Transfer all but three songs from Rock Band to RB2 for $5
Quite some time back, Harmonix announced that gamers would be able to import Rock Band tracks, save it on a hard-disk drive, and play these tracks in Rock Band 2 without having to get up and swap discs. Now, Harmonix is giving us the full details on this service.
Wannabe rockstars can transfer 55 of the original 58 on-disc tracks from Rock Band onto Rock Band 2. The missing three songs are: "Enter Sandman" by Metallica, "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath (cover), and "Run to the Hills" by Iron Maiden (cover) with an additional DLC track, "Monsoon" by Tokio Hotel (a DLC song from the European disc). The service isn't free, however; gamers will be expected to fork over $5 for the reallocation of tunes.
Note: As of writing, the PS3 version of Rock Band does not have the export tool yet.

so...
1) why do we have to pay for this, and
2) why can't we transfer those three songs?! they just happen to be three of my favourite :( can harmonix make them a free download?
dartmerc @ Sep 4th 2008 7:50PM
We have to pay because the owners of the songs need royalties (and I guess no deal could be struck with those three). It's a good deal, don't wine about it or you'll sound stupid.

1)have to grant the lisence for the songs again
2)those 3 songs didnt want to grant the permission
3)no they can not..

I wonder if the Rock Band 1 downloaded tunes are included for $5...

Bought rock band songs are playable in rockband 2 without the need of playing the 5 dollars.

is it just me.. or is rockband/guitar hero hype really dying? new songs are cool and all... but why buy a completely new game for full price.. then pay to keep the tracks you already paid for to begin with?
starting to lose interest in these games. they shoulda just made it as an expansion pack for 19.99 or 29.99
and sell the new drums seperately.

its not only new songs coming out, there is new modes like bass career mode, online world tour, daily battles that harmonix will plan out, new look. improved lag and trophy support.

I'm sure that you're paying $5 to simply rip the Rock Band song files off of the disc and save it to your hard drive. The DLC song files were saved to your hard drive when you bought them originally. Most likely the RB2 disc will automatically detect any songs saved on the hard drive in addition to those on the disc (just like RB1 did with DLC).
Everyone agree??

thats the process. yes.
jeremybennett23 @ Sep 4th 2008 8:40PM
My guess is that these three are not moving over because they're parts of full albums to be released down the road.
Alex @ Sep 4th 2008 10:15PM
You don't have to pay anything because the service is not available to PS3 users so stop worryinng about the three songs as well. :-( LOL

Don't worry, I have assurances from a Harmonix employee this feature will be completed by the PS3 release of RB2, which I believe is still October 19. Like many people I've preordered the full set and am selling the RB1 drumset to a friend who was too cheap to buy it new.

UGGGG...
Those are 3 of my ABSOLUTE favorites!
