Lumines Supernova coming to PSN this Fall
A brand new PS3-exclusive version of the popular Q Entertainment puzzle game is coming. The game is titled Lumines Supernova and will be an e-distributed game -- just like the Xbox Live version.
This PSN game will be pretty much the same deal as previous Lumines games, but with new stages and modes. There are 40 skins to be unlocked in Challenge Mode, and there are a slew of news modes, including Dig Down Mode and Sequencer Mode. Dig Down appears to be a Lumines-inspired version of Dig Dug, while Sequencer Mode allows players to create their own background music using various sounds and loops.
The first screenshots are included in our new gallery.

I hope they've polished up the graphics a bit and it runs at 1080p. The XBLA version looks a little rough. Vector graphics all-round would be nice but I doubt we'll see that.

Yay! That was always a fun game. They should give it to us free if we own the PSP version.. like load the UMD and connect it up or something.

thats like saying loading up metal gear solid 3 and we get 4 for free.

KiraXD @ Sep 3rd 2008 1:25PM
Rez HD: Remix (i already have xbl version... they need a newer one with sixaxis controls, and level editors (edit levels to play along your own music)
and
Every Extend Extra Extreme Euphoria (make it a little better than the XBL version... more like the PSP version)
Cant wait for this though... is Tetsuya Mizuguchi working on this one?

YES! That throws one of the two reasons I still hold on to my 360 right out the window.

I hope it isn't just like the XBLA version, I don't want the game splitting into small chunks that add up to less content than one of the PSP games but add up to a higher price than you'd pay for both.
lantus @ Sep 3rd 2008 1:44PM
Remote Play please!

I was fine with Lumines II because it had sooo many more skins, and the pre-existing ones were redone. I friggin' love this game, and I'm a master at it. Can't wait til it's on the PSN.

Uh, so, this is just Tetris, right? I've heard so many people say Lumines was great, but every review I've read basically just leads me to believe it's a skin on top of Tetris. I got tired of Tetris 20 years ago.
Anyone care to enlighten me?

They aren't even really that similar. This is closer to Doctor Mario, if anything. You always have the same shaped block, 4 squares, but the color combination can vary (I think.. been a while). So you destroy areas by getting a bunch of the same color touching.
However, they only destroy when the refresh bar goes across the screen. So you have some time to build up larger chunks and chain stuff together.
It's still a puzzle game, though. So if you get tired of puzzle games quickly, you'll get tired of this too.
KiraXD @ Sep 3rd 2008 2:45PM
do you like thumping pulasting electronic music?
do you like trippy visuals.
people who enjoy this game typically answer yes to both..
if you dont like either... this game is probably not for you.
Nate @ Sep 3rd 2008 3:38PM
Yeah, these kind of puzzle games aren't my thing. But seems like a lot of other people will be happy with this, so that's good. More variety on the PSN is good for everyone.

Fantastic! I bought the XBL version and every expansion pack on first day of release, and could not be happier with my ROI. Lumines is without a doubt the XBL game I've played most.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Sep 3rd 2008 2:18PM
day one buy for me. i absolutely loved the PSP version and being able to play it in high def on a bigger screen would certainly be a plus (as well as trophies).

FINALLY..... i have had lumines and lumines2 on psp, and when i had a 360 i tried lumines on live, but never bought it because i didnt like how the face buttons were opposite of what they were on psp so i always flipped it the wrong way i wanted, and seemed there was no way to switch that, atleast in the demo.
i have been waiting for this damn game for so long on ps3 i was getting pissed off that q games wasnt releasing it. hopefully this means rez hd (even tho i already have the ps2 version, id get it again for true HD) and id give every extend extra extreme or w/e a chance too if they release it on ps3...
and i say that because i no longer have a 360 or a PSP so i cant play lumines or every extend any more.
Warner Young @ Sep 3rd 2008 3:50PM
If they bring Every Extend Extra Extreme (or some, even better version of it), I'd be excited. Lumines and L2 were fun on the PSP, but this is starting to feel like they're just milking it for the moolah.
Or, if they could add an Audiosurf-like mode, where you can supply your own MP3s and it analyzed them to get the beats, that'd be something.

Finally I have been waiting for this.
