @ Sep 2nd 2008 9:21AM
it's about time someone showed some love to the PS3. yeah its not gonna be as big as GTA DLC for 360 I'm sure but something is better than nothing i guess.

EA said they aren't in any position to talk about DLC for Mirror's Edge. (http://au.ps3.ign.com/articles/906/906952p1.html)
It'll probably still be true, but yeah, looks like Sony jumped the gun a bit. I'd be excited too to get exclusive DLC :D
Derevartives @ Sep 2nd 2008 9:41AM
That's great, I'd much rather have DLC for a game like Mirros Edge then GTA.
Not that GTA isn't a fantastic game, but DLC is a much better fit with linear games that doesn't last for 30 hours.
ryan @ Sep 2nd 2008 12:47PM
yeah, expansion packs for rpgs like Oblivion are totally not worth it.
TinyTim121 @ Sep 2nd 2008 9:43AM
Great!
This will definitely persuade mutli console owners to get the PS3 version. However, will it persuade people not planning on getting mirrors edge to change their minds?
jarhead906 @ Sep 2nd 2008 10:13AM
Exclusive DLC is getting pretty tiresome with third party games. Why should PS3 fans not get the opportunity to experience the GTA IV content that 360 users do (or vice versa)? Eventually, that 'exclusivity' will end and both sides will get a chance at it, but paying companies in advance to not support the opposition in certain ways (M$, lookin' at you!) is plain stupid.
TONY @ Sep 2nd 2008 12:19PM
I agree the doc agreements just isolate one fan base over an other, I hope this is just a fad that will to away in the near future
chris.westermann @ Sep 2nd 2008 10:16AM
Yeah, win one for the good guys.
I really hope that companies like EA start to realize that the PS3 is not just a flash in the pants game console, that with two previous huge successfull Sony Playstation release (3 if you count the PSP), Sony is in this for the long haul and deserver their respect. As the Xbox360 starts showing signs of age, I think any game developer not looking to the PS3 as either is primary development platform, or even as an increasingly popular platform for exclusives will be fool hardy.
R_Shackelford @ Sep 2nd 2008 2:13PM
Er... the term is "flash in the pan." If the PS3 ever gave you a "flash in the pants," you need to get out more.
frankym @ Sep 2nd 2008 10:20AM
Now THIS is a game that DLC would be great for; NOT GTAIV. Day 1 purchase for me!!
will @ Sep 2nd 2008 11:01AM
DLC? it's hard to be excited when I still don't know if I'm going to like the game at all.
Xoviet chiK @ Sep 2nd 2008 11:06AM
Darnit... I wish this exclusive DLC stuff would just stop. Everyone should be able to experience the full game no matter which platform they purchase it for.
Hope it's at least worthwhile, I just changed my preorder for my most anticipated game.
SuperGayParade @ Sep 2nd 2008 11:25AM
damn communist. oh, and multi-system owning communist... oh, and defaults to 360 multiplat games communist. way to lead the revolution
Xoviet chiK @ Sep 2nd 2008 1:28PM
Wait, what? Are you alright?
massive_98 @ Sep 2nd 2008 11:18AM
I still can't believe PS3 is EA's #1 money maker. I just don't understand how games sell less copies on PS3 and still make more money?
Xoviet chiK @ Sep 2nd 2008 11:23AM
I always figured it had more to do with their cost of porting the software to the PS3. Spend all that development time and money on 360, spend a little to port it to various consoles, handhelds, and computer OSs.
Sell a 2 million on 360 and recoup your losses, sell 1.5 million on PS3 and bank it all. Who knows.
SuperGayParade @ Sep 2nd 2008 11:25AM
nope, wrong, biased again
Fiddlesworth @ Sep 2nd 2008 12:23PM
Mirror's Edge is leading development on PS3.
DiggerDaniels @ Sep 2nd 2008 2:03PM
It's quite simple. You only see sales figures for your own little retarded country. Globally PS3 is HUGE, In both Europe and Japan, it's got a higher installbase than the 360. In the US that gap is closing fast.
In addition, PS3 owners buy more games (I suppose because they don't get stiffed for all them extras like XBL fees, HDD upgrades and Wifi adapters).
Xoviet chiK @ Sep 2nd 2008 8:57PM
Europe is also a smaller market (as is Japan, which really doesn't account for too much of EA's annual software sales anyways). And it's not like EA's biggest title, Madden, is selling much in Europe. Neither is Rock Band (isn't even on PS3 in PAL territories) or Command & Conquer 3 (again, 360 only everywhere).
Only big multiplatform EA titles that I see a lot of my European friends playing are FIFA and Army of Two, and neither of those have sold in great enough numbers for PS3 in Europe to put PS3 on top.
That argument just doesn't work, not even in this little retarded country.
Mark @ Sep 2nd 2008 2:04PM

PS3 owners buy more games? lol 360 Software sales in NA & EU> PS3 software sales JP/EU/US combined.
