Official PS3 headset priced at 5000 yen in Japan
The official PS3 headset, which will be bundled with SOCOM Confrontation, really may be as high as $50 when it releases as a standalone product later this year. This would make the $60 SOCOM bundle an obvious deal, as it would give players both the headset and access to the online shooter for only $10 more than the headset alone.
The headset, which will debut on October 30th in Japan, will cost 5000 yen (~$45.93). It is supposedly of a much higher quality than the headset included with Warhawk last year.

well lets hope the sound quality is good, Sony should place 1 with a PS3 so that everyone can communicate
jarhead906 @ Sep 2nd 2008 10:40AM
Yeah if it ends up being $45 - 50.00 alone, then I'm just going to end up buying the SOCOM bundle, even if I don't necessarily enjoy the genre. ALL I WANT IS A HEADSET THAT ACTUALLY WORKS 100% WITH THE PS3 AND TURNS ON AND WORKS WHEN YOU WANT IT TO!!!

I thought the warhawk headset was weak.

I have a headset that I use with my phone that woulds great in COD4 and NBA2k8 but works like crap in metal gear online.

So is it actually Sony who's making these? IDK why they compare this on to the Warhawk one.. When Jabra made that one not Sony.. Either way Im looking forward to getting it with the Socom bundle.. Its smart (the price point) if you look at it.. People will just end up getting the bundle = more software sales

Any news on a british price?
Also, the way those pictures were taken..... you'd think it's a supermodel, not a head set.....

50$ dam....good thing i pre-ordered the socom bundle

I still use the "warhawk headset" with my PS3 and Sidekick LX, only problem I've ever had with that is the lil earhook breakin every once in a while. I'm definitely pickin up the Socom bundle tho. It'll b nice 2 have the cradle 4 quick charging and u can't beat that price.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Sep 2nd 2008 11:27AM
damn i know its a Bluetooth headset and all, but $50 is too much for my liking. especially with as little as i actually use the one i have now (Warhawk headset).
Averna @ Sep 2nd 2008 8:06PM
Yeah? I paid $120AUD for my headset (Plantronic) and I havent used it on the PS3 since. I actually want the SOCOM bundle for the new headset, just because it has better features.
I would say the standalone price is spot on. Have a look at some of the other quality sets. If you pay $15 for a headset, you get a $15 headset and most of the headsets on eBay are fake (trust me I have one of those too, $12AUD)
j.howlett @ Sep 2nd 2008 11:28AM
i'm going for the bundle anyway but the price is in line with what i've seen in stores and from some makers websites. i also found cheaper prices online
JAH75157 @ Sep 2nd 2008 12:09PM
this is why i'm allready preordering the bundle. even if the game turns out to suck i'll be getting a game for 10-15 bucks.
jangaboo @ Sep 2nd 2008 12:21PM
will this give you brain cancer like cellphones?
NotoriousB-O-B @ Sep 2nd 2008 12:42PM
It better be better than the Warhawk headset. I never even got that one to work....
Albanian_Killa @ Sep 2nd 2008 1:36PM
I'm already getting the SOCOM bundle since SOCOM was the only reason I bought a PS3 at launch (I assumed it would come over before it was even announced). SOCOM is the best military shooter in my opinion and gets realism, and everything else perfectly. I don't think I'll be getting Resistance 2 (although I can't miss out on LittleBigPlanet) because SOCOM: Confrontation will dominate my play time.
Mattchewie @ Sep 2nd 2008 2:13PM
I agree with doug. The one thing that does hurt, especially in warhawk is the lack of voice enabled players. I believe one reason is all the janky sets out there that give background noises that sound like drunk ja-wahs. It gets really annoying really fast. So if this set reduces that I think it would be a smart move on sony's part to FOREVER include a set in a bundle to get people talking.
Outside of that I think its also of urgency to get out cross game voice chat...or at least make direct communication available so I can talk to my friend while we try to find a server to get into etc. Waiting to actually join a game to get BT up and running is the pits.
ericdj @ Sep 2nd 2008 2:41PM
I bet this headset will still cut out all the time.
shawn @ Sep 2nd 2008 2:27PM
Will this headset work with my cellphone, computer etc...
Albanian_Killa @ Sep 2nd 2008 5:33PM
Yes it will.
lorddshadow @ Sep 2nd 2008 5:44PM
as long as they're bluetooth compatible, it should.
pat1202003 @ Sep 2nd 2008 6:01PM
$50 for a headset!!! I might as well get the SOCOM bundle for $60, keep the headset and sell the game on ebay for $50. That way I only pay $10 for a headset. Mahaha!
BooGz @ Nov 11th 2008 4:22PM
I just bought one of these head sets on ebay, wanted to know if u have to have that passcode for it to work?
thanks
