Developer Treyarch has been hard at work getting ready to churn out the next
Call of Duty game, and though this new title is quite a contrast to last year's
CoD4 -- which took the series to modern times -- diehard fans of series can appreciate the return-to-roots WWII setting. Answering the call to arms in
CoD5 Call of Duty: World at War is only a stone throw away as the game will hit retailers this November 11 for the PlayStation 3 and alongside other platforms.

yes!
drdre74 @ Sep 4th 2008 4:55PM
Why are PS3 fans getting the shaft again this year on the beta? I'm not sure about the game going back to WW2. I like my modern day weapons too much to go back in time. I'll pass and wait on Killzone 2 hellyeah!
maxpontiac @ Sep 4th 2008 4:57PM
Nice. I was beginning to wonder when the release date was.
Looks like my COD4 career is coming to end.
I can't wait to see the trophy list.
kevin @ Sep 4th 2008 4:58PM
ill miss you red dot sight :(

I think your article and lack of enthusiasm speaks for the majority. When Infinity Ward releases their next COD i think we can expect a lot more coverage....
Nathanical @ Sep 4th 2008 5:07PM
its not that im expecting this game to be bad, but im not getting it, at least no time soon after release. With Bioshock, Resistance 2, and KZ2 coming out in early 09, ive got more than enough FPS action to keep me busy.
Brett @ Sep 4th 2008 5:15PM
This is honestly the most jammed pack 3months of potentially awesome video game releases I can remember.
I will be busy for awhile and well into January & February when Killzone 2 arrives. Wowee.
Imnotready4me @ Sep 4th 2008 5:30PM
Eh, not too hopeful for this one...Infinity Ward makes the award winning COD games and I have been playing them since the first one. I think this Treyarch take on it will be another disappointment just like the other ones they did. Eh oh well, at least Resistance, Killzone, and LBP are coming out!
Josh K @ Sep 4th 2008 5:48PM
Released on Veteran's Day!
ratedrsuperstar @ Sep 4th 2008 6:02PM
World at War and resistance 2 are my big first day purchases this fall. I'm so glad they went back to WW2. I hated the cod4 sp campaign.
Skunk Ape @ Sep 4th 2008 8:20PM
lolwut? Seriously? CoD4 IMO has one of, if not the best SP campaign mode in any game ever released. To each his own I guess.
will @ Sep 4th 2008 6:18PM
this had better be gorgeous, smooth, and 60fps like CoD4 was.
lantus @ Sep 4th 2008 6:48PM
I can't go back to WWII, I just can't. Pass!
Popfrogs @ Sep 4th 2008 7:21PM
I'm right there with you, the whole genre is just worn out. Should be called Call of Duty: World War 2 Forever Because Treyarch Wouldn't Know Creativity If It Was a 20 Ton Anvil Dropped From A Roof Onto Their Heads. Part 3.
Watcher @ Sep 5th 2008 11:42AM
Agreed!! I got used to and love the modern combat of CoD4. I can't go back either. This game is a "play at a friend's house" title. I'm through with playing WWII era titles. Especially if it's a FPS.
Mike @ Sep 4th 2008 7:10PM
I just wish they would update COD4 with Trophy support. : \
This could be cool, but I also will miss the more modern day weapons and gadgets. However, there is something very Saving Private Ryan about the whole premise... which could make for good times.
JaseH @ Sep 5th 2008 12:42AM
Infinity Ward or GTFO.

In a way, I'm glad I missed COD 1-3. I'll be seeing it with fresh eyes unlike every other person here that is seething with negativity. How many games have any of you played by Treyarch? 1? And besides, this is based off of the COD4 engine so chances, are, it'll be as good if not better than 4.
Sangor @ Sep 5th 2008 4:39AM
No way in hell is this going to be better than COD4.
The only good thing it has going for itself is the COD 4 engine, and that was written by Infinity Ward.
Most if not all Treyarch's past games stink and that includes COD 3.
Bugg @ Sep 5th 2008 9:40AM
you people should stop giving negative comments and be thankful that Treyarch's teams doing this otherwise u wont seeing another modern game in cpl of years,
and ho nos maybe this game might turn up better den COD4
Popfrogs @ Sep 5th 2008 11:03AM
Modern game? We have 3 bleeding edge titles due out in the next 6 months; Killzone2, Resistance2 and (although not on the same level graphics/tech-wise) SOCOM.
Watcher @ Sep 5th 2008 11:49AM
Resistance 2 takes place in the 1960's albeit in an alternate universe. It will have alien tech, but the USA will have tech similar to what it had during that time period (with an experimental gun here and there).
CoD with modern tech or bust!!!
WATTS UK @ Oct 1st 2008 9:41AM
Im willing to give the game a chance and from what i have seen and read i have a sneeky feeling its going to be one killer game.
You see the focus has been on the fact its WWII based with weapons from that era but what everyone is overlooking is what made COD4 great.
The gane engine, Ranking, Perks, leaderboards etc etc, and all of this WILL be included in COD5!
This will be COD4 with older weapons (man that flamethrower looks awesome) and locations.
Oh and add to this you can operate vehicles in multiplayer battles and it adds a little variety, enough to warrant a good play through (online & offline) until COD6 is released next year. ;)
