Side-scrolling shooter Soldner-X headed to PSN this October
Download to PSP
We haven't heard from Soldner-X: Himmelsstürmer since last year, but now developer SideQuest Studios is letting us know the horizontally-scrolling shooter is on its way to the PLAYSTATION Network this October. Soldner-X puts you in the shoes of "an anti-hero mercenary and bounty hunter" who must save the Earth from an infection that spreads to both organic lifeforms and technology in "a mighty prototype star fighter." Other than the anti-hero part, it sounds like a cliché plot that gives a lone ship an excuse to take on hordes and hordes of alien enemies.
Soldner-X is an updated version of a 2007 PC title, with improvements such as enhanced graphics, 1080p resolution, new music tracks, easier default difficulty, Dual Shock 3 support, optional SIXAXIS support, and of course, everyone's favorite, trophy support! Check out the trailer above and the screenshot gallery below.

WICKED.

The PC version must have been really hard, because this looks difficult but fun.

Hey, this game may actually be pretty good.....And with a dev. team name like SideQuest Studios, how can you resist?
Also, Jase.H, if your reading this, I weren't picking a fight with you, I didn't think my comment suggested that either =P

No worries.
And it's JaseH, not Jase.H :P

Just when I thought it was a slow day for PS3 news, this is a refreshing addition!

Finally - A side scroller to buy on the PSN. Love it. I like games like this that are simply pick up and go. Love arcade style games - it also seems to be working on the XBLA :)
Vohaul79 @ Sep 8th 2008 11:53AM
Gradius 2008.
Nate @ Sep 8th 2008 11:57AM
Hell yeah! Awesome. And Co-op! Fantastic!
visuatrox @ Sep 8th 2008 12:06PM
Wohoo SOLD! While PSN has a bunch of arena shooters, it completely lacks the traditional Horisontal and vertical scrolling ones.
stuart @ Sep 8th 2008 12:03PM
well just hope its a reasonable difficulity level because i fancied a side scrolling shooter so i downloaded rtypes and thats just ridiculous i cant get past the first level.Hope theres a demo so i dont waste my money again.
matt @ Sep 8th 2008 12:04PM
Awesome, I wondered what happened to this.
Anyone know what the trophy's are like?
Waqman @ Sep 8th 2008 12:07PM
I'm not really into games like this (side scrolling space shooters). But the music sounds pretty good.
Morphine @ Sep 8th 2008 12:08PM
Another must buy :P
Torgo @ Sep 8th 2008 12:08PM
Unfortunately, the PC version had a lot of gameplay issues. I hope that the extra time they took on the PS3 version fixed at least most of those issues.
Devin @ Sep 8th 2008 12:14PM
Looks decent. Trophy support is a must, so that's good. I hope it doesn't cost too much. I wonder what's taken them so long to make the game?
azhyen @ Sep 8th 2008 12:18PM
seems good, hey does anyone know where i may pickup a disc base version of eihnheinder (sp check)? i love that side scroller so much since i played the DEMO on the ps1 demo disc WAY back in the day
Torgo @ Sep 8th 2008 12:33PM
Good luck with that. I was lucky enough to find the disc at a small shop for $25, which is a STEAL. Einhander easily goes for $50 on average.
EBay and Craigslist, or a small indie shop are your best bet.
krztov @ Sep 8th 2008 12:42PM
probably ebay, its Einhander. i converted it to run on my psp recently, forgot how awesome it was.

Im getting the impression that this has a good chance of remaining exclusive to PSN, considering it went straight from a PC install base to PS3....but then again, almost all of the 'exclusive' titles on Xbox 360 are now on, coming to, or planned for PS ports.
Damnit, this generation of gaming is showing signs of getting out of control. I want the good 'ol days.

I have this game for PC, but I didn't like it because it felt "slow" and "heavy", and I don't mean lag.
I didn't hate the game, but I couldn't get into it like other shooters I like (Gradius, Dodonpachi, Ray series and some R-Types)
RedSlime @ Sep 8th 2008 4:09PM
Thank you for not calling it a shump in your post. It pains me when dumbasses call shooters that horrible, horrible name.
Looks great too, looking forward to it!
Markus H. @ Sep 8th 2008 4:07PM
The reason I was interesting in the development of this game was because of the music.

Me Like
You gotta love German trailers, they make content look like the biggest thing in history
stargateheaven @ Sep 9th 2008 7:23AM
I want GRADIUS though.. :(
and "come on. show me what you've got" and "don't give up yet!" sound really familiar.. aren't they in street fighter??
